This book addresses the fact that time-poor parents may push their bright children to achieve academically but often pay little attention to their social skills, with the result that when these children reach their teens and are making decisions on their own about complex adult issues such as sexual activity, drugs and alcohol etc, they will lack the maturity or life experience to negotiate such issues effectively and may get hurt and damaged along the way. This insightful and practical book is aimed at parents of preteens who have bright, risk-taking, independent children who are hard to rein in. It will help parents to identify and handle areas of concern before they become problems. Chapters cover risks, communication and support, boundary setting, saying 'no', self esteem and the art of 'being happy', preparing your child to negotiate the key issues faced in adolescence, encouraging personal responsibility and much more.

This book is basically a collection of poems on various subjects. This is not classic poetry. I frankly started out one night to write something in basic essay/paragraph format and while I had a lot going through my mind, I ended up jotting down a few notes, then at some point, I found that I was stringing those notes together, putting them in basic rhyme and my first writing turned into what I suppose can be considered a poem "For the People." I found this an interesting and convenient way to express thoughts on a variety of issues and from there, many followed; mainly that year and some more the following years. I don't know whether anyone will find interest in what I have written here. And, if so, I don't really know who. There are no real secrets or wisdom in this book; but, hopefully, some will enjoy it. The great majority of this book was written in 1993. I had gotten out of the Navy where I had been enlisted from Oct 1977 - Oct 1992. For the year 1993, I was basically able to take a year off without working. This material was only recently copyrighted, and none of it has been made public before now.

When Ashlar learns that another Taltos has been seen, he is suddenly propelled into the haunting world of the Mayfair family, the New Orleans dynasty of witches forever besieged by ghosts, spirits, and their own dizzying powers. For Ashlar knows this powerful clan is intimately linked to the heritage of the Taltos. In a swirling universe filled with death and life, corruption and innocence, this mesmerizing novel takes us on a wondrous journey back through the centuries to a civilization half-human, of wholly mysterious origin, at odds with mortality and immortality, justice and guilt. It is an enchanted, hypnotic world that could only come from the imagination of Anne Rice . . . Praise for Taltos “Taltos is the third book in a series known as the lives of the Mayfair witches. . .Their haunted heritage has brought the family great wealth, which is exercised from a New Orleans manse with Southern gentility; but of course such power cannot escape notice . . . or challenge . . . Rice is a formidable talent. . . . [Taltos]is a curious amalgam of gothic, glamour fiction, alternate history, and high soap opera.”—The Washington Post Book World “Anne Rice will live on through the ages of literature.”—San Francisco Chronicle “An intricate, stunning imagination.”—Los Angeles Times Book Review “Spellbinding . . . mythical . . . Anne Rice is a pure storyteller.”—Cosmopolitan “Beautifully written.”—Kirkus Reivews (starred review) “Her power of invention seems boundless. . . . She has made a masterpiece of the morbid, worthy of Poe's daughter. . . . It is hard to praise sufficiently the originality of Miss Rice.”—The Wall Street Journal

Overwhelming stresses in life can sometimes lead you to the point of walking away from your faith, especially when it appears that those who don’t trust God are prospering. In this discussion of Psalm 73, Bill Crowder examines Asaph’s story of pain, tears, loss, and disappointment. Encouraging you to focus on the condition of your heart rather than the perception of your eyes, It’s Not Fair shows how you can restore your confidence in God and trust Him by focusing on His goodness rather than your circumstances.

Experience the internet's most talked-about book, now a major motion picture, from Anna Todd, the writer Cosmopolitan called “the biggest literary phenomenon of her generation.” There was the time before Tessa met Hardin, and then there’s everything AFTER... Life will never be the same. #Hessa Tessa is a good girl with a sweet, reliable boyfriend back home. She’s got direction, ambition, and a mother who’s intent on keeping her that way. But she’s barely moved into her freshman dorm when she runs into Hardin. With his tousled brown hair, cocky British accent, and tattoos, Hardin is cute and different from what she’s used to. But he’s also rude—to the point of cruelty, even. For all his attitude, Tessa should hate Hardin. And she does—until she finds herself alone with him in his room. Something about his dark mood grabs her, and when they kiss it ignites within her a passion she’s never known before. He'll call her beautiful, then insist he isn’t the one for her and disappear again and again. Despite the reckless way he treats her, Tessa is compelled to dig deeper and find the real Hardin beneath all his lies. He pushes her away again and again, yet every time she pushes back, he only pulls her in deeper. Tessa already has the perfect boyfriend. So why is she trying so hard to overcome her own hurt pride and Hardin's prejudice about nice girls like her? Unless...could this be love?
