Reporter Robin Hudson gets the scoop on a DOA OB/GYN in this “hilarious, keenly written romp” from the author of What’s a Girl Gotta Do? (Entertainment Weekly). A nice girl like Robin Hudson never expected to find herself at an S&M club, but as a third-string reporter for a tabloid TV news show, she must pursue all the sleazy leads her jerk boss hurls her way with a smile on her face—at least on camera. But this time the story hits close to home. Robin’s always thought a person has to be a little sadistic to become a gynecologist, but when her new OB/GYN is shot through the heart and handcuffed to his office chair, a matchbook from an S&M establishment is the only clue. Much to the delight of Robin’s muckraking boss, the not-so-good doctor had his hands in all sorts of sordid activities. But Robin, on the other hand, is having a hard time whipping up any enthusiasm to interview the dominatrix who runs the club. It’s also the worst time for her Bible-toting Aunt Mo to visit New York City—aka Sodom and Gomorrah—to set Robin on the straight and narrow. Aunt Mo is convinced the streets aren’t safe—and maybe she’s right. A sniper is taking potshots at anxious All News Network anchormen, and it’s starting to look like the target practice is connected to the dead doc. Now, it’s up to Robin to dodge the bullets—not to mention Aunt Mo—and get the killer in her sights. And then she needs to find a new gynecologist! Nice Girls Finish Last is “a rollicking blend of deftly aimed satire and neatly plotted murder mystery” from award-winning author and former CNN journalist Sparkle Hayter, winner of the Sherlock Award for Best Comic Detective as well as an Arthur Ellis Award for best first mystery novel (The Philadelphia Inquirer). The Robin Hudson Mystery series is a winner of the Sherlock Award for Best Comic Detective. Nice Girls Finish Last is the 2nd book in the Robin Hudson Mysteries, but you may enjoy reading the series in any order.

Which Everyday Idols Are Holding You Captive? FOOD. BUSYNESS. IMAGE. POSSESSIONS. ACHIEVEMENT. APPROVAL. CONTROL. PERFECTIONISM. ATTENTION. HAPPINESS. BEING RIGHT. "PERFECT" RELATIONSHIPS. INDEPENDENCE. REVENGE. SELF-PITY. LOVE. SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS. Like most women, you probably have a life filled with modern-day "idols" that attempt to steal your attention and affection from God. Innocent-seeming idols like chocolate, thighs of iron, and a home that rivals Martha Stewart's. Things you turn to first, before turning to God, when you long for comfort, affirmation, self-worth, or love. You know that God is the answer to all your needs. But then you have a fight with your husband, and that cheesecake in the fridge starts calling your name. You stay home from a women's retreat because your wardrobe is (literally) from the last century. You desperately wish that your house or hair or kids were as nice as your friend's (or anybody else's).

The Medium Next Door is the amazing life story of spirit medium Maureen Hancock, who discovered her psychic abilities to see, hear, and speak with the dead when she was just five years old. Descended from a long line of legendary Irish mystics, Maureen was no stranger to the spiritual realm, but she still kept the messages from the departed to herself all throughout her childhood and teen years, eventually suppressing them almost completely. Maureen wouldn't open herself up to communicating with spirits again until she was in a near-fatal car crash. Soon after, she had hundreds of voices in her head, many of them helping her crack cases and expose fraud in her role as a litigation paralegal at a large Boston law firm. Accepting her gift but still keeping it to herself, she married and had two children. It wasn't until tragedy struck on 9/11 and Maureen was bombarded with messages from the spirits that she realized she had to stop hiding her ability and put it to good use. She left her job at the law firm and opened the holistic healing center Pathways to Healing and launched the cancer foundation Manifest a Miracle. Today, she goes by the title Medium Mom and strives to balance raising children, raising the dead, assisting the dying, searching for missing children, and teaching about life after death.

Surviving Suicide

Author : Reanne Goes

The purpose of me wishing to share my experiences on this journey of grief was to firstly outline some of the emotions and feelings you can go through after losing someone you love to suicide. All of these feelings of guilt, regret, abandonment, unworthiness, and insurmountable sadness are all just stages in the grieving process. It is important to share your story and still talk about the one who passed to keep them alive in your heart. This will make you feel closer to them and comfort you in your grief. You will also draw in people who will be able to support you through this grieving process who have had similar experiences. I also wanted this to be an insight into one young experienced mans life that lived his life to the full and lived balancing on a wire. It was the drugs in the end that took his life. He took drugs to hide the pain of his past and like most people who indulge to cover up his true feelings. The demons of his past were eating him up like a disease. Adam had a full life; he was intelligent and a streetwise, well-travelled loving man. However, it was depression that sent him into a spiral which ultimately led to his death. After Adam died, people would say to me things like, Did you see this coming? Were there any signs? I knew that there was something wrong, and his downward spiral happened way too quickly for me to have any control over the outcome. I could feel it taking over, and I did not know what to do. One minute, he was partying with friends, then the car accident, and then the downward spiral which led to his demise. Within a week, I watched him go through so many negative mixed emotions. He was anxious, incredibly distressed, crying, angry, and by the middle of the week, he transgressed into a very solemn, dark, and very quiet mood. I felt helpless to console him. Adam was the type of man who kept his troubles to himself. This obviously did not help. Depression is a very serious illness that can be so debilitating for the sufferer that they see no other way out but to end their lives. There are many contributing factors that can lead to depression, and unfortunately, over two million Australians suffer from this illness coupled with anxiety and sometimes alcohol and or drug abuse. Out of these sufferers, 10 per cent will take their own life every year. If people are abusing drugs and alcohol, there is a reason. The only reason these vices are abused is to mask pain and hide behind it. Statistically, men take their own life four times more than women. Men tend to suppress their true emotions when under stress and do not talk openly as much as women do about what is troubling them. It does not have to be this way, as fortunately now, there is more and more government support provided and groups that we can join to share our troubles and concerns. My message to anyone who reads this book is to be there for your friends and family. More importantly, be there for yourself so that we can all be strong and support each other in times of need. We all play an important role in someones life, and we should be there for each other. Be well, live, and love.
