This is the world according to Nina, or what my life became. Truth be told, I'd like to think these are my diaries, but I soon realized I was simply transcribing what my dogs were telling me. As Nina, the Jack Russell, developed health issues, I began to realize I was going to have to pay closer attention, listen harder and watch even more carefully. Their lives were dependent on me, the alpha. Nina, and her "fluffy" friend Carrie Bradshaw (yes named after the beloved character on the popular HBO series Sex and the City), were my charges. They were under my care for as long as the both shall live, and in order to do the best job possible I was going to have to be the most responsible pet owner I could. So I listened... and transcribed.

There is a city that hovers above the Lost Continent, and it is called the Floating City. It rests high enough that travel between the two requires the use of airships. The buildings are constructed of an unidentifiable stone, which some speculate was brought there during the rather ambiguous Age of Queens. The roads are cobbled and peppered with whimsically formed steel street lamps. What lights the lamps could be magic. It could be alchemy. Only the residents are sure.

The Illuminated World Chronicle

Author : Nina Rowe

File Size : 26.10 MB
Format : PDF, Kindle

Read : 876

A look into an enchanting, underexplored genre of illustrated manuscripts that reveals new insights into urban life in the Middle Ages In this innovative study, Nina Rowe examines a curious genre of illustrated book that gained popularity among the newly emergent middle class of late medieval cities. These illuminated World Chronicles, produced in the Bavarian and Austrian regions from around 1330 to 1430, were the popular histories of their day, telling tales from the Bible, ancient mythology, and the lives of emperors in animated, vernacular verse, enhanced by dynamic images. Rowe's appraisal of these understudied books presents a rich world of storytelling modes, offering unprecedented insight into the non-noble social strata in a transformative epoch. Through a multidisciplinary approach, Rowe also shows how illuminated World Chronicles challenge the commonly held view of the Middle Ages as socially stagnant and homogeneously pious. Beautifully illustrated and backed by abundant and accessible analyses of social, economic, and political conditions, this book highlights the engaging character of secular literature during the late medieval era and the relationship of illustrated books to a socially diverse and vibrant urban sphere.

A memoir about keeping chickens from the author of THE COLOR PURPLE When Alice Walker grew up in the deep south of America, her family always kept chickens - for meat and for eggs - and her job was to chase down the Sunday dinner! In later life, when she settled in Mexico and was growing her own food, she realised how much she missed keeping them and decided to get a brood of her own. So into her life came Gertrude Stein, Babe, Babe 2, Hortensia, Splendor, Glorious, Rufus and Agnes of God, not to mention a few others. She discovered a deep contentment in keeping chickens, looking after them and watching them develop. This also made her think about her own life and brought back severed memories of her childhood. This book isn't a 'how to' on keeping chickens, it is a warm memoir chronicling her journey and the way in which keeping chickens led her to a fuller understanding of herself.

Genre : Biography & Autobiography
File Size : 45.85 MB

"Smiley-Man Chronicles" is the true story and reminiscences of Michael Mulholland, Tahni Jones, Eddy Boros, Kevin Donnelly, the Lefty Jones Band, Edwardo, Pancho Rosie, et al. Technically your author has been more of an archivist and editor than story-teller. He has also tried to hold the price down on this volume so that it will not cost you too much--either spiritually or financially. It reads easily in order, or out, and is about going to the moon, literally & figuratively. Though parts are fiction, the chronicles are largely non-fiction, and they are dedicated to both Nathan Harris, who gave your author everything, and Tahni Jones, who told his sister Georgi shortly before he died that he had been "playing life by ear." Reviews: "Essential reading...a tour de force!" --Stewart Allen, author "The Devil's Cup, In the Devil's Garden" "I couldn't have written a better book without dropping out of school...." --Saul Fisher, Ph.D. "Thank God for The Lefty Jones Band...long live the "Smiley-Man Chronicles.".." --Andy Malm, Drummer, Lefty Jones Band "This book is serious fun, thoughtful, and revolutionary." --Nina Feldman, President, Sweet Bella. "Totally original...ground-breaking." --Walter White, Bassist, Lefty Jones Band. "Unmarketable and brilliant." --Errol McDonald, Editor, Random House.
