Enter KING HENRY, LORD JOHN OF LANCASTER, the EARL of WESTMORELAND, SIR WALTER BLUNT, and othersKING HENRY IVSo shaken as we are, so wan with care, Find we a time for frighted peace to pant, And breathe short-winded accents of new broils To be commenced in strands afar remote. No more the thirsty entrance of this soil Shall daub her lips with her own children's blood; Nor more shall trenching war channel her fields, Nor bruise her flowerets with the armed hoofs Of hostile paces: those opposed eyes, Which, like the meteors of a troubled heaven, All of one nature, of one substance bred, Did lately meet in the intestine shock And furious close of civil butchery Shall now, in mutual well-beseeming ranks, March all one way and be no more opposed Against acquaintance, kindred and allies: The edge of war, like an ill-sheathed knife, No more shall cut his master. Therefore, friends, As far as to the sepulchre of Christ, Whose soldier now, under whose blessed cross We are impressed and engaged to fight,

John Dover Wilson's New Shakespeare, published between 1921 and 1966, became the classic Cambridge edition of Shakespeare's plays and poems until the 1980s. The series, long since out-of-print, is now reissued. Each work is available both individually and as a set, and each contains a lengthy and lively introduction, main text, and substantial notes and glossary printed at the back. The edition, which began with The Tempest and ended with The Sonnets, put into practice the techniques and theories that had evolved under the 'New Bibliography'. Remarkably by today's standards, although it took the best part of half a century to produce, the New Shakespeare involved only a small band of editors besides Dover Wilson himself. As the volumes took shape, many of Dover Wilson's textual methods acquired general acceptance and became an established part of later editorial practice, for example in the Arden and New Cambridge Shakespeares.

Here to enhance any young person's enjoyment and understanding of Shakespeare is a new addition to Oxford's definitive paperback series.Twelfth Nightis one of Shakespeare's most engaging comedies with characters that remain alive even today: Viola speaks for every young girl in love; drunken rogues like Sir Toby Belch still take advantage of cowardly weaklings like Sir Andrew Aguecheek, and plot the downfall of pompous officials like Malvolio. Like all the volumes in the series, the book contains the full text of the play, notes on the main characters, simple explanations of difficult words and phrases, a scene-by- scene commentary, and a brief biography of the bard. Each page is divided into two columns so that the text and accompanying notes appear side by side. Attractive line drawings appear throughout. Editor Roma Gill's sensitivity to first-time readers of Shakespeare makes this series truly accessible. In her introduction she says, "Don't worry too much if you don't fully understand the language at first. A modern poet, T. S. Eliot, said that the best poetry, even in a foreign language, will meansomethingto the reader before it is properly understood."
