Audrey Howard's long-awaited new novel is an epic saga of love and war. Rose Beechworth is mistress of a charming country house - her own, left to her by her wealthy father. In the summer of 1914, she is not even looking for love. Alice Weatherly turns Rose's world upside down. The loveable young heiress longs to kiss Captain Charlie Summers goodbye - she takes Rose to Liverpool's Lime Street station and into the heart of Charlie's brother Harry. Even though they are neighbours, they have never met, for Rose ignores the social round, while Harry's time is taken up desperately attempting to keep his father's ramshackle estate together. He becomes the master of Summer Place, a magnificent mansion with a proud history. He is only too glad when it becomes a hospital for wounded soldiers. As the war takes its terrible toll and Charlie disappears into the fog of battle, Alice - the spoilt runaway heiress - becomes a heroine, while Rose finds herself running two great houses. It seems impossible that any of them can ever find happiness again . . .

Regardless of age, we each live simultaneously as a child and a parent while at home, work, and play. Receiving divine instruction daily, each person remains forever a child in the universe. If you have children, if you have employees or colleagues, if you have friends and family, if you have a spouse or partner, if you aspire to align with Self, you are also a parent, nurturing growth. According to the sacred contract, each of us is charged to nourish the heart of any child entrusted into our care, support every child's development, count the blessings each child brings, cutivate goodness and light, remain true to the divine plan, and facilitate lush growth. Integrating expertise in child development, parenting, and spirituality, the author discusses parenting moments from infancy through the toddler years. Each moment is divided into three sections: an anecdote illustrating a teachable moment in a child's development, a discussion of the developmental concept involved, and an application of the life lesson at a higher level. In addition, prayers are interspersed throughout the book to provide wishes, guidance, and encouragement from the child at heart. A parenting mantra is repeated as a reminder to relax, breathe, and realize that teachable moments are a part of healthy development. Activities are provided to assist the reader's personal development. Each child holds the seed of a parent. Within each parent is the heart of a child. May this book guide you to learn the lessons of child-heart and parent wisely, nurturing the spirit of those entrusted into your care according to the sacred contract. (14, May 1952) ‘POPPY’ Pen takes us back to both he and my childhood fifty years ago with our great-grandfather ‘Poppy’. Though he has changed the names of the characters slightly (my middle name is John, and my sister’s middle name is Louise and so on) ostensibly it was the summer that Pen ‘came of age’. From the innocent young boy to the youth of a young man, experiencing the first close human’s passing and the nature of things around him. Pen reveals in very poetic descriptive phrases new discoveries and wonders of a farm life for a young city boy and his relationship with his great-grandfather. Pen (alias Lanny, a ‘nick name’ he donned as he was known when he was young) brings us into a life that is replete with adventures that ‘boys’ even today experiences as emotional tidbits of life. Many of these adventures and experiences, I too have shared, along with this special bond that ‘Poppy’ had with his great-grandchildren. Pennel ‘Pen’ has always been a dreamer of stories and held these thoughts as precious gems to be admired, and it was not a surprise to me that when he reached adulthood he choose to be a journalist and a writer and teacher. What could be more natural for a boy to hone these skills in the fresh environment of farm life? Indeed there is something very special and magical between a Great-Grand-Parents and their grandchildren. I suppose its because in our childhood days there simply wasn’t that many around. They teach wisdom from life’s experiences in ways that can only be taught from a person that has lived as long as they. In Loving Memory James
