A deeply affecting memoir of motherhood and daughterhood, and how we talk about both, from popular writer Laura June “Laura June writes with wit and melancholy, unabashed joy and tenderness. . . . When I reached the end, I found myself in tears.” —Roxane Gay Laura June’s daughter, Zelda, was only a few moments old when she held her for the first time, looked into her eyes, and thought, I wish my mother were here. It wasn’t a thought she was used to having. Laura was in second grade when she realized her mother was an alcoholic. As the years went by, she spiraled deeper, and by the time of her death, before Zelda’s birth, the two had drifted apart entirely. In Now My Heart is Full, Laura June explores how raising her daughter forced her to confront this tragic legacy and recognize the connective tissue that binds generations of women together. As she documents in beautiful and irreverent prose the pain and joy of raising a child, Laura shows how, even a generation later, we still do not have the language to fully discuss the change that a woman undergoes when she becomes a parent and finds that, to her surprise, she has more in common with her mother than she ever knew.

Awaken to Life shows life from different perspectives such as from being homeless, to being a troubled teen in love or heartbroken, to what it is like in a chaotic household as a child. Challenges like losing someone close and gaining back your strength to get through the day, and what is yet to come in life are covered. In Awaken to Life, no one is invisible, and it describes in detail perspectives that people try to deny exist.

The three stages of existence are Ignorance, Awareness and Enlightenment. There is a raging river before you. You stand on one side. Beside you is all your baggage. To move forward you need to cross that river. You know there is no way that you can walk through it with all your baggage. To get across you need to unpack and take piece by piece, or leave it all behind. Once you decide to unpack and begin to cross, you become aware of having no experience in doing this. You also are aware that this could be life threatening. Many people would look at the river and feel they dont have what it takes to get across, let alone do it several times. Others would take their bags and walk a different path, one that feels safer and easier. Then there are those who take the challenge. They want whatever it is that is waiting on the other side of the river. With a treasure in one hand, and the other hand for balance, they enter the raging river of Awareness. By the time you have made it half way across, you realize it will wash you away, if youre not smart with your instant choices. You look back to the land of Ignorance. You cannot go back, you know now this treasure is weighing you down. You look to the bank you are heading towards. You make a choice how to reach the bank of Enlightenment. Do you go down? Do you hold onto that treasure and let the river take you through torment? Alternatively, do you let it go?

A lawyer by profession, Theodore Martin (1816-1909) gained literary distinction as both a humorous essayist and versatile translator. He found his greatest success, however, in the role of biographer to Prince Albert (1819-61). Commissioned by Queen Victoria to memorialise her late husband, this five-volume work was first published between 1875 and 1880. Intended as a continuation of the biography begun by Charles Grey (also reissued in this series), it has been described as 'less adulatory in tone than might be expected'. A treasury of letters and memoranda, it presents a detailed portrait of the character, words and deeds of a man whose life was necessarily immersed in the great events of his time. Volume 5 covers Albert's final years, from 1859 to his protracted illness and death in 1861 at the age of forty-two.

This is the only English translation of this important book by the world's most distinguished Bach scholar. This work is widely regarded as the most authoritative and comprehensive treatment of the Bach cantatas. It begins with a historical survey of the seventeenth-century background to the cantatas, and performance practice issues. The core of the book is a work-by-work study in which each cantata in turn is represented by its libretto, a synopsis of its movements, and a detailed analytical commentary. This format makes it extremely useful as a reference work for anyone listening to, performing in, or studying any of the Bach cantatas. All the cantata librettos are given in German-English parallel text. For the English edition the text has been carefully revised to bring it up to date, taking account of recent Bach scholarship.
