This book can help overcome the widely observed math-phobia and math-aversion among undergraduate students in these subjects. The book can also help them understand why they have to learn different mathematical techniques, how they can be applied, and how they will equip the students in their further studies. The book provides a thorough but lucid exposition of most of the mathematical techniques applied in the fields of economics, business and finance. The book deals with topics right from high school mathematics to relatively advanced areas of integral calculus covering in the middle the topics of linear algebra; differential calculus; classical optimization; linear and nonlinear programming; and game theory. Though the book directly caters to the needs of undergraduate students in economics, business and finance, graduate students in these subjects will also definitely find the book an invaluable tool as a supplementary reading. The website of the book – ww.emeacollege.ac.in/bmebf – provides supplementary materials and further readings on chapters on difference equation, differential equations, elements of Mathematica®, and graphics in Mathematica®, . It also provides materials on the applications of Mathematica®, as well as teacher and student manuals.

Here is a basic introduction to Lattice Boltzmann models that emphasizes intuition and simplistic conceptualization of processes, while avoiding the complex mathematics that underlies LB models. The model is viewed from a particle perspective where collisions, streaming, and particle-particle/particle-surface interactions constitute the entire conceptual framework. Beginners and those whose interest is in model application over detailed mathematics will find this a powerful 'quick start' guide. Example simulations, exercises, and computer codes are included.

This well-known work covers the solution of quintics in terms of the rotations of a regular icosahedron around the axes of its symmetry. Its two-part presentation begins with discussions of the theory of the icosahedron itself; regular solids and theory of groups; introductions of (x + iy); a statement and examination of the fundamental problem, with a view of its algebraic character; and general theorems and a survey of the subject. The second part explores the theory of equations of the fifth degree and their historical development; introduces geometrical material; and covers canonical equations of the fifth degree, the problem of A's and Jacobian equations of the sixth degree, and the general equation of the fifth degree. Second revised edition with additional corrections.

General Theory Of Algebraic Equations

This book provides the first English translation of Bezout's masterpiece, the General Theory of Algebraic Equations. It follows, by almost two hundred years, the English translation of his famous mathematics textbooks. Here, Bézout presents his approach to solving systems of polynomial equations in several variables and in great detail. He introduces the revolutionary notion of the "polynomial multiplier," which greatly simplifies the problem of variable elimination by reducing it to a system of linear equations. The major result presented in this work, now known as "Bézout's theorem," is stated as follows: "The degree of the final equation resulting from an arbitrary number of complete equations containing the same number of unknowns and with arbitrary degrees is equal to the product of the exponents of the degrees of these equations." The book offers large numbers of results and insights about conditions for polynomials to share a common factor, or to share a common root. It also provides a state-of-the-art analysis of the theories of integration and differentiation of functions in the late eighteenth century, as well as one of the first uses of determinants to solve systems of linear equations. Polynomial multiplier methods have become, today, one of the most promising approaches to solving complex systems of polynomial equations or inequalities, and this translation offers a valuable historic perspective on this active research field.

Taken from the only life they’ve ever known, to be placed where nothing should exist, Alex and five other teenagers struggle to understand this odd change in their lives after they awaken in a forest and travel together to Ataxia. Things seem to be real, but those things are unheard of by the six who seem to have been chosen for a reason. After Alex is taken to be trained as an Ataxian Traitor and is betrayed by those around her, she still hasn’t found the reason why she is so important in the foreshadow of Ataxia and Malum’s war. No one is trustworthy. No longer can she risk anything more. Alex places her trust in no one’s hands and she takes it upon herself to decide right from wrong in this place. When the reason why she and the others were brought to Ataxia is revealed to her, Alex realizes the danger in being who she is, and it is far greater than she had imagined. The months of training and readying for war couldn’t have prepared Alex for the things she knows, now. Why she was sent here, why she’s needed, and why the Unknowns are such a danger to others, all begins to seem like a game they have all been trying to play for their whole time spent in Ataxia when they discover that the war they’ve attempted to prevent has already begun.
