Book 8 in the Captain Lacey Regency Mysteries 1818: As Captain Gabriel Lacey prepares for his upcoming wedding, his former neighbor, Marianne Simmons, asks for his help to find an actress friend who’s gone missing. Lacey agrees to help look for the actress, little realizing that the search will pit him against men who think nothing of abduction, assault, or sending incendiary devices to the innocent. At the same time, Lacey’s personal life is changing, and his time for investigation is frequently and frustratingly interrupted. He is also commanded by a new Bow Street Runner to assist in bringing down James Denis, a criminal with whom Lacey now has complicated ties. Lacey must help or else risk hanging alongside Denis. The search for the actress takes Lacey from elegant assembly rooms to the backstage of the Theatre Royal in Drury Lane, where he finds darkness in all corners. Lacey’s life and honor are constantly challenged as he tries to settle into his new life, until he realizes he can follow no code but his own.

Reggie Rainbow has found the perfect profession for someone who likes to keep himself to himself: it's his job to make sure that some things stay out of sight and out of mind. Reggie Rainbow is an angry young man who treads the backstage corridors of down-at-heel theatres for a living. Childhood polio has left him with a limp, but his strong arms and nimble fingers are put to perfect use behind the scenes, helping the illusionist Mr Brookes to 'disappear' a series of glamorous assistants twice nightly. But in 1953, bookings for magic acts are scarce, even in London. So when Mr Brookes is unexpectedly offered a slot at the Brighton Grand, Reggie finds himself back out on the road and living in a strange new town. The sea air begins to work its own peculiar kind of magic, and, as the bunting goes up in the streets outside the theatre for the Grand's forthcoming Coronation spectacular, Reggie begins to wonder just how much of his own life is an act – and what might have happened to somebody who disappeared from that life long ago. Set in the tarnished world of 1950s Variety, The Disappearance Boy is a masterful and dark tale of love lost and found; of blood, sweat – and all the other secrets that are kept hidden away behind those red velvet curtains.

Clinical Aspects Of Inner Ear Deafness

The work on clinical aspects of inner ear deafness started out in 1983/1984 as a general review conceived by the Deutsche Gesellschaft fUr Hals-Nasen-Ohren-Heilkunde, Kopf-und Hals-Chirurgie (German Society for Oto-Rhino-Laryngology and Head and Neck Surgery) under the presidency of Professor Harald Feldmann, Munster. My task was to sift through the literature available at that time, to record the current status of knowledge, and if appropriate to describe existing new tendencies and potential developments. It was a conscious decision that the subject matter should extend to the entire field of inner ear deafness, though without reproducing too much of the detail given in the reviews already available, such as those by Vosteen (1961) on the biology of the inner ear, Beckmann (1962) on deafness in children, and Lehnhardt (1965) on industrial otopathies. The text contains only brief references to these, followed by more detailed expositions of what has come to light in the interim. In keeping with the broadness of the topic the list of references is extremely long, though we are aware that it is still not absolutely comprehensive. It is intended to give readers interested in specific topics an idea of the literature available and to provide a point of departure for further work. Scientific research is progressing and news insights appearing so fast, however, that the topicality of the material will be limited.

A public gallery is now open for your reading pleasure; a world of the strange, the macabre and the bizarre! *********************************************** Review by Hayley Sale of My Love of Reading on May 9, 2011: "This book is fantastic, With 25 Stories I just found it great, I cannot wait until I can get a paperback copy as this is the type of book that you can read over and over again! And is handy to carry with you at all times as you will want to pick it up as often as you can!! I spent hours sat reading story after story and then snuck stories in between doing jobs!! I just love Tom's unique writing style and the Preface at the beginning of the book is almost like a story in itself. Tom has an incredible imagination and the way he conveys it to paper is just truely captivating. I could spend hours waffling on about each story but I feel that I would spoil too much for you - the reader. And I can't pick a favourite story either as it too close to call, Fear of Needles however had me gripped and I had to read it all in one go!! The stories in this book really get your mind going and no matter what your age make you want to ensure your feet are tucked inside your duvet and think about what it is that goes bump in the night!!! I must say that I'm very upset at not being one of those lucky co-workers that received emails baring the words 'Hello All'" ************************************************ Review by Kipp Poe Speicher on April 2, 2010: A unique Voice that needs to be heard! This book is an amazing read filled with stories that will have you fearing the unknown and the dark once more. Wrote in a voice that reminds me of the great lush movies of Vincent Price based on the works like Poe. Some of the short stories even intertwine with each other

Bauer's debut novel combines an appealing private detective with a memorable cast of supporting characters in an intriguing mystery thriller that explores closure and the lengths to which three people go for pure greed, fame and revenge. Matt Grieve is the resident detective of a prestigious urban law firm. Whip-smart and quietly sophisticated, he's a six foot five likeable tough guy with cop instincts and a painter's eye for detail. 'A perfect blend of literature, mystery and love . . . and side-splitting humour' Lucy Robinson, author of The Greatest Love Story of All Time Atticus Craftsman never travels without a supply of Earl Grey and a favourite book. So when he is sent to shut down a failing literary magazine in Madrid, he packs both. A short Spanish jaunt later, he’ll be back in Kent, cup of tea and smoked-salmon sandwich in hand. But the five ladies who run the magazine have other ideas. They’ll do anything to keep the jobs they love - even if it involves hoodwinking Atticus with flashing eyes, the ghosts of literature past and a winding journey into the heart of Andalucía. With not the most efficient of detectives in pursuit, it’s only a matter of time before Atticus Craftsman either falls in love, disappears completely or – worst of all – runs out of Earl Grey. Crime comedy, love story and literary adventure all at once, The Altogether Unexpected Disappearance of Atticus Craftsman is fiendishly fun and delightfully different. 'A delightfully funny literary adventure' Choice Magazine 'What a fabulous read! Written with verve and wit' Frances Mayes, author of bestselling Under the Tuscan Sun
