The volume consists of twenty-five chapters selected from among peer-reviewed papers presented at the CELDA (Cognition and Exploratory Learning in the Digital Age) 2013 Conference held in Fort Worth, Texas, USA, in October 2013 and also from world class scholars in e-learning systems, environments and approaches. The following sub-topics are included: Exploratory Learning Technologies (Part I), e-Learning social web design (Part II), Learner communities through e-Learning implementations (Part III), Collaborative and student-centered e-Learning design (Part IV). E-Learning has been, since its initial stages, a synonym for flexibility. While this dynamic nature has mainly been associated with time and space it is safe to argue that currently it embraces other aspects such as the learners’ profile, the scope of subjects that can be taught electronically and the technology it employs. New technologies also widen the range of activities and skills developed in e-Learning. Electronic learning environments have evolved past the exclusive delivery of knowledge. Technology has endowed e-Learning with the possibility of remotely fomenting problem solving skills, critical thinking and team work, by investing in information exchange, collaboration, personalisation and community building.

The international conference will provide a forum for engineers, scientist, teachers and all researchers to discuss their latest research achievements and their future research plan. The main role of the proceeding is to be used as an exchange pillar for researchers who are working in the mentioned field. In order to meet high standard of Springer ́s Advances in Intelligent and Soft Computing ,the organization committee has made their efforts to do the following things. Firstly, poor quality paper has been refused after reviewing course by anonymous referee experts. Secondly, periodically review meetings have been held around the reviewers about five times for exchanging reviewing suggestions. Finally, the conference organization had several preliminary sessions before the conference. Through efforts of different people and departments, the conference will be successful and fruitful. We hope that you can get much more knowledges from our CSISE2011, and we also hope that you can give us good suggestions to improve our work in the future.

Multi-Modal User Interactions in Controlled Environments investigates the capture and analysis of user’s multimodal behavior (mainly eye gaze, eye fixation, eye blink and body movements) within a real controlled environment (controlled-supermarket, personal environment) in order to adapt the response of the computer/environment to the user. Such data is captured using non-intrusive sensors (for example, cameras in the stands of a supermarket) installed in the environment. This multi-modal video based behavioral data will be analyzed to infer user intentions while assisting users in their day-to-day tasks by adapting the system’s response to their requirements seamlessly. This book also focuses on the presentation of information to the user. Multi-Modal User Interactions in Controlled Environments is designed for professionals in industry, including professionals in the domains of security and interactive web television. This book is also suitable for graduate-level students in computer science and electrical engineering.

This book constitutes the proceedings of the 12th International Conference on Transport Systems Telematics, TST 2012, held in Katowice-Ustron, Poland, in October 2012. The 48 papers included in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected for inclusion in this book. Transport telematics are the systems using the information and communication technologies in the area of infrastructure and of means of transport and its participants. An intelligent transport covers systems that allow, through the data transmission and analysis, to influence the behaviour of road users and the action of technical elements in means of transport or along the traffic route. Intelligent transport systems - in accordance with the European Directive - are used for the transport management informatisation. The research shows that the use of telematics can significantly increase the efficiency of the transport system, the road safety and the environmental protection. This book provides an overview of solutions being developed in the field of intelligent transportation systems, and includes theoretical and case studies in the countries of conference participants.

Analyzing Video Sequences Of Multiple Humans

Author : Jun Ohya
ISBN : 1402070217

File Size : 69.59 MB
Format : PDF, Kindle

This book is an excellent reference for both professional and academic researchers in the fields of computer vision and image processing. It will also be of interest to those working in video surveillance and monitoring, virtual reality, computer graphics, pattern recognition, telecommunication, human-computer interface, and general computer science. Analyzing Video Sequences of Multiple Humans: Tracking, Posture Estimation and Behavior Recognition describes some computer vision-based methods that analyze video sequences of humans. More specifically, methods for tracking multiple humans in a scene, estimating postures of a human body in 3D in real-time, and recognizing a person's behavior (gestures or activities) are discussed. For the tracking algorithm, the authors developed a non-synchronous method that tracks multiple persons by exploiting a Kalman filter that is applied to multiple video sequences. For estimating postures, an algorithm is presented that locates the significant points which determine postures of a human body, in 3D in real-time. Human activities are recognized from a video sequence by the HMM (Hidden Markov Models)-based method that the authors pioneered. The effectiveness of the three methods is shown by experimental results. The posture estimation method described in this book is a world-leading method in that it can estimate postures in 3D in real-time. As described in this book, the posture estimation method can be applied to avatar-based telecommunication systems, which require realistic, real-time reproduction of human images. This book is also suitable for use in graduate classes in computer vision or image processing.
