With the huge number of studies on nutrition and cancer available, it's impossible for a person to sort through them all to come up with practical recommendations. Now, Dr. David Khayat, a world-renowned oncologist, has done that hard work for you. In this international bestseller, Dr. Khayat provides easy-to-follow—and often surprising—guidelines on what are now known to be the foods most likely to reduce the risk of cancer. For those of a scientific bent, he explains what cancer is and how it develops. Bringing together his own research with that of other major cancer specialists, he breaks down what the studies mean, which ones provide the most solid evidence, and how to use their results in your and your family’s diet. Structured by the major food groups—as well as supplements, beverages, and exercise—The Anticancer Diet may surprise you by not disparaging red meat but alerting you to find out the source of your fish and suggesting sole over salmon. While highly recommending commercial pomegranate juice, it cautions people with fair hair and eyes against drinking orange juice. What stage of life a person is at will also affect what they should consume. Pregnant women, older women, men, and children may process foods differently. With numerous easy-to-read charts and tables along with a comprehensive food list at the back of the book, this accessible, user-friendly guide helps readers realize the power in their everyday choices.

The revolutionary, New York Times bestselling guide to the powerful lifestyle changes that fight and prevent cancer—an integrative approach based on the latest scientific research “A common-sense blueprint for healthy living.” —Chicago Tribune “Resonating with cancer support communities and recommended nationwide.” —Los Angeles Times “Life affirming . . . filled with practical advice.” —The Seattle Times David Servan-Schreiber was a rising neuroscientist with his own brain imaging laboratory when, in the middle of an equipment test, he discovered a tumor the size of a walnut in his own brain. Forced to confront what medicine knows about cancer, and all that we still do not know, Servan-Schreiber marshaled his will to live and set out to understand the complex inner workings of the body’s natural cancer-fighting capabilities. He soon found himself on a decades-long journey from disease and relapse into scientific exploration and, finally, a new view of health. Anticancer is at once the moving story of one doctor’s inner and outer search for wellness and a radical exposition of the roles that lifestyle, environment, and trauma play in our health. Drawing on the latest research in integrative medicine that blends conventional and alternative approaches, Servan-Schreiber concisely explains what makes cancer cells thrive, what inhibits them, and how we can empower ourselves to prevent their growth. His advice details how to develop a science-based anticancer diet (and the small changes that can make a big difference); how to reap the benefits of exercise, yoga, and meditation; which toxic, unsafe products to replace in your home; and how to stave off the effects of helplessness and unhealed wounds to regain balance. Anticancer’s synthesis of science and personal experience marks a transformation in the way we understand and confront cancer. A long-running bestseller that has changed the lives of millions around the world, Anticancer remains a pioneering and peerless resource, an inspirational and revolutionary guide to “a new way of life.”

"...the 'proof' of man's destruction of the environment isconsistently flawed.... the scientific method is being abused andignored. The errors are not random, however, but are systematicallybiased toward attempting to prove the guilt of man in the allegeddestruction of the planet. Objective science is disappearing and isbeing replaced by the pursuit of a philosophical agenda." --Richard F. Sanford in Environmentalism and theAssault on Reason Chapter 1 "The public has numerous misconceptions about the relationshipbetween environmental pollution and human cancer. Underlying thesemisconceptions is an erroneous belief that nature is benign." --Bruce N. Ames, Ph.D. and Lois Swirsky Gold, Ph.D inEnvironmental Pollution and Cancer: Some Misconceptions Chapter7 "Greenhouse gases have been increasing in the atmosphere, largely as a result of human activities. However, the climaterecord does not show the temperature increase and other telltalesigns of the expected greenhouse effect. The mathematical modelsused for predicting such effects are evidently not complete enoughto encompass all of the relevant physical processes in theatmosphere, thus throwing grave doubt on the drastic warminghypothesized for the next century." --S. Cancer is one of the leading killers in the world and the incidence is increasing, but most cancer patients and cancer survivors suffer much from the disease and its conventional treatments’ side effects. In the past, clinical data showed that some complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) possessed anticancer abilities, but some clinicians and scientists have queried about the scientific validity of CAM due to the lack of scientific evidence. There is great demand in the knowledge gap to explore the scientific and evidence-based knowledge of CAM in the anticancer field. With this aim, a book series is needed to structurally deliver the knowledge to readers. Throughout the past few years, the cancer chemopreventive potencies and treatment effects of a number of natural dietary agents present in different food sources have been evaluated by various experiments. Some of them have progressed to early clinical trials. This volume is a specialized book presenting the research evidence relevant to the use of specific diet therapy in cancer chemoprevention and treatment. We begin with lessons learned from dietary resveratrol as an effective agent with anticancer properties against malignancies, followed examples of flavonoids from fruits and vegetables in the prevention and treatment of cancer. Evidence for the beneficial influence of diet enriched with flax seed oil and green tea on cancer will be reviewed. Soy food intake may enhance the effects on anticancer treatment for breast cancer, whereas lycopene-rich foods may possess chemopreventive efficacy. There are also discussions on the contribution of the cancer preventive effects of the antioxidant-rich foods and Mediterranean diet. In addition, the modulation of proteasome pathways by nutraceuticals is highlighted. Finally, we close the book with a discussion on the attenuation of cell survival signaling by bioactive phytochemicals in the prevention and therapy cancer.

"This book is an update of the previous volume on Mediterranean diets published in 2000, which provided extensive reviews of the various diets existing in the Mediterranean region. Since then, a number of studies have been published on the relationship between a 'Mediterranean-type' diet and chronic diseases. However, because the 'diet score' used in those studies does not provide any information on the nutritional composition or quality of the diet, this publication takes an entirely different approach: Particular attention is given to the nutritional factors and their mechanisms in cardiovascular disease, cancer, metabolic syndrome and obesity, and the results of decreasing the [omega]-6:[omega]-3 ratio and its anti-inflammatory effects on several biomarkers are evaluated. Moreover, the effects of olive oil, relative to its antioxidant properties, and the anti-inflammatory and anticarcinogenic aspects of melatonin from plants and fruits common in the Mediterranean region are discussed."--BOOK JACKET.

Finally fulfilling requests from his patients worldwide, internationally acclaimed integrative medical oncologist James W. Forsythe, M.D., H.M.D., has authored his much-anticipated anticancer diet book for consumers worldwide. "We are pleased to meet the requests of patients who for the past several years have persistently asked for the release of this urgent publication," Doctor Forsythe said. "People yearn to know what to eat to prevent cancer or the best foods during treatment." Doctor Forsythe is one of just a handful of practicing integrative medical oncologists in the United States. In that capacity, he serves as both a standard-medicine oncologist and also a homeopath capable of administering non-toxic and effective natural remedies that traditional doctors shun. Doctor Forsythe spent nearly four decades compiling integral specifics of his unique diet regimen. Every week people from around the world travel to Doctor Forsythe's clinic; many of them seek treatment for cancer and for other ailments. As they embrace the Forsythe AntiCancer Diet regimen, many patients discover that this is not a onesize-fits-all eating plan. Instead, each patient receives a specialized diet regimen to his or her unique medical needs. Standard-medicine doctors worldwide promote dangerous drugs and deadly treatments, while often criticizing patients for even entertaining the possibility of visiting natural-medicine doctors like Doctor Forsythe. Yet angry standard-medicine doctors have a difficult time pushing such arguments upon patients who compare results. Nationwide, standard oncologists have up to a dismal 2.1% average overall survival rate for stage IV cancer patients-while those visiting Century Wellness have experienced a 45 percent rate of such recovery.
