"Twelve Tingly Tales" is a mixture of fact and fiction. "Handyman," "John," "The Scientific Man," "Snake," "Toy Boy," and "Tough Guy," are complete works of the author's imagination. "Noises," however, is a story from his youth - one that was related to Hoskins by his parents when he was in his mid-twenties. Craig's father told him that his older brother and he slept through the ghostly brawl, and that he didn't get really scared until their mother turned on their bedroom light and there was no one in our kitchen. Craig's aunt related stories from her childhood upon which he based "Fearstruck," and "Katie." Essentially, they are as she told them and did really happen. Likewise, "Jason," and "Toto," were based upon truth. Hoskins' family did have two wonderful Labs with those names, and Jason did die suddenly after turning so sweet and attentive his last week. Toto did chase away a dog who threatened his Kelly. "Weeping Lady" is based upon a Mexican ghost story. Craig embellished the story with his American characters, but the essence of the story is the same. Read and enjoy... and think. Many times the truth is much stranger than fiction and much harder to believe.

Twelve O’Clock Tales is the fourth collection of short fiction by legendary novelist and memoirist, Felice Picano (The Lure, Like People in History, True Stories). A personal homage to the storytellers of his youth, Edgar Allen Poe, E.F. Benson, and H. P. Lovecraft, as well as his acquaintances, Arthur C. Clarke and Harlan Ellison. Thirteen dark tales, eerie, bizarre, and dreamlike, the tales will thrill and disturb, discomfort and titillate, enthrall and leave you wondering. Picano ranges across time and space, from tribal West Africa to the American heartland, to a lab in Venezuela, and a California Highway fifteen years from now. His characters range from a teen accident survivor with a secret, to a far-future scholar forced to travel to a galactic backwater, to a retired L.A. cop who dabbles in astrology, and a peasant girl in B.C.E. Israel encountering the strangest of strangers. The thirteen tales include brand new stories and acknowledged Picano masterworks collected here for the first time.

Follow the seasons of commercial fisherfolk in the world's most dangerous seas, sail the Inside Passage, or flight-see with bush pilots famed for high-stakes navigation around Denali, North America's highest mountain. Discover the 49th state’s quirky side, including an entire town that lives in a single World War II-vintage high-rise, a "Hairy Man" who roams the Bush, and backcountry gourmands who communicate with edible plants. Drive the Alaska Highway or head north along the pipeline Haul Road to the Arctic coast, not simply to get there, but to be there. Get the inside view as Alaskans share their stories of learning a new land or guiding tourists through Native culture. Whether you choose camping at Wal-Mart or casting for grayling on a lake named Paradise, whether you travel the Great Land in actuality or in your armchair, these stories bring Alaska alive, in all its latter-day complexity and glory.

12 Tales Of The Supernatural

Format : PDF, ePub, Docs

From the shadowy appearances of a preying mantis to the eerie phenomenon of disembodied footsteps, these tales of the supernatural portray ordinary men and women confronted by mysteries that are beyond both nature and reason, suggesting that the fabric of our lives is but a thin and fragile bridge across an abyss, out of which, at any moment, can come the thing we fear most. The supernatural genre has a strong appeal which shows no sign of waning. This collection beginning with J. S.Le Fanu, and including Mrs Riddell, W. W. Jacobs, and A. N. L. Munby, features tales of the supernatural set not only in traditional mists and shadows, but also in modern bungalows, railway carriages, and well-lit city streets. Featuring a combination of both familiar and rare stories, this is an anthology which will appeal to both the newcomer and the aficianado of the genre.
