Private prayer is the life-blood of the Christian. Great men and women of God down through the ages have testified to the effectiveness of secret prayer in their lives. Upon the foundation of biblical teaching, McIntyre cites numerous examples from the lives of church leaders like Augustine, Luther, Whitefield, Spurgeon, and others. The result is a handbook for prayer based both on Scripture and on the time-tested wisdom of God s people throughout history. Reading this book, therefore, will give you an abundance of counselors (Proverbs 11:14) to lead you toward a victorious prayer life. McIntyre s advice may not only transform your life, it could be a catalyst toward a change in the world around you."

Is There A Right Way To pray? "Every time I read this book, the Lord uses it to deepen my prayer life and encourage my faith. I strongly recommend it!" -Wayne Grudem, author of Systematic Theology "My first exposure to the writings of D. M. M'Intyre came through a copy of The Hidden Life of Prayer given to me (and to many other young men) by Leonard Ravenhill. It continues to be the most helpful book I have ever read on the subject of prayer. The Prayer-Life of Our Lord follows in the same train and breathes the same heavenly atmosphere. D. M. M'Intyre is a master at drawing out the profound implications of seemingly simple events. In The Prayer-Life of Our Lord, he centers his meditations on Christ's own prayer life, especially as it was manifested during the 'turning points' and crisis times that lay on His pathway to the cross. As a result, we are given an intimate glimpse into the wondrous personality of One who was both God and man, and we are led once more to fall before Him in worship and praise. At the same time, we are challenged to 'follow in His steps' and to imitate His example in 'the school of prayer.' I highly recommend this book." -Charles Leiter, author of Justification and Regeneration "This little jewel-strewn tapestry has done for me at 64 what Bounds' Power Through Prayer did at 34." -John Piper, author of A Hunger for God: Desiring God Through Fasting and Prayer

The context of the story begins with an overview of the family’s heritage of both parents which provides the reader with the character of their ancestors that rightly prepared them for having the moral and insightful capabilities they faced in caring for their daughter named Joanna. From the first chapter, the story tells of her critical birth process which left her seriously injured, grievously impacting her own life but also strongly affecting her immediate family as well. Her first five years and her schooling away from home for three years are presented. When she became eight years old she was transferred to an Institute where she could develop skills in hope of discovering a more rounded promise toward achieving a life worth living. Through training, hard work and perseverance she is able to reach the capability of living independently and working in a professional dental office. (No doubt aided because she has been blessed by having a prodigious memory in most all activities.) While her effort was a significant achievement, it demanded enormous concentration and most surely caused emotional and medical problems which she overcame only through God’s providential care to live in a normal world which none of her early physicians could ever have imagined. After working for some thirty five years she chose to quit and has since come to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior. She also enjoys being a volunteer in helping the needy which is ironic since she has depended on others for so much in her own life. On the personal side, this young woman delights in being with her family and her company has always been equally meaningful for both her sisters and Dad . Their encouragement has kept her growing in understanding to believe in herself and continually improve in most everything she does. She visits them in New York City, Tidewater Virginia and central Pennsylvania and rejoices in being with her family knowing that she is indeed much loved.

Prayer The Hidden Fire

Author : Tom Harpur

Format : PDF, ePub

For over 25 years, journalist, author and commentator Tom Harpur has been thinking, speaking, and writing about religion and spirituality for the mass media and a popular audience. In the process, he has travelled the globe, written 14 books and thousands of articles on everything from life after death and the place of healing in religion to the controversy over who Jesus is and the rational basis for a firm belief in God. In all of this experience, Tom Harpur discovered that one of the central issues for every faith is prayer. Yet, over his time as a parish priest, seminary professor and commentator, Harpur found a distinct gap in the books available on prayer. Simple, practical, and focused on real life, 'Prayer: The Hidden Fire' is the kind of book on prayer Tom Harpur wanted and badly needed many years ago when he first consciously took over his own spiritual journey. This book examines our deep inner need to pray. Harpur encourages readers to go beyond childhood notions of prayer and to develop a personal style of praying and repertoire of prayers that work for them today. Along the way, Tom Harpur shares experiences from his own spiritual journey, and gives readers his most personal work to date.
