Organisations continue to struggle with their strategies; even when they have a strategy development process, their plans rarely have the impact that was intended. Too many of their people don't know about the strategy, don't understand it or can't translate it into what it means for their role. Validating Strategies addresses the taxonomy, syntax and semantics of strategies; in other words: what does the strategy say, how does it relate to other plans, what are the causalities between the strategy and successful business outcomes and how should this all be expressed in a language that everyone in the organization can understand. The model at the heart of this book - Organisations run Projects that produce Results and enable people to Use them to create Benefits (PRUB) - offers an intuitive approach that links collaborative strategic planning and validation to project and programme management so as to create, validate and implement strategies. The strategy development and validation model offered by Phil Driver addresses the struggle of organisations to realise their strategy, replacing endless projects that don't quite seem to deliver what the organization needs with an easy-to-understand, implementable methodology that can be validated with evidence.

Seminar paper from the year 2017 in the subject Business economics - Marketing, Corporate Communication, CRM, Market Research, Social Media, grade: 1,7, Linneaus University (School of Business and Economics), course: E-Business Management, language: English, abstract: Social media (SM) strategies have gained major importance for the retailers in the last decade. The effective use of SM channels for marketing purposes leads to valuable information and insights about markets. However, many managers still fail to understand the importance of the possibilities of SM usage for strengthening brand perception. This might be due to the lack of commonly agreed SM success factors in academic research. The purpose of this paper is to discuss SM success factors and to evaluate how the two world leading sports brands NIKE and adidas follow the application of the discussed success factors. Based on a literature review, the authors summarized the most commonly discussed SM success factors. Data collection was conducted in a consecutive, two step approach, first extracting relevant data from the annual reports, and then withdrawing data from the companies SM channels through text mining. The data was then analysed according to the success factors summarized from academic literature. Also NIKE’s and adidas’ accomplishments in achieving their goals set in the annual reports on SM were examined. adidas achieves a higher success rate than NIKE in laying out their SM strategy. Both adidas and NIKE cannot entirely live up to their ambitions, underperforming on SM in practice.

Large-scale, complex systems like the health sector or transport are a challenge to manage; traditional strategic approaches often fail due to the diversity of different stakeholders and the lack of a cohesive strategy language that all within it can understand. What is needed in such systems is a new, fresh, scalable, "open source" framework: one that is "editable" by those at all levels within the organisation. This book provides practitioners and managers within any organisation with a 9-stage modular toolkit for all strategic steps. Utilising Phil Driver's PRUB framework, which innovatively centres on end-user actions instead of benefits - what do you want to do? - it enables all stakeholders from entry level to executive to actively participate in strategy validation and implementation. This book will enable practitioners with skills in any one of the 9 stages to enhance their skills in that stage but also, most importantly, to link their work in any one stage with all the other stages. The book will also help senior executives to coordinate the full 9-stage sequence in large-scale and complex environments. Following on from Phil Driver's groundbreaking Validating Strategies, this book covers all 9 stages of strategy, from end-user engagement through to post-implementation review. It will prove game-changing reading for any manager, executive or practitioner that needs a more effective strategic approach, manages a large or complex system in the public sector, or wants to enable and empower talent at all levels of their organisation.

Self Validating Optimum Currency Areas

"A currency area can be a self-validating optimal policy regime, even when monetary unification does not foster real economic integration and intra-industry trade. In our model, firms choose the optimal degree of exchange rate pass-through to export prices while accounting for expected monetary policies, and monetary authorities choose optimal policy rules while taking firms' pass-through as given. We show that there exist two equilibria, each of which defines a self-validating currency regime. In the first, firms preset prices in domestic currency and let prices in foreign currency be determined by the law of one price. Optimal policy rules then target the domestic output gap, and floating exchange rates support the flex-price allocation. In the second equilibrium, firms preset prices in consumer currency, and a monetary union is the optimal policy choice for all countries. Although a common currency helps synchronize business cycles across countries, flexible exchange rates deliver a superior welfare outcome"--Federal Reserve Bank of New York web site.
