The notion of a special intimacy between ‘the feminine and the sacred’ has received significant attention since the publication of Julia Kristeva and Cathérine Clément’s famous ecumenical ‘conversation’ of the same name which focussed on the relationship between meaning and the body at whose interface the feminine is positioned. Brought to the wider public as the ‘sacred feminine’, it has also made its mark on popular culture. Taking up the debate and moving beyond anthropology or theology, writers from varied ethnic, geo-cultural and religious perspectives here join with secular cultural analysts to explore the sacred and the feminine in art, architecture, literature, art history, music, philosophy, theology, critical theory and cultural studies. The book addresses key issues in feminist questions of creativity, the imaginary and the sacred as 'otherness', exploring the ways in which visual practices have explored this rich, contested and highly charged territory.

In classical Greece women were almost entirely excluded from public life. Yet the feminine was accorded a central place in religious thought and ritual. This volume explores the often paradoxical centrality of the feminine in Greek culture, showing how out of sight was not out of mind. The contributors adopt perspectives from a wide range of disciplines, such as archaeology, art history, psychology and anthropology, in order to investigate various aspects of religion and cult. They include the part played by women in death ritual, the role of heroines, and the fact that goddesses had no childhood, at the same time posing questions about how we know what rituals meant to their participants. The Sacred and the Feminine in Ancient Greece is a lively and colourful exploration of the ways in which religion and ritual reveal women's importance in the Greek polis, showing how ideologies about female roles and behaviour were both endorsed and challenged in the realm of the sacred.

What happened to the feminine power and face of God? Where did the "mother God" go? Through thousands of years of interpreting the Bible through the lens of language, changing societies and varying views of females and feminine qualities, the concept of God has become more and more male to the exclusion of God's female side of wisdom, mercy, grace, and nurture. If God is our creator and we are all made in his image, God must be both our father and our mother. Come along as we attempt to rediscover through a study of history and language the truth and expand our understanding of the complete and perfect God. - After thousands of years of distortion, it is now time to look at both sides of God.

The Sacred Feminine cuts across several areas and knits them together: Alchemy, Gnosticism, Jesus and Mary Magdalene, John the Baptist, the Templars and their treasure. This book is NOT a repeat of The DaVinci Code --it goes beyond it with facts and connects the dots. While it profiles many major world goddesses, it goes into depth with Mary Magdalene -- not a penitent prostitute and the Church finally agreed in 1969. She was an Apostle to the apostles, from a rich Egyptian family, and she had been a Temple Priestess, hierodulai practicing hieros gamos... she anointed Jesus and knew much of what he knew, including possessing some of his anointing: She stood before Caesar Tiberius and to make a point with him, she turned a white egg to red. Her Gospel of Mary is examined (Ch. 11) and her teaching. The last 2 chapters examine how we can connect with the Divine Feminine/Masculine and achieve a higher awareness. The book could have been called Spiritual Alchemy. The Templars did find treasure and genealogies under the Temple Mount (and the head/skull of John the Baptist) and took it back to France, and some treasure went to Rosslyn, and some went to the New World -- Quebec as a matter of fact... forget Oak Island (TV show), the Templars stashed it elsewhere. They were trying to set up a new kingdom of Saguenay in Canada but failed. Spiritual Alchemy is what the Templars, Gnostics, Mary Magdalene, John the Baptist and the Cathars were after, and it wasn't just to turn lead into gold -- although some alchemists DID do that and it was documented before the King of England. The theme of the book is that there needs to be a return to the Divine Feminine and the Yang Church needs to become the Yin-Yang (balanced)Church if it is to survive. Women and their feminine balance, nurturing, compassion and intuition are sorely needed in today's world as well as the church such that Modern Man (and woman) can better grow spiritually and leave mechanistic, rote religion to the 3rd world tribes. The book also examines Black Madonnas, Leonardo Da Vinci's paintings with their unique symbolism, the Dome of the Rock and what it hides, who the Beloved Disciple of Jesus really was, why Snake Oil IS medically of value, two new and authentic gospel fragments, the Mfkzt [sic] powder discovered in Egypt, and the recent discovery of writing on the Shroud of Turin -- which is authentic: it IS Jesus' shroud. New looks at Ascension, Karma, Reincarnation and Scripts are looked at thru the eyes of Rudolf Steiner, St Germain and the Great White Brotherhood (aka Order of Melchizedek).

PRE-CHRISTIAN EUROPEAN & MEDITERRANEAN RELIGIONS. In pre-Christian Britain the Great Goddess was worshipped either as an equal to the Gods or as an individual deity. From the Palaeolithic 'Earth Mother' to the Celtic goddesses of Boadicea and the Brigantes, this land once revered the divine feminine. Investigations into the history of the Great Goddess presents many questions. Over the past five years Simon Brighton and Terry Welbourn set out to discover what happened to the Goddess after she was evicted from her elevated position. Travelling throughout Britain, they have uncovered traces of the divine feminine: from holy wells and shrines, lost underground chambers to folklore, legends and fairy tales. Between them they have researched and photographed hundreds of sites.

Sacred Feminine examines the role that culture, religion, sociology, art and gender played in the development of the religious Santero art, in particular, the images of women. Santero art beautifully portrayed the feminine both in nature and spirit. The Spanish loved the Virgin profoundly and fervently from the 12th century onward, within the Cult of Mary, in Spain and throughout Europe. This devotion reached its peak just before and during the discovery and conquest of the New World.

A practical guide for inviting the wisdom of Mary Magdalene into everyday life • Provides a unique workbook for use in the spiritual pathwork of Magdalene Circles • Includes wisdom stories, guided meditations, journaling questions, and essays by Margaret Starbird, author of The Woman with the Alabaster Jar • Designed for those involved in Magdalene Circles and those interested in applying the sacred feminine wisdom of the Goddess to their lives Women’s circles have been called a “revolutionary-evolutionary movement hidden in plain sight” by Jean Shinoda Bolen and have been hailed as capable of affecting global change. Magdalene Circles are groups of women who focus their shared energies on the wisdom of Mary Magdalene to gain insight into the role of the sacred feminine in their own lives and to help them advance on their spiritual paths. This book offers 14 lessons to help understand the wisdom offered by Mary Magdalene’s story and mythos. Among the lessons are prophecies of the bride, why we need the bride, Magdalene’s archetypal pattern of descent, and how modern women carry the Grail. Well-suited for the individual reader as well as a group, each lesson includes an introduction, guided meditation, questions for journaling, and an essay by Margaret Starbird as well as suggestions for group sharing. Placing Mary Magdalene within the pattern of “cyclic renewal” of earth-based religions, this book offers the chance to incorporate the sacred feminine wisdom of Mary Magdalene into everyday life for Christians and spiritual feminists alike.

The Sacred Feminine has been a part of our spiritual journeys for more than 27,000 years and has held an important role in most traditions. But patriarchal institutions have eroded our understanding and discounted the role of the feminine. In his latest book, Jim Galluzzo re-introduces us to the historic faces of the Sacred Feminine. His original artwork and the text, hymns and prayers from diverse spiritual paths contained in The Sacred Feminine remind us of this integral dimension of the Divine that we have lost. He believes we need to recover our lost relationship with the Sacred Feminine, who is longing to return and bring us harmony and restore balance between body and creation.
