The book of Acts ends with the Apostle Paul sitting in prison awaiting trial. But what happened to Paul afterwards? Was he acquitted? Did Nero execute him? What of the other apostles? Early church writings contain many works of historical fiction which embellish the histories of the great apostles to such an extent that they are seen performing greater miracles than Moses, Elijah, and Jesus put together. Andrew, for example, is depicted as resurrecting "a great multitude" including children and cattle. What are we to make of such wild embellishments? Can we separate history from tradition? Dr. Criswell, best known for his Biblical Controversies series, sets out to answer that very question. Within these pages, the various histories, traditions, and legends are presented and then evaluated and debated. The reader will thus be able to make his own determinations as to what really happened to the apostles, as well as their companions including men such as Barnabas, Luke, Mark, Aquila, Barsabas, Apollos, and many others. The Apostles After Jesus also contains many maps, charts, and art to help the reader better understand the history of the disciples of Christ.

If you could add a book to the Bible, what would it contain? Here is one answer to that question: a "sequel" to Acts, showing the later careers of the Twelve, Paul's final travels before he faces Nero, the commission of the four Gospels, Jerusalem and its temple destroyed, the importance of the family of Jesus, and how close the apostles got to "the ends of the earth" in spreading the gospel. The Apostles after Acts includes a commentary that explains how the text was reconstructed from ancient sources and historical research. Here is a creative approach to the little-known but critical period when the New Testament record stops--and Christianity is just beginning.

If anyone was born again after Jesus died, and before Pentecost, his disciples were, but they were not. If anyone understood Jesus' purpose and doctrine after he died, and before Pentecost, his disciples did, but they did not. Those two startling observations are confirmed by everything Jesus' followers said and did from the day Jesus died until the day of Pentecost, when they received the Spirit and were born of God.Here is the biblical evidence, everything the Bible tells us about that time in the disciples' lives.

After Jesus, Peter is the most frequently mentioned individual both in the Gospels and in the New Testament as a whole. He was the leading disciple, the "rock" on which Jesus would build his church. How can we know so little about this formative figure of the early church? World-renowned New Testament scholar Markus Bockmuehl introduces the New Testament Peter by asking how first- and second-century sources may be understood through the prism of "living memory" among the disciples of the apostolic generation and the students of those disciples. He argues that early Christian memory of Peter underscores his central role as a bridge-building figure holding together the diversity of first-century Christianity. Drawing on more than a decade of research, Bockmuehl applies cutting-edge scholarship to the question of the history and traditions of this important but strangely elusive figure. Bockmuehl provides fresh insight into the biblical witness and early Christian tradition that New Testament students and professors will value.

The latter half of Chapter 4 of Paul's letter to the Ephesians is the watershed of this magnificent document that is often referred to as the holy of holies. Paul was never hesitant to declare God's truth as he proclaimed it to those professing faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, after praising The Triune God for the love, wisdom, and blessings bestowed upon us during the first three and one-half chapters Paul does an about face and enjoins the believers with these strong words saying, This I . . . testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk in the vanity (futility) of their mind. He is telling the hearers that once they are Christ's they are to walk to a different drummer, the Master Himself. Paul completes the watershed transition by reminding professing Christians, But ye have not so learned Christ. It is with these simple, single syllable words that he opens new horizons for the members of Christ's body and paves the way for enunciating the duties and responsibilities they are to learn and to do when Following Christ. This learning and practicing is not easy, but it us joyful, rewarding, and worthwhile. That is why Paul, before embarking on Christ's learning pathway, tells the followers in the way to, put off . . . the old man; be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And . . . put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. May we heed God's truth as revealed to Paul by the Holy Spirit. These blessings are comforting, strengthening, and manifold when committing ourselves to Walking With Jesus.

An attorney argues the inspired New Testament consists of Jesus' words only. Paul's status is questioned. First, Paul never made a valid prophecy. Second, Paul must be rejected under Deut. 13:5 because he taught the Law of Moses was nullified. Lastly, Jesus most likely intended we understand Paul was the person in Rev. 2:2 whom the Ephesians put on trial and proved was a false apostle. This Ephesus trial is alluded to in Acts ch. 19. Paul refers to it several times as well.

Can society function without a common standard of weights and measures, currency, and time-keeping? Is competition in athletics possible without rules? But what about religion? Is it left up to each person what to believe and practice, or is there a universal standard? There is. God sent Jesus, not only to die as our Savior, but also to reveal an authoritative message for our salvation. Jesus then transferred this message to the apostles. Guided by the Holy Spirit, they in turn preached this message, which is now preserved in the New Testament. This is our standard today.

The scope of the subject presented in this work is expressed on the title page. It will be readily seen that the author has departed from the course usually followed by writers on the Life of Jesus Christ, which course, as a rule, begins with the birth of Mary's Babe and ends with the ascension of the slain and risen Lord from Olivet. The treatment embodied in these pages, in addition to the narrative of the Lord's life in the flesh comprizes the antemortal existence and activities of the world's Redeemer, the revelations and personal manifestations of the glorified and exalted Son of God during the apostolic period of old and in modern times, the assured nearness of the Lord's second advent, and predicted events beyond all so far as the Holy Scriptures make plain.
