Over the years, there have been many people whom I have known and with whom I have shared my many exploits. Many of those same people encouraged me to pen my story; too many to single out. As I figured everyone in my generation had a story equally inspiring in its own right, I never really thought this would be something to do. But, as I aged, the more I thought about the idea, the more I came to believe that this book, Never Alone, would be something to hand down to my family, something they may read as a source of encouragement. The only legacy I have ever known was that of my grandfather, and, despite having very little knowledge of him, it is a legacy I hold dear. Perhaps Never Alone can serve as a legacy of sorts for my family in future generations. I would hope as people read this, they will see the message more than the messenger. As I wander down the last road of my life, I realize mine has been a life profoundly touched by a great many people. It is sad knowing most of those instrumental people are now gone and cannot read how they, with their unbeknownst kindness, had a hand in molding the man I am today. To those people who are gone, and to those who are still alive today, I dedicate this book.

A classic account of courage, integrity, and most of all, belonging In 1977, Natan Sharansky, a leading activist in the democratic dissident movement in the Soviet Union and the movement for free Jewish emigration, was arrested by the KGB. He spent nine years as a political prisoner, convicted of treason against the state. Every day, Sharansky fought for individual freedom in the face of overt tyranny, a struggle that would come to define the rest of his life. Never Alone reveals how Sharansky's years in prison, many spent in harsh solitary confinement, prepared him for a very public life after his release. As an Israeli politician and the head of the Jewish Agency, Sharansky brought extraordinary moral clarity and uncompromising, often uncomfortable, honesty. His story is suffused with reflections from his time as a political prisoner, from his seat at the table as history unfolded in Israel and the Middle East, and from his passionate efforts to unite the Jewish people. Written with frankness, affection, and humor, the book offers us profound insights from a man who embraced the essential human struggle: to find his own voice, his own faith, and the people to whom he could belong.

Elizabeth Haynes’ new psychological thriller is a brilliantly suspenseful and shocking story in which nothing is at it seems, but everything is at stake. Sarah Carpenter lives in an isolated farmhouse in North Yorkshire and for the first time, after the death of her husband some years ago and her children, Louis and Kitty, leaving for university, she’s living alone. But she doesn’t consider herself lonely. She has two dogs, a wide network of friends and the support of her best friend, Sophie. When an old acquaintance, Aiden Beck, needs somewhere to stay for a while, Sarah’s cottage seems ideal; and renewing her relationship with Aiden gives her a reason to smile again. It’s supposed to be temporary, but not everyone is comfortable with the arrangement: her children are wary of his motives, and Will Brewer, an old friend of her son’s, seems to have taken it upon himself to check up on Sarah at every opportunity. Even Sophie has grown remote and distant. After Sophie disappears, it’s clear she hasn’t been entirely honest with anyone, including Will, who seems more concerned for Sarah’s safety than anyone else. As the weather closes in, events take a dramatic turn and Kitty too goes missing. Suddenly Sarah finds herself in terrible danger, unsure of who she can still trust. But she isn’t facing this alone; she has Aiden, and Aiden offers the protection that Sarah needs. Doesn’t he?

One of the things I learned on this thousand-mile walk is I am only vulnerable when I hide and, I hide when I feel threatened, not up to the challenge, or I am ashamed about something. Also, I realized as humans, most of us are always host to at least one if not all three conditions that invest heavily in our sense of guilt, shame and fear. These conditions exist greatly because of the ill will that we have projected and invested in the image of our own creation, not understanding the power we put into such an investment, nor do many of us have the spiritual understanding of the spoken and unspoken word, and its internal and external power over our thought processes as well as our behavior. On the other hand, I believe with positivism one can disinvest in all ones negativity. One cannot do harm to ones neighbor without doing harm to ones own character, self-esteem, emotional and mental stability; ones own sense of self is diminished. Let us step out of fear and free the heart; free the heart and step into the power of ones eternal-self and you are, once again, walking in humanity, in spirit, reflecting the loving image of Spirit, not the confusion we have placed upon such a concept.

Never Alone shares Cassidy B.'s story of addiction and salvation written in verse form. Her poetry explores the challenges that many addicts face. Most reach a turning point at which only they can answer the question of whether or not they suffer from the disease of addiction. It may take months or even years to come to this self-realization, and during that time the tumultuous disease of addiction can destroy families, loved ones, and individuals, affecting many more people who live and work around the addict as well. Even so, from the lowest of lows, it is possible to create miracles in our lives through the process of recovery. Through her poetry, Cassidy B. expresses the loneliness and despair of an addict's life and the light of recovery that only few are able to experience. Never Alone illustrates the roller coaster of emotions that many must face if they stay long enough to experience the gifts and beauty that can be achieved through willingness to change their lives.

Does your life seem to be empty, without meaning and/or purpose? Is the intense feeling of emptiness driving you into substance abuse, alcohol or promiscuous activities? Do you feel abandoned, because family and friends have distanced themselves from you? Maybe your testimony as a Christian has opened the flood gates of satan to drown the life out of you and you just don’t feel you can make it any more, because it’s too much for you to bear. Well, listen to this. The God that I serve, His name is Jehovah. He is greater than the adversity you are facing. You are not alone! From a divine perspective, I say this to you: Fight the good fight of faith! Hold on to the faithfulness of God’s Word and endure difficulties without wavering. And then, according to 1 Peter 5:10, “...may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen and settle you.” Glory to God!!! YOU ARE NOT ALONE! God will transform your loneliness into infinite happiness. No amount of friends, social gatherings, family get-togethers, movies, sports or lovers can ever fill the inner void from which loneliness originates. Only God can. When all our entertainments and “busy-ness” fail us, it’s time to look outside ourselves to our heavenly Father, Jehovah. Because He lives, YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY NEVER ALONE!
