Celia Sánchez is the missing actor of the Cuban Revolution. Although not as well known in the English-speaking world as Fidel Castro and Che Guevara, Sánchez played a pivotal role in launching the revolution and administering the revolutionary state. She joined the clandestine 26th of July Movement and went on to choose the landing site of the Granma and fight with the rebels in the Sierra Maestra. She collected the documents that would form the official archives of the revolution, and, after its victory, launched numerous projects that enriched the lives of many Cubans, from parks to literacy programs to helping develop the Cohiba cigar brand. All the while, she maintained a close relationship with Fidel Castro that lasted until her death in 1980. The product of ten years of original research, this biography draws on interviews with Sánchez’s friends, family, and comrades in the rebel army, along with countless letters and documents. Biographer Nancy Stout was initially barred from the official archives, but, in a remarkable twist, was granted access by Fidel Castro himself, impressed as he was with Stout’s project and aware that Sánchez deserved a worthy biography. This is the extraordinary story of an extraordinary woman who exemplified the very best values of the Cuban Revolution: selfless dedication to the people, courage in the face of grave danger, and the desire to transform society.

In 'One Day in December', Scarborough based author D.B. Lewis, working together with local Wilfred Owen historian, Len Friskney, has linked together various aspects of the First World War as they affected this North Yorkshire seaside resort. The book covers 'The Bombardment of Scarborough' in December 1914, the war poetry of Wilfred Owen written during his time in the town, and the effects of the war on the local people. The book contains chapters on the production of community theatre based on these topics which is suitable for use by schools and youth groups together with a chapter on the legacy of Wilfred Owen in the dialogue for peace. Using new material the book is a fascinating look at this era of Scarborough's history and a strong testimony for the cause of international concord.

It's 1987 and the Nixon's are home watching A-Team, Top Gun and OJ commercials while drinking Tab and and complaining about cicadas, parking and leftists. A portrait emerges of the Nixons settled into an absurd but predictable routine in suburban New Jersey where they hang with the likes of Sammy Davis, Jr. keep in touch with Kissinger, and live out their golden years, Everything changes when they see a young Donald Trump on Donahue. In that moment, Dick knows exactly what to do--it's time to write Donald a letter.A raucous and fiendish satire unfolds as we are given a glimpse on how titans of the 1970's approached old age in the excesses and weirdness of the late 1980's.Part memoir, part puppet play script, and and part late 1970's sitcom where Nixon loosely assumes the mantle of Job alongside Sammy, you have never seen anything like this in print.Originally conceived as a work of conceptual art masquerading as satirical fiction, readers should buckle up for a twisting and hilarious adventure that probes the outer reaches of what a book, political humor and post modernism are capable of.

What a beautiful, emotional gift Josie Silver has given us.”—Jodi Picoult Written with Josie Silver’s trademark warmth and wit, The Two Lives of Lydia Bird is a powerful and thrilling love story about the what-ifs that arise at life’s crossroads, and what happens when one woman is given a miraculous chance to answer them. Lydia and Freddie. Freddie and Lydia. They’d been together for more than a decade and Lydia thought their love was indestructible. But she was wrong. On Lydia’s twenty-eighth birthday, Freddie died in a car accident. So now it’s just Lydia, and all she wants is to hide indoors and sob until her eyes fall out. So, enlisting the help of his best friend, Jonah, and her sister, Elle, she takes her first tentative steps into the world, open to life—and perhaps even love—again. But then something inexplicable happens that gives her another chance at her old life with Freddie. A life where none of the tragic events of the past few months have happened. Lydia is pulled again and again through the doorway to her past, living two lives, impossibly, at once. But there’s an emotional toll to returning to a world where Freddie, alive, still owns her heart. Because there’s someone in her new life, her real life, who wants her to stay.
