This paper describes the theoretical framework and the main objectives of the European Comenius project MuViT -- Multiliteracy Virtual. The project engages primary pupils across the world in multilingual and audiovisual reading and writing processes through the use of information technology resources to enhance multi-literacies, plurilingual awareness and transcultural understanding. The paper first sketches the necessity of a pedagogy of multi-literacies in our classrooms. In a second step it details on the objectives and tools developed within the Mu-ViT project. Thirdly it illustrates which research questions and activities are connected with the project. A bibliography is included. (Contains 3 figures.).

This book explores English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) use in online interaction within virtual communities constituted by fans of popular culture texts who engage in creative writing inspired by such texts. Emerging from globalization processes, ELF, computer-mediated-communication, and fandom are here conceptualized as postmodern phenomena, characterized by fluidity, hybridity, and translocal practices, which include the exploitation of plurilingual resources on the part of non-native users communicating in English. This study adopts and applies the notions of linguistic heteroglossia and super-diversity to the qualitative analysis of a fan fiction corpus constituted of online-published stories inspired by Japanese media texts, in which fan writers bring their sociocultural and linguistic repertoires to bear on their stories, interspersing narration and dialogue with non-English language elements to fulfil social, narrative, and pragmatic functions.

The aim of this research study is to provide further insight into the interplays between plurilingualism and identity among first year academic literacy students in university. The participants were from a university located in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia. A qualitative methodology with an interpretivist ethnographic approach was used. I analyzed the data based on the theoretical concepts linking plurilingualism and agency (Coste & Simon, 2009; Marshall & Moore, 2013), multiliteracies and the ways in which identity can be negotiated (Cope & Kalantzis, 2009), discursive practices and their influence on identity (Gee, 2005) and lastly the concepts of identity negotiation and contestation (Blackledge & Pavlenko, 2001; Hall, 1996; Leung, Harris & Rampton, 1997). Participants revealed their perspectives on how they perceived their multi/plurilingualism and how they were able to use their languages across space and time. The participants expressed multiple layers of identity that intersected with ideas of legitimacy, competency, performance and agency in accordance with the physical spaces they occupied.
