New York Times Bestseller A startlingly original debut from the actor, writer, director, and executive producer hailed as “a gifted observer of the human condition and a very funny writer capable of winning that rare thing: unselfconscious, insuppressible laughter” (The Washington Post). A boy wins a $100,000 prize in a box of Frosted Flakes—only to discover that claiming the winnings might unravel his family. A woman sets out to seduce motivational speaker Tony Robbins—turning for help to the famed motivator himself. A new arrival in Heaven, overwhelmed with options, procrastinates over a long-ago promise to visit his grandmother. We meet Sophia, the first artificially intelligent being capable of love, who falls for a man who might not be ready for it himself; a vengeance-minded hare, obsessed with scoring a rematch against the tortoise who ruined his life; and post-college friends who try to figure out how to host an intervention in the era of Facebook. Along the way, we learn why wearing a red T-shirt every day is the key to finding love, how February got its name, and why the stock market is sometimes just . . . down. Finding inspiration in questions from the nature of perfection to the icing on carrot cake, One More Thing has at its heart the most human of phenomena: love, fear, hope, ambition, and the inner stirring for the one elusive element just that might make a person complete. Across a dazzling range of subjects, themes, tones, and narrative voices, the many pieces in this collection are like nothing else, but they have one thing in common: they share the playful humor, deep heart, sharp eye, inquisitive mind, and altogether electrifying spirit of a writer with a fierce devotion to the entertainment of the reader.

In JUST ONE MORE THING, Peter Falk takes us on an acting journey that begins not in Hollywood but in Hartford, where he worked as a management analyst for the Connecticut State Budget Bureau. His time there was no more successful than an earlier attempt to find work with the Central Intelligence Agency. At loose ends, Falk turned to an old college interest: acting. He came to prominence as an actor in 1956 in the highly successful Off-Broadway revival of The Iceman Cometh with Jason Robards. Although he worked continuously for the next three years, bouncing from one Off-Broadway theater to the next, a theatrical agent advised him not to expect much work in motion pictures because of his glass eye. Surgeons had removed his right eye, along with a malignant tumor, when he was three years old. But in 1958, the actor made the jump to Hollywood, where he landed his first movie, Murder Incorporated, and was nominated for an Oscar. Next came Frank Capra's A Pocketful of Miracles starring Bette Davis, which garnered Falk his second Oscar nomination. Falk was a favorite among moviegoers during the 1960s, admired for his roles in classic comedies such as It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World and The Great Race. However, it was through his collaboration with filmmaker John Cassavetes that Falk entered into his most creative period in 1970. Motion pictures such as Husbands and A Woman Under the Influence helped launch the independent film movement. Nevertheless, Falk continued to act in light film comedies, including The In-Laws and Neil Simon's The Cheap Detective and Murder by Death, among others. Yet it was through television that Falk reached his widest audience. He has portrayed the beloved Lt. Columbo since the 1970s, winning four Emmys. The series was so successful that ten years after it's demise, Columbo was re-launched, bringing Falk to a new generation of viewers. JUST ONE MORE THING also chronicles the author's more recent work, such as movie appearances in A Shark's Tale and Paul Reiser's The Thing About My Folks, as well stories of growing up in New York, Hollywood and Broadway luminaries, and the author's accomplished passion for drawing and painting.

When daughters strike out on their own, they usually know the basics: never answer the door without asking who's there, always write thank-you notes, don't wear a T-shirt that says "Beer Is Food" to a job interview. But it's usually only the do-or-die warnings that stick: daughters are notorious for their allergic reactions to their mother's advice. Now, for daughters of all ages who wish they had listened just a little more-and for their mothers, who want to pass on the invaluable information only a mother can give-comes a book that offers hundreds of sophisticated, savvy pointers on just about everything a young woman needs to know. Unabashedly modern, practical, and wise, And One More Thing... is based on the journal Joan Jakobson created for her own daughter when she became engaged. In addition to telling you how much to tip bellmen and doormen, this fearless author explores subjects the etiquette books won't touch-like how to spot a cheating spouse and why actual childbirth should never be videotaped. Are e-mail thank-you notes ever OK? What are the important differences between Jewish and WASPy men... so-so and fabulous flower arrangements...imitation and real Pradas? Why should you use lash primer and never hesitate to talk about sex and politics at a dinner party? An often hilarious mixture of attitude, priceless insights, and time-tested observations, And One More Thing... is the only guidebook of its kind. Who could ever have guessed that Mother really does know best?

I didn't ask to slip on a piece of gum then fall in love with a man who would die before the ink was dry on our marriage certificate. But that's what fate had in store and it broke me. I vowed I would never fall in love again. Five years later, fate has one more thing in store for me. It wants to play around in my life again. Its tool? Another blasted stick of gum. Same place, only this time, it was Jude Baker, a university lecturer, who slipped on the gum. Despite being a pacifist, he wasn't particularly happy about it and made his distaste abundantly clear. But that stick of gum was the catalyst of a series of events where our paths would continue to cross. There would be a broken nose, a fractured hand, a cat on a lead and a crashed corporate Christmas party that would align our hearts and make me realise that I wanted to be happy again. But there would be tears. Many, many tears. Because falling in love isn't easy, especially when you're still in love with another man.

This is a unique approach to ADHD, from the perspective of an adult "ADHDer" who is seeking to understand her diagnosis and seek out solutions. From the book: First, I aimed to help others by being honest about my own experiences. Second, I wanted to do the following to help not just me but others with ADHD by doing the following: - research ADHD treatments and suggestions; - read books, articles, and websites; - try many of the suggestions; and - offer my feedback on what I've explored. I hope this journal helps you know that you are not alone. I care about you and what you are struggling with. Together, we can find the good in ADHD and make it work for us-to our advantage-instead of us feeling like ADHD is controlling our lives. Overall, educating myself has been the most powerful tool of all. Understanding ADHD with both its gifts and challenges has made it easier for me to live with ADHD and, I believe, easier for others to live with me.

Mother One More Thing

MOTHER, ONE MORE THING by Carla Schwartz brings such a sharply defined sensibility to experience and memory that there is always much more than just one more thing. "In Carla Schwartz's MOTHER, ONE MORE THING, the details of the natural world, as well as the lives we make together as families, friends, and even individual daydreamers, come into radiant focus. Schwartz attends to her subjects with great sympathy, but she refuses to sentimentalize those subjects. Poems such as 'Green Dress, ' 'Last Glass of Orange Juice, ' and 'MOTHER, ONE MORE THING' only strengthen their emotional force by exploring the subtle and often contradictory aspects of their occasions. Schwartz is an excellent poet, and her book is built to last." - Peter Campion "Darting between the elegiac and the voluptuous with the guilelessness of a young girl, Carla Schwartz's graceful first collection examines loss and continuation from the perspective of a naturalist and a daughter. Schwartz's poems display a flirtatious reverence for the world of all that ripens and wizens - processes worthy, to this poet, of equal praise. We follow her five keen senses from berry patch to sickbed to clear and frigid lake, feasting and lamenting at what must perish. By the end of this succulent book, we have grieved and celebrated lavishly, and our fingers and lips are stained with nectars and pigments the poet has offered us from her unabashed palette." - Frannie Lindsay "MOTHER, ONE MORE THING: a meaty, topical, alluring, and dynamic piece of work. The narrator takes over her mother's skin at times, climbs inside, and thinks for her. An amazing collection." - Lea Banks
