Terms such as "expanding Universe", "big bang", and "initial singularity", are nowadays part of our common language. The idea that the Universe we observe today originated from an enormous explosion (big bang) is now well known and widely accepted, at all levels, in modern popular culture. But what happens to the Universe before the big bang? And would it make any sense at all to ask such a question? In fact, recent progress in theoretical physics, and in particular in String Theory, suggests answers to the above questions, providing us with mathematical tools able in principle to reconstruct the history of the Universe even for times before the big bang. In the emerging cosmological scenario the Universe, at the epoch of the big bang, instead of being a "new born baby" was actually a rather "aged" creature in the middle of its possibly infinitely enduring evolution. The aim of this book is to convey this picture in non-technical language accessibile also to non-specialists. The author, himself a leading cosmologist, draws attention to ongoing and future observations that might reveal relics of an era before the big bang.

This book critically explores answers to the big question, What produced our universe around fifteen billion years ago in a Big Bang? It critiques contemporary atheistic cosmologies, including Steady State, Oscillationism, Big Fizz, Big Divide, and Big Accident, that affirm the eternity and self-sufficiency of the universe without God. This study defends and revises Process Theology and arguments for God's existence from the universe's life-supporting order and contingent existence.

To show from the Big Bang to the end of this universe observers and their souls are the reason for it all. How? By using published scientific facts, figures, and extrapolations from the bio-geo-chemo-physics fields of discoveries. Most of these discoveries are by the worlds top scientists and are generally accepted as facts. This book discusses how the four primary physical forces and the many fundamental constants, through their designed-in fine-tuning and governed interactions, formed the ongoing evolution of our universe. The steady flow of new scientific data and evidence since Isaac Newton has led to the Anthropic Principleits designed for us observers. The number of planets discovered in our galaxy alone, now many hundreds and increasing monthly, virtually leads to the assumption that we are not alone. Now many of those renowned cosmic discoverers publish strong personal suggestions that a super-intelligent mind, transcendent of the big bang, designed the whole works to produce observers. The singularity seems to have been a complete kit to create a universe full of inhabitable planets and observerson earth, thats us. The end product of observers everywhere is souls. Thats what God wants. The supply of hydrogen is finite, so is the universe since the stars will finally burn it all up. This, in turn, limits the number of souls produced for Gods transcendent realm of eternity. This author has discovered nothing but the designed pattern of events and their ultimate results. Read this book, assess the evidence, and you, too, will believe God did it all for his purpose.

Almost everyone has an interest in science. Whether we're simply star-gazing, or conducting laboratory experiments, studying the world around us offers marvelous opportunities to learn. As the natural world unfolds around us, it also prompts philosophical questions: Where did it all come from? Did someone make all this? Geologist and author John Morris, President of the Institute for Creation Research, if often asked a host of questions about how our world came to be. In this book, he answers a hundred of the most common questions, and the variety of topics will excite readers of all ages. In his clear, non-technical style, Morris tackles the following: Has evidence for Noah's flood been found in the Black Sea? Can science prove the Bible? Doesn't carbon dating prove the earth is old? If all animals were created as plant eaters, why do some have sharp teeth? Is there water on the moon? What about stem cell research? And many more!

BIG BANG THEORY IN TROUBLE. The big bang that is accepted as all but proven fact by the majority of cosmologists & other scientists, may be in serious trouble. Virtually every media article that relates to COSMOLOGY refers to a big bang that happened 10 to 15 billion years ago. Those articles occasionally mention technical difficulties concerning the BIG BANG, but invariably hasten to explain that those will soon be cleared up. Occasional articles appear that point out one or more of those flaws, but authors of those are invariably dismissed as misguided "big bang bashers." This book marks the first significant attempt to gather & carefully examine BIG BANG PROBLEMS in a single document. Initial chapters introduce relativity, particle physics & quantum theory as related to current big bang COSMOLOGY. Standard theory, its many flaws, & serious questions regarding the "proofs" of big bang theory are then presented. The newer "inflationary" version of big bang theory is also discussed. All of which is done in a manner that is readily understandable by those having a general background in modern science. COSMIC SENSE BOOKS, P.O. Box 3472, Carson, NV 89702. Tel. (702) 884-3161.

This volume of important papers by one the world's leading astrophysicists provides a sweeping survey of the incisive and exciting applications of nuclear and particle physics to a wide range of problems in astrophysics and cosmology. The prime focus of the book is on Big Bang cosmology and the role of primordial nucleosynthesis in establishing the modern consensus on the Big Bang. This leads into the connection of cosmology to particle physics and the constraints put on various elementary particles by astrophysical arguments. Big Bang Nucleosynthesis has also led to the argument for nonbaryonic dark matter and is thus related to the major problem in physical cosmology today, namely, structure formation. The nuclear-particle interface with astrophysics also extends to the other topics of major interest such as the age of the universe, cosmic rays, supernovae, and solar neutrinos, each of which will be discussed in some detail. Each section contains historical papers, current papers, and frequently a popular article on the subject which provides an overview of the topic. This volume is testimony to the success of the integration of nuclear and particle physics with astrophysics and cosmology, and to the ingenuity of the work in this area which has earned the author numerous prestigious awards. The book, which is accessible to beginning graduate students, should be of particular interest to researchers and students in astronomy, astrophysics, cosmology and gravitation, and also in high energy and nuclear physics.

Transition And Economics

The transition from socialism to capitalism in former socialist economies is one ofthe main economic events of the twentieth century. Not only does it affect the lives ofapproximately 1.65 billion people, but it is contributing to a shift in emphasis in economics fromstandard price and monetary theory to contracting and its institutional environment. Economicresearch in transition shows not only that institutions matter but also how their evolution towardhigher efficiency depends on initial conditions and on sustained political support.Unlike earlypolicy literature on transition economics, which focused on the so-called Washington consensus, thisbook provides an overview of current research, analyzing issues raised by transition for whicheconomic theorists and policy makers had no ready answers. It shows how research on transitioncontributes to our understanding of capitalism as an economic system and of the dynamics oflarge-scale institutional change. The book is divided into three parts. The first part looks at howlarge-scale reforms are decided dynamically through the political process. The second part looks atthe general equilibrium and macroeconomic effects of liberalization in economies without preexistingmarkets. The third part looks at the economic behavior of firms in the transition from state toprivate ownership and compares the effects of privatization, restructuring, and financial reform.Although focused on transition economics, the discussions are relevant to topics in politicaleconomics, development, public economics, corporate finance, and micro- andmacroeconomics.

BIG BANG (THE COSMIC SECRET) UNCENSORED, UNRIVALED, TERRIFYING A computer-generated Armageddon, straight out the brilliant and imaginative mind of creative genius Marco Thoft, this exhilarating read depicts the frightening image of the earths doom and explores the dark and playful plausibility of technology overpowering mans capacity and power. AT MAXWELL CORPORATE UNIVERSITY, five scientists from different creeds and backgrounds working on a military project, attempt to discover the secret for outright creation but find themselves affected by a mysterious cosmic force issued from COMSAT ANTONOF KARETCHEV. The story peaks when four PhD students in nuclear physics and a computer scientist, connected by super-computer TRINITY to a powerful atom-smasher CREATRON, re-enact the exact conditions of cosmic creation or Big Bang from a point outside space-time - inadvertently threatening the small beach resort town of Yapoona close-by. Added to the novels complex plot, is a planetary wobble caused by the gargantuan weight of river damming schemes, removal of mineral deposits and acute oil and gas shifts. The resulting weight list, throwing planet Earth like a marooned freighter, off -balance. Taking queues from some Hindu beliefs, the human race is also equated to Shiva the Destroyer, whose task is to destroy creation... A race of voracious and feisty omnivores which are having a blast and dont mind wrecking the joint they are partying on.
