A work of fiction that is at turns poignant, thoughtful, redemptive and heartbreakingly sad awaits readers in Chapters Of Our Lives. The novel is divided into 32 chapters that unmask the feelings of each character through the written word. Chapters Of Our Lives is based on the knowledge, imagination and perception of the author Mary. Readers will meet The Boyds - John, Mary and Robert. John and Mary is an ordinary couple living in a very influential neighborhood. John is a plumber by trade but a millionaire. They live on over two hundred acres of land which Mary calls their crowdom. Their elite neighbors do not like them, because they are blue collar workers; therefore, they have no finesse. Mary feels they are the crows among the peacocks, but she loves to be a crow rather than a peacock. She feels the crows are smarter than the peacocks. John, on the other hand, does not care what people think about him. He wants to do his work and do it well. Robert is the only son of the Boydsa brilliant child who makes mistakes and ends up in jail for murder he did not commit. And theres Jean Peterson, Ginger, Sally, Victoria, Grandma Lainy, Damian, Grandma Bailey and the Bailey twins. The story follows the intertwining lives of these characters- struggles, conflicts, and inner demons that humans fight with every single day. Woven with such craft as if the characters leap out of the pages themselves, the author brings her creative spark to give birth to an elegant piece of fiction. When asked what her story is all about, the author candidly replied that its all about regular things that happen to people. Yet, Chapters Of Our Lives is a solid novel that is carefully constructed, giving special attention to the details, and yet provides it characters space to breathe and exhibit feelings that are genuine, real and raw.

The history of questions with me is lengthy. Since I have been ordained a Bishop on September 30,1962, over twenty-five years ago, I adopted a specific method in teaching and preaching: to give a chance for the audience to introduce their questions and have them answered before the beginning of the main lecture. This way thousands of questions accumulated before me during the thousands of lectures that I have given, in the weekly spiritual meetings, on Friday evenings; the Bible study meetings on Tuesday (1968-1972); the theological lectures on Wednesday; my meetings with the priests; with the Sunday school teachers and their conferences; the meetings of college societies; general meetings in Alexandria, on Sunday; the lectures that were given in the theological seminary in Alexandria and Cairo; or the spiritual meetings during my visits to churches and dioceses. Even before my monastic life, I used to answer the spiritual questions of the readers of the Sunday school magazine and the questions followed me everywhere, even in the monastery. The questions varied some around biblical verses, some about theology, doctrines, ministry, spiritual life or social relationships and many other subjects... I excluded what was repetitious, personal, or what I answered with one sentence or a joke. I chose what was fit from the questions for publication, so the people would not have to ask the same questions again and to have almost uniform answers to such questions. Pope Shenouda III

The Dynasty Years

The Dynasty Years documents and analyses in detail 'the Dynasty phenomenon', the hotly debated success of the Hollywood-made 'Rolls Royce of a primetime soap' which heralded a profound transformation of European television. From the operatic camp of Krystle and Alexis' fight in the lilypond or the Moldavian wedding massacre to the unprecedented gay sub-plot, Dynasty represented, in the words of co-producer Esther Shapiro, "the ultimate dollhouse fantasy for middle-aged women". Using evidence from audience survey results, newspaper and magazine clippings and letters to broadcasters and drawing on semiotics, psychoanalysis, feminism and critical social theories, Jostein Gripsrud examines every aspect of Dynasty's production, reception and context. The result is a groundbreaking critical study. Jostein Gripsrud offers a theoretical but empirically grounded critique of many central positions in media studies, including notions of 'audience resistance' and the 'sovereign' audience and its freedom in meaning-making, arguing against what he perceives as the uncritical celebrations of the soap-opera genre in much contemporary media criticism.
