ISSN: 2397-9607 Issue 220 In this 220th issue of the Baba Indaba’s Children's Stories series, Baba Indaba narrates the South African tale of why the African Honey Badger, or the Ratel (Raa-til), loves honey. The life of the honey badger is not an easy one. There is a lot of competition in the South African bush for scarce food resources, especially wild honey. So when a Honey Badger finds a fresh beehive, they are apt to raid it for all its worth. To this end Father Ratel has hidden his family’s stash of honey in a sack under his bed. It is brought out on occasion as a special treat for the young honey badgers to sample. But the family’s young son has sniffed out the stash and has been helping himself. His father suspects something is going on as his son has a decided whiff of honey about him all the time. So he asks his son where he is getting the honey from. His son tells him he is getting if from the Sweet Gum tree out there on the Savannah. But his father has never heard of a Sweet Gum tree, especially not one in this area of the veld (bush). He asks his son where this tree is so that he can check it out in the morning – which starts off a chain of events in which young ratel tries to recover the situation with predictable consequences. But is young ratel able to outfox his wily father? The Praetorian Starship The Untold Story Of The Combat Talon

Author :

Genre :
File Size : 58.5 MB
Format : PDF, Docs

Jerry Thigpen's study on the history of the Combat Talon is the first effort to tell the story of this wonderfully capable machine. This weapons system has performed virtually every imaginable tactical event in the spectrum of conflict and by any measure is the most versatile C-130 derivative ever produced. First modified and sent to Southeast Asia (SEA) in 1966 to replace theater unconventional warfare (UW) assets that were limited in both lift capability and speed the Talon I quickly adapted to theater UW tasking including infiltration and resupply and psychological warfare operations into North Vietnam. After spending four years in SEA and maturing into a highly respected UW weapons system the Joint Chief of Staff (JCS) chose the Combat Talon to lead the night low-level raid on the North Vietnamese prison camp at Son Tay. Despite the outcome of the operation the Talon I cemented its reputation as the weapons system of choice for long-range clandestine operations. In the period following the Vietnam War United States Air Force (USAF) special operations gradually lost its political and financial support which was graphically demonstrated in the failed Desert One mission into Iran. Thanks to congressional supporters like Earl Hutto of Florida and Dan Daniel of Virginia funds for aircraft upgrades and military construction projects materialized to meet the ever-increasing threat to our nation. Under the leadership of such committed hard-driven officers as Brenci Uttaro Ferkes Meller and Thigpen the crew force became the most disciplined in our Air Force. It was capable of penetrating hostile airspace at night in a low-level mountainous environment covertly to execute any number of unconventional warfare missions.

Teaching core principles of life to kids is an important exercise for the parents. Making such exercise fun for the kids will help them remember and practice their learnings. Being the parents ourselves, as we thought of effective ways, we concluded that the best way to make it fun is to build short-stories with the backdrop of the African Savannah, that is precisely what we accomplished with this book. The stories are simple, interesting, intriguing and fun.To help children gain general knowledge, we incorporated authentic Masai names and geographically accurate location descriptions. We also included a "Do you know?" section for each story that explains several relevant interesting facts about the animals, locations or people from the stories. We believe to have achieved a great mix of presenting fun stories along with various real-life facts to make the reading worth the time and effort of our little readers and their loving parents (or guardians). The book will be a great purchase for your own children or for gifting it to other family members or friends. Sneak-peek into the book: This book contains 5 short-stories or tales that revolve around several wild animals living in the Ngorongoro crater and a Masai family that lives in a village on the rim of the crater. In one story, you will learn the risk of being jealous of your own family when the little lion cub, Chipo, gets encircled by the evil crocodiles. In another story, the kind monkey, Akili, helps his trapped bee friend. If a gentle hippo is saved by a honey-badger with quick and witty thinking in one story, then the animals group together to escape the hunter in the next one. Feel the fun? Please purchase the book to enjoy these stories. We promise that the book will be your great companion. This is our first book and we are open for any constructive feedback and support. We promise to improve as we publish more such books over time. We also promise to donate 50 cents to a leading children's hospital for every purchased unit.

This new, definitive collection of works — which had appeared separately, in various formats, between 1949 and 1998 — comes with an illuminating introduction from esteemed author and Tolkien expert Tom Shippey as well as Tolkein’s most celebrated essay, “On Fairy-stories,” which astutely addresses the relationship between fairy tales and fantasy.
