The book examines a period when football underwent a seismic and ineradicable change brought about by the determination of the Victorian Football League to wrest control of the game's development and destiny from the various state controlling bodies and the Australian Football Council. Whereas the VFL had initially been the first among equals, it gradually assumed the role of the sole and undisputed guardian of the code. The AFC, once football's ostensible national controlling body, became an irrelevance. Instead of a national sport with a national remit we ended up with an expanded VFL with a majority of Victorian member clubs supplemented by a token sprinkling of teams from interstate. Such teams were in most cases created from scratch and could in no way be said to derive directly from the states? unique and distinctive football traditions and culture. For some, it was a brave new world, but evolution does not inevitably entail improvement.

*So Wrong 2 has been shortlisted for the KOALA, YABBA and CROC Awards for 2019* Following on from the success of So Wrong, Michael Wagner and Wayne Bryant have put together book 2 in the series, and crammed it full of more: - short stories - satirical advertisements - highly suspect 'life advice' - hilarious cartoons and other visual delights - and laughs on every page. As two former reluctant readers themselves, Michael and Wayne are creating the series they wish had existed when they were kids, the series that would have hooked them onto reading. It's a hyperactive, but good-natured blend of Mad magazine, Andy Griffiths and Roald Dahl. It's also a little wrong, but so right for young readers, especially those who haven't quite fallen in love with books. Yet.

The past six decades have seen astonishing changes in the construction of sexuality as an apparatus of knowledge, and as a lived experience. Australia—like much of the West—has undergone a veritable sexual revolution in attitudes and behavior. From early sex therapy to gay marriage, the juggernaut of late modern sexuality has significantly remade Australian social and cultural life. This collection brings together the work of leading historians of sexuality, to consider sixty years of remarkable sexual and social change. Acts of Love and Lust explores the ways both heterosexuality and homosexuality were constructed—by the state, through sex education, in medicine, by the law, political activists, and in the hands of the media. Just as importantly, contributors consider the ways sexuality was experienced, not as a monolithic or imposed institution, but how it was explored and enjoyed by individual bodies across different times and spaces. The authors examine the pleasures and pains of living in sexual bodies, and explore the manifest ways that love and lust shaped Australia’s society and culture.
