We all know that the financial crisis of 2008 came dangerously close to pushing the United States and the world into a depression rivaling that of the 1930s. But what is astonishing—and should make us not just afraid but very afraid—are the shenanigans of the biggest banks since the crisis. Bob Ivry passionately, eloquently, and convincingly details the operatic ineptitude of America's best-compensated executives and the ways the government kowtows to what it mistakenly imagines is their competence and success. Ivry shows that the only thing that has changed since the meltdown is how too-big-to-fail banks and their fellow travelers in Washington have nudged us ever closer to an even bigger economic calamity. Informed by deep reporting from New York, Washington, and the heartland, The Seven Sins of Wall Street, like no other book, shows how we're all affected by the financial industry's inhumanity. The transgressions of “Wall Street titans” and “masters of the universe” are paid for by real people. In fierce, plain English, Ivry indicts a financial industry that continues to work for the few at the expense of the rest of us. Problems that financiers deemed too complicated to be understood by ordinary folks are shown by Ivry to be financial legerdemain—a smokescreen of complexity and jargon that hide the bankers' nefarious activities. The Seven Sins of Wall Street is irreverent and timely, an infuriating black comedy. The Great Depression of the 1930s moved the American political system to real reform that kept the finance industry in check. With millions so deeply affected since the crisis of 2008, you'll finish this book asking yourself how it is that so many of the nation's leading financial institutions remain such exasperating problem children.

From Wall Street to Main Street, the moral toxicity in our country is alarming. There are frightening signs that America is on the same path to destruction as the Roman Empire was before its fall. Since America has embraced secular progressivism and redefined its traditional spiritual values, our nation has greatly declined. History points to the judgment of God that came upon nations for their moral toxicity. Unless America repents, returns to God, reorders its priorities, and sets its financial house in order, future generations will ask, Why has the mighty fallen? America needs to heed Abraham Lincoln, who said, America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedom, it will be because we destroyed ourselves from within. From Wall Street to Main Street is a trumpet blast not only to alert Americans to our spiritual and moral decline but also to encourage our citizens to save this great republic. Our struggle is not merely social, economic, and political--it is spiritual. There is hope, and this hope is in the struggle to make God, justice, and morality central in our nation once again.

Money has great power in our lives. Used wisely, it is one key to accomplishing our goals, providing for our needs, and fulfilling our life purpose. In recent years, many of us ignored the wisdom of the past when it came to managing and spending our money. Credit card debt soared, savings rates plummeted, and our home equity became something to be tapped into and spent rather than a source of security in retirement. We felt an insatiable desire for more. And we found ourselves spending tomorrow’s money today in order to have what we hoped would satisfy. The result of all of this was not greater happiness and satisfaction, but greater stress and anxiety. Enough is an invitation to rediscover the Bible’s wisdom when it comes to prudent financial practices. In these pages are found the keys to experiencing contentment, overcoming fear, and discovering joy through simplicity and generosity. This book could change your life, by changing your relationship with money. “We Americans love our stuff. We’re living in a fast-paced, me-first, instant-gratification world, and it’s finally catching up to us. Debt is out of control, homes are in foreclosure ... even banks are going out of business. What the world needs today is the message of contentment and simplicity, and that’s exactly what Pastor Adam Hamilton delivers in Enough.” Dave Ramsey, New York Times Best-Selling Author and Nationally Syndicated Radio Talk Show Host “Once again, Adam Hamilton is leading the church; ‘Enough is enough’ was once a Wesleyan watchword. Adam breathes new life into the Wesleyan commitment to simplicity. Amid a culture of greed and conspicuous consumption Adam calls us to a biblically based, evangelical joy of having the faith to say ‘enough is enough.’” Bishop Will Willimon United Methodist Church, Birmingham Area “I pay close attention to whatever Adam Hamilton writes. His books are marked by extraordinary pastoral insight, biblical and theological depth, courage to speak the truth, and down-to-earth practicality. Enough comes like an antidote in the middle of a pandemic. I hope that classes, groups, couples, and individuals will use this book—and the economic crisis it addresses—as a challenge to get healthy again by deepening our discipleship in the vital area of money and possessions.” Brian McLaren, Author/Networker (brianmclaren.net)

"In this volume which I present to the public, I have given a very brief abstract (except as to those places seldom visited or written about) of wanderings in Europe, Asia Minor, and Africa, with a literal transcript of that during my travels in India, China, and Java, taken from a continuous journal in letters to my mother, during a period of five or six years in Europe, Asia, and Africa, and of course reliable from the very nature of the journal. And it is only now, when India and its affairs have assumed such a vast importance before the world, that I have been induced to yield to the repeated solicitations of friends, to give the public my mite of experience and knowledge of the country, its people, customs, government, army, etc., derived during eighteen months of pleasure travel in which I visited every part of India."--J.B.I., from 'A Word to the Reader'.

The contents of this book are a compilation of short commentaries about politics and life in general. These commentaries are presented in chronological order, beginning with the latest (August 2010), and ending with the earliest (June 2008). The objective of the commentaries is to foster a new awareness for the reader by being exposed to new and different ways of looking at and understanding some of the things that affect us all everyday. At the very least, the views, opinions and ideas presented herein should be a refreshing departure from the fare offered by the mass media and their established "talking heads and columnists." It is the opinion of the author that the mass media commentary we all are subjected to on a daily basis is not necessarily relevant to the large majority of citizens because they are made by those who rarely share the same stress of living that most of us do in our everyday lives. So, it is the sincere aspiration of the author that a new awareness and perspective about politics and life in general will result upon reading these humble offerings. Ronald L Clark was born in Indianapolis, Indiana and is the father of four children. Most of his professional years have been involved in design engineering for the United States Navy. He is the holder of a number of patents and was the Science and Technology leader at the Naval Air Warfare Center that featured a technical career that highlights system engineering as the most rewarding of his technical endeavors. He is an avid sailor and still enjoys hitting the links when the sun is shining brightly.
