Chemistry is the study of matter in the form of atoms, molecules, and the interactions that happen between them called chemical reactions. In its vast sense, chemistry is actually the science of all the available materials that make up the world around you. This includes all ‘matter’ that you can see, hear, smell, taste, and touch! Matter is everything that has mass and occupies space and all matter is composed out of the basic building blocks we call ‘atoms’. Understanding how to predict and explain how matter change when they react to form new substances, is what chemistry and chemists are all about! The 50 projects contained in this science experiment e-book cover a wide range of Chemistry topics; from Chemical reactions to Elements & Compounds… there are even experiments on chemical power and endothermic reactions all designed for young students from grade 1 to 8! With this book, you are sure to find a project that interests you. When you are interested in a certain science topic, you will have more fun, and learn more, too! With the help of this book, you will construct many weird, wonderful and wacky experiments that you can have hours of fun with! Amongst many others, you will use chromatography to predict the ‘fall’ colour of a green leaf tree, make your own stalactites to learn about evaporation, make glue, toothpaste and caramel to experiment with chemical reactions, and use various substances to test if a substance is an acid or base! Other fun experiments include: growing your own crystals on a piece of string, testing for the presence of iron in breakfast cereals, writing secret messages to your friends with your own invisible ink, using iodine to test for the presence of starch in foods, making a detector to predict the possibility of rain, making an exothermic reaction with vinegar & steel wool, using chemistry to make your dull coins shine, electro-plating a nail, making a ‘lava lamp’ with oil & water, making a fluid for copying newsprint to blank sheets of paper, making paper, snuffing out a candle by ‘pouring’ carbon dioxide gas over it, Testing how much Vitamin C is contained in various fruit juices and many, many more! When making these gadgets, you’ll discover that science is a part of every object in our daily lives, and who knows, maybe someday you will become a famous inventor too! Science can be real simple and is actually only about understanding the world you live in! Science certainly does not need to be complicated formulas, heavy text books and geeky guys in white lab coats with thick glasses. Science experiments are an awesome part of science that allows you to engage in cool and exciting hands on learning experiences that you are sure to enjoy and remember! By working through the science experiments in this book, you will learn about science in the best possible way – by doing things yourself. Designed with safety in mind, most of the items you will need for the experiments, such as jars, aluminium foil, scissors and sticky tape, you can find around your home. Others, such as magnets, lenses or a compass, you will be able to buy quite cheaply at a hobby shop or hardware store.

Muwahahahaha! Dr. Frankenstein. Marie Curie. Dr. Moreau. Captain Nemo. They're the most fascinating minds of all time--and now a science guru has teamed up with an expert in human psychology to coax them out of their laboratories and onto the analyst's couch. Real and fictional, famous and infamous, crazy and just crazily driven, these brilliant men and women exhibit a list of neuroses almost as impressive as their extraordinary accomplishments. At last, you can explore their early fixations, their ambitions, their successes and failures, and the particular quirks that have granted each induction into the Mad Scientist Hall of Fame, including: • Dr. Evil: Megalomaniacal doctor with antisocial personality disorder (and pathological dislike of his own son, Scotty) • Nikola Tesla: Real-life mad scientist with obsessive compulsive disorder (and he talked to aliens) • Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde: Brilliant doctor gone bad, suffering from multiple personality disorder (and a penchant for strong chemical cocktails) • Lex Luthor: Villain and supergenius with manic mood disorder (and premature baldness) Witty, illuminating, and thoroughly entertaining, this one-of-a-kind book offers irrefutable proof that success, super-intelligence, and a mantelpiece full of Nobel prizes is no guarantee of sanity. Praise for Daniel H. Wilson "Daniel H. Wilson and Anna C. Long have made an exhaustive study of the evil mind. It is complete, pulls no punches, and reveals secrets that have hitherto remained hidden. It is for these reasons that I must liquidate them. Great book!" --Mike Myers, aka Dr. Evil from Austin Powers "Forget about John Connor--it's Daniel H. Wilson who is going to save us from the Terminators." --Forbes on How to Survive a Robot Uprising "A tribute to the far-fetched ideas that often drive progress." --Erik Sofge, Popular Mechanics, for Where's My Jetpack?

From Victor Frankenstein to Lex Luthor, from Dr. Moreau to Dr. Doom, readers have long been fascinated by insane plans for world domination and the madmen who devise them. Typically, we see these villains through the eyes of good guys. This anthology, however, explores the world of mad scientists and evil geniuses—from their own wonderfully twisted point of view. An all-star roster of bestselling authors—including Diana Gabaldon, Daniel Wilson, Austin Grossman, Naomi Novik, and Seanan McGuire...twenty-two great storytellers all told—have produced a fabulous assortment of stories guaranteed to provide readers with hour after hour of high-octane entertainment born of the most megalomaniacal mayhem imaginable. Everybody loves villains. They're bad; they always stir the pot; they're much more fun than the good guys, even if we want to see the good guys win. Their fiendish schemes, maniacal laughter, and limitless ambition are legendary, but what lies behind those crazy eyes and wicked grins? How—and why—do they commit these nefarious deeds? And why are they so set on taking over the world? If you've ever asked yourself any of these questions, you're in luck: It's finally time for the madmen's side of the story. Imagine your body has 100 units of recovery at its disposal. When you do a workout, for example chest, back and biceps, your body allocates a certain number of units of recovery to each body part. Which body parts do you think will get the most units of recovery in this example? The chest and back, of course, because they are larger. Where does that leave the smaller biceps? Lagging. "Specialization Training" addresses this discrepancy. By focusing on one specific body part and reducing the recovery needs of all your other body parts, you can make tremendous progress in that specific body part in very short periods of time. Imagine all the recovery that normally goes towards your whole body going to just your biceps! The potential is truly staggering. There are a number of other ways to specialize on your body as well. All of these types of Specialization and more are covered in this book. Many people have made incredible progress in unbelievably short periods of time with these programs. You can too! About the Author Nick Nilsson, ''The Mad Scientist'' of the fitness world, is a renowned personal trainer, body builder, and professional fitness writer who has written for Men's Fitness, Reps Magazine, Muscle & Fitness and hundreds of fitness websites all over the internet. Thorne Blackburn claimed to have magickal powers, to be able to tap into ancient wisdom. Others claimed he was a fake, cheating his many followers out of their money and destroying their free well. The truth may never be known . . . one dark, climactic night thirty years ago, Blackburn's most powerful ritual went horribly awry, leaving his flock shattered and one woman dead. Blackburn himself vanished. Now the scattered remains of Blackburn's followers have rallied around a new leader, the charismatic Justin Pilgrim. Hearing this, Thorne Blackburn's daughter, Truth, returns to the site of her mother's death and father's disappearance. Truth has many unanswered questions. Where are her long-lost half-siblings? Was her mother's death accident or murder? Is Pilgrim a charlatan, or are his claimed powers real? If he completes Thorn's ritual, will someone else die? The answers will lead Truth to deeply powerful truth of her own, one that will change her life forever. "He [Francis Bacon] writes of science like a Lord Chan cellor" - William Harvey "Don't say: 'There must be something common . . . ' - but look and see" Ludwig Wittgenstein In the history of western moral philosophy since Plato, there has been a pervasive tendency for the moral theorist to wri~e, in effect, like a scientist, Le. to seek completely general prin ciples of right conduct. Of late, moreover, there has been an attempt to set forth a theory underlying the general principles, not of right conduct, admittedly, but of justice. To be sure, we are sometimes warned that the principles (which must exist?) may be too complex to be formulated. Also they may not exist prior to action - nonetheless, we are told, they serve as guides to conduct! One inight argue that Baconian inductivism provides one basis for skepticism with respect to a number of familiar epistemological problems. Thus, the skeptic argues, a certain conclusion - say, the existence of another's pain - is not justified on the basis of (behavioral) evidence either deductively or inductively, and hence it is not justified at all. Similarly, I should claim, by establishing an unattainable standard, the search for exceptionless principles may become a source of moral skepticism. After all, when con fronted with a supposed principle designed to justify a particular ix x PREFACE action, one can generally imagine a counter-example to the prin ciple without excessive difficulty.
