We need a whole new mind to thrive in the twenty-first century, says Daniel Pink. As theologians we cannot escape the transition from the information age to the conceptual age of the twenty-first century. In the information age the theologian could give answers based on the best information, but in the twenty-first century information is on hand. Empathy and understanding however are in scant supply today. In the information age there was no room for doubt; certainty was the hallmark of a successful information worker. But today uncertainty is a certainty, thanks to globalization, the information revolution and even quantum mechanics. Uncertainty has been grafted into our collective consciousness. It therefore cannot be theological business as usual. It cannot be about giving answers; it is more about finding the best questions to be answered. It cannot be about winning theological arguments; it is more about living in God's regenerative story while we find ourselves in the liminal space of uncertainty. It cannot be about holding strong opinions; it is more about creating space for life, to allow God's generosity to flow through us. Out of My Mind tells the story of such a transition.

The Workin' Man's Cookbook is the kind of book Al Bundy would have written. He said a long time ago it was wrong to be French. The book is politically incorrect, chauvinistic, rude, and downright funny. It was written for you lunk-heads out there who can't even boil an egg. The recipes are good, for the most part inexpensive, and the directions are easy to follow. After a couple of six packs, you'll enjoy this book even if you don't cook.

Using poetry to express life's trials and triumphs, author Dollar Kidd offers a collection of poetry with a unique approach in Out of My Mind. The work intimately explores Kidd's life and experiences, while the comments following each selection from both Kidd and his online readers, provide additional background from which to understand and appreciate each poem. In Winter Night, he writes, / As I turn into my drive / I see a woman standing aside / She stands with her arms at her side / Dressed in solid black / Low cut neck, in a V to her breasts / Sleeves cover her hands / But split up past the wrists / Her long dark hair covers her shoulders / Often infused with raw emotion, the poems in Out of My Mind not only share Kidd's inner thoughts and ideas, but also demonstrate that positive outcomes can emerge from negative situations.

Drive Me Out of My Mind is a coming-of-age story of wildness and wandering set primarily in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan—its abandoned iron mines, desperate small towns, and heart-breaking bars. It’s the memoir of a boy raised by lawless and itinerant women and how he was cultured—and corrupted—by their hard-living, hard-drinking, and hard-loving ways. Given this lot in life, Faries tells how one boy was hurt into becoming a poet at the ripe age of two—to imagine another world other than the daily madness in front of him—a world where violent stalkers hovered over the hospital beds of women as they gave birth, where father figures also copulated with Gramma, where a worn Barbie doll was a main source of comfort, and where home meant 24 anonymous hovels in 10 years.

Demons of the Mind but a Light Still Shines By: Dave Goodwin You know it’s very difficult to regain trust after it’s been shattered by someone you totally trusted. I still have great difficulty going into public places; my eyes don’t move fast enough to watch everyone, and I hate anyone being behind me. I suppose that’s what happens when someone who professes to love you and thinks how wonderful you are suddenly, five minutes after telling you that, attacks you from behind, stabs you, and almost kills you. Writing these poems brings me a lot of comfort even though sometimes I’m very upset writing the traumatic ones; it does take away the pain if only for a short while. So if in reading them I bring some comfort to the reader, I’m happy, I’ve done what I intended. So for all those very special people in the world who are trying to face horrible and nasty situations, here is Demons of the Mind but a Light Still Shines.

Outta My Mind offers a strongly opinionated view of the world from the perspective of a twenty-year-old poet. Author Armando DeMarchi explores the electric chair, ants, death, and a large number of other lively, unexpected topics. Each of his poems is a literary reminder that we should not take life too seriously and that it is okay to remember the way we feel before it is too late. From “Aggression” to “Hidden,” his poems travel a wide emotional spectrum, guiding us to the truth through his thoughts and emotions. Relax, let your central processing unit take a field trip, and indulge in some of the witty cynicism, playful banter, and touching themes DeMarchi conjures up in Outta My Mind. Affection Do you know exactly, how to measure affection? I myself have conjured theories. At first, I measured it in units of smiles per second, Then laughs per day, squared. But finally, I realized it was simple. It is a ratio, Of me, to you.

Description'Promise me you'll never tell anyone. This can just be our little secret.' Fourteen years ago, Adam Waddoups made his father a promise - and for fourteen years, he's kept that promise, keeping to himself the secret that could so easily rip the fabric of his family apart. But keeping secrets comes at a cost for Adam, and he is tortured by the memories of the past, trapped in a cycle of guilt that regularly plunges him into episodes of depression and mania, which push him dangerously close to the edge. When Adam is diagnosed with bipolar disorder - a diagnosis which is later adjusted to the lesser known schizoaffective disorder - and referred to a psychotherapist, he is forced to confront the demons of his past - and to finally admit the truth, allowing him, at last, to shape a more positive future for himself. About the AuthorMartine Daniel was born in York in 1981. From a young age, she knew she wanted to be a writer, and whilst at secondary school she would often be caught scribbling stories in the back of exercise books during lessons. Her dreams of seeing her name in print never dimmed, despite her life being turned upside down by episodes of mania, depression and psychosis during her late teens and early twenties. In 2003 the pressures of a stressful job brought on an episode of psychotic mania, which led to the breakdown that ended her hopes of a career in bookselling, following which Martine was finally forced into contact with local mental health services. With the help of medication and the support of her family, she began to pick up the pieces of her life and started work on her first novel The Fire in Your Eyes (published 2009), juggling work on the novel with her studies with The Open University. Her second novel, Legacy of Lies, the sequel to The Fire in Your Eyes, was published in April 2010. Wading the Waters of My Mind is her third novel.Martine hopes that by bringing the experience of mental illness alive in her works of fiction she can contribute to the ongoing battle to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health issues.
