In this new edition of The Transpersonal, John Rowan takes account of the growing interest in spirituality, assessing the many new developments in the field and providing an essential overview of the multitude of guides now available on the subject. By providing a clear and highly readable introduction to the realm of the transpersonal, this book eliminates many of the misunderstandings that plague this area. It relates the transpersonal to everyday life as well as to professional concerns and the various schools of therapy. Divided into three parts, Being, Doing and Knowing, it encourages the reader to explore the levels of consciousness, the techniques involved in transpersonal work and the underlying theory. The unique relationship between the therapist and client is examined in detail, as are the imagined and imaginal world, personal mythology and transcultural work. An entirely new section is included on the ways in which the transpersonal therapist can use the concept of subpersonalities. This fully updated and revised version of John Rowan's original pioneering text provides a highly practical guide which will be useful to anyone working with the growing number of people with spiritual concerns.

Demonstrates the dramatic results of blending the traditional with the transpersonal approach to psychoanalysis. "A simple, clear, easily understood book with lots of clinical examples, written in an open, self-revealing style, which serves as a good introduction to the field". -- Roger Walsh, M.D., Ph.D., author of The Spirit of Shamanism and coeditor of Paths Beyond Ego: The Transpersonal Vision In this book, Seymour Boorstein builds upon his classical training as a psychiatrist to show the dramatic results of blending the traditional with the transpersonal approach to psychotherapy. By providing case studies from his own practice that cover the spectrum of traditional psychological categories, he demonstrates the vast possibilities and some of the pitfalls inherent in joining psychotherapy and spirituality and also gives the reader a glimpse into the psychiatrist's mental processes as he considers patients' dilemmas and seeks to help them find solutions. The specific techniques Boorstein describes serve as guideposts for other psychotherapists and clinicians, for laypeople interested in psychological healing, and for spiritual leaders and seekers. Boorstein's message to mental-health practitioners is clear: Transpersonal therapists should make use of the valuable traditional techniques that have proved useful, and traditional therapists should explore the enormous impact spiritual issues have on our lives. "Dr. Boorstein has developed a simple yet elegant approach to transpersonal psychotherapy....He develops an understandable transpersonal intervention criteria using Vipassana meditation, Buddhist theory, and A Course in Miracles". -- Michael S. Hutton, Institute ofTranspersonal Psychology

Towards A Theory Of Transpersonal Decision Making In Human Systems

Decision-Making gets significant coverage in the business press and as an academic topic in business schools. However, there is a dearth of information on the transpersonal consideration on decision-making and how it effects leaders and leadership in human-systems. Maximizing positive results in human-systems, requires the decision-maker to maintain a constant consideration of both local and non-local elements impacting and being impacted by the decision(s) being made. This book introduces the concept of "Scope of Decision" as a way of arriving at higher quality decisions by considering them from a greater distance from the decision-maker in the time-space continuum. The author designed and used a unique exemplar modeling paradigm to conduct the research, using the proven methodologies of phenomenography and neurolinguistic modeling. This study presented in this book attempts to offer some insight on the transpersonal process of "intentionality" in decision-making, specifically as it applies to making high-quality decisions in human-systems. As stated in the title this study was not intended to be exhaustive, but rather to open new pathways of consideration and knowing in regard to the topic of decision-making. The conclusions arrived at read like a compass pointing to the means for dramatically improving your decision-making, and are best described in the sometimes hauntingly poetic language of the participants as they explore and discover their own processes for what goes into making exquisite decisions.
