Philip Nel takes a fascinating look into the key aspects of Seuss's career - his poetry, politics, art, marketing, and place in the popular imagination." "Nel argues convincingly that Dr. Seuss is one of the most influential poets in America. His nonsense verse, like that of Lewis Carroll and Edward Lear, has changed language itself, giving us new words like "nerd." And Seuss's famously loopy artistic style - what Nel terms an "energetic cartoon surrealism" - has been equally important, inspiring artists like filmmaker Tim Burton and illustrator Lane Smith. --from back cover

J.L. Gili’s selection of Lorca’s poems in Spanish, with his own unassuming prose versions as guides to the originals, first appeared in 1960. With its excellent introduction and selection it remains a perfect introductory guide to the great poet. The book is ideal for newcomers to Lorca who know, or are prepared to grapple with, a little Spanish. It influenced a generation of readers and poets, including Ted Hughes who first encountered Lorca through this book. Spain’s most celebrated modern poet, Federico García Lorca was born in 1898 near Granada. Poet, dramatist, musician and artist, he was the author of The Gypsy Ballad Book’ (1928) and Poet in New York’ (1940). After his return from New York and Cuba to Republican Spain in 1930, he devoted himself to the theatre, writing three tragedies including Blood Wedding’ (1933). An outspoken supporter of the Republic, he was assassinated at the height of his fame by Nationalist partisans in Granada in 1936, on the eve of the Spanish Civil War.

Old friends drag Steve out of the tropical hideout back up to his old home state of Maine for, of all things, a high school reunion and a funeral. Joining the former rockers coming-of-age journey are some equally confused old friends. The restaurant manager who hates people. A medium who chaotically misinterprets the latest cause he is involved with and the voices he hears, and another buddy whose family is dying off like an endangered species. All of these events come to a head during another summer in the small tourist trap town of Acorn Bay, Maine. Oh yeah, and theres a thirty-eight-pound talking lobster.
