A Harmony Of The Gospels For Students Of The Life Of Christ

A. T. Robertson's classic account of the New Testament Gospels arranges the chronology of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John side-by-side, that readers may compare and understand how each book recounts the life of Jesus Christ. A superb and classic arrangement of the Gospels, A. T. Robertson's effort was itself based upon the Gospel Harmony of John Albert Broadus, an American Baptist pastor famous for his Biblical scholarship in the 19th century. With Broadus' template to hand, Robertson sets about presenting the four Gospel books with an annotated clarity, that those interested in the Biblical narrative of Jesus may achieve superb insight. Passage by passage, verse by verse, Robertson works his way through the Gospel narrations. The birth, education, ministerial teachings, death and resurrection of Christ are examined sequentially. Robertson's chronicle is thorough, noting where the Gospels quote the Old Testament; we learn how each of the Gospel books differ yet complement one another in communicating Christ's message to all mankind. Readers will realize that the four Gospels depict episodes in the life of Christ differently from one another, particularly where Jesus' various parables and teachings are concerned. The finer details, such as those concerning Christ's birth and his sentencing to death by Pontius Pilate, are astutely observed. With Robertson's cogent and chronological narrative to hand, readers can better appreciate the phases of Jesus' life and the gravity of His deeds and sermons. This reprint offers the complete analysis, together with the lists and comparative phrases appended at the conclusion of the original edition, and the map of Palestine at the time of Christ. The introductory outlines are preserved, that the reader may swiftly conceive of the author's methodology. The ample page size allows for simpler referencing, while the individual passages, tables and their notes are arranged to conduce swift and gratifying comprehension of the Biblical lore of Jesus Christ.

Andrew Murray's book, With Christ in the School of Prayer, is a devotional and inspirational classic that has changed the lives of millions of believers. This life changing book will help you in your pursuit of spiritual growth as you follow hard after God. Listen to Murray himself: "Of all the promises connected with the command, ABIDE IN ME,' there is none higher, and none that sooner brings the confession, Not that I have already attained, or am already made perfect,' than this: If ye abide in me, ask whatsoever ye will, and it shall be done unto you.' Power with God is the highest attainment of the life of full abiding." "And of all the traits of a life LIKE CHRIST there is none higher and more glorious than conformity to Him in the work that now engages Him without ceasing in the Father's presence--His all-prevailing intercession. The more we abide in Him, and grow unto His likeness, will His priestly life work in us mightily, and our life become what His is, a life that ever pleads and prevails for men." "May God open our eyes to see what the holy ministry of intercession is to which, as His royal priesthood, we have been set apart. May He give us a large and strong heart to believe what mighty influence our prayers can exert. And may all fear as to our being able to fulfil our vocation vanish as we see Jesus, living ever to pray, living in us to pray, and standing surety for our prayer-life." “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” —Colossians 1:27 Why do we keep failing even in our best efforts to live the Christian life? Because no one other than Jesus Christ can live it, for the simple reason that He is the Christian life! And only He can live it in our lives as well. Major W. Ian Thomas takes a refreshing look at the pure thrill of living victoriously as you embrace the living Savior’s presence within you. The more you become genuinely and relentlessly available to Christ, the more He can take over so that your Christian walk becomes vibrant and effective! This inspiring devotional, along with the application questions at the end of each reading, will help you focus consistently on Jesus Himself so you can serve and enjoy Him at an entirely new level and dimension. You can try to steer clear of sin. Avoid temptation. Refuse to steal, lie, or use drugs and alcohol. You can indeed try to be sinless. But that is still you. And you are still trying. Jesus Christ was not holy because He focused His efforts on avoiding sin. Instead, “He refused to allow there to be any possible explanation for the quality of His life but the Father, as God, dwelling in Him, as Man,” writes Major W. Ian Thomas. So whom do you want dwelling in you? More of you? Or all of Christ? Story Behind the Book Major W. Ian Thomas was twelve years old when he accepted the Lord with a simple prayer. But by nineteen, “I had been reduced to spiritual exhaustion,” he says, “with no hope or reason for going on.” It was then that he discovered the life-transforming secret of the indwelling life of the living Lord Jesus Christ. God gave him a message through Galatians 2:20, where he learned to say, “Lord Jesus, I can’t—You never said I could—but You can, and always said You would. That is all I need to know.” Major Thomas came to understand it was Christ Himself living through him who would do His work. This is the message he has been passionately proclaiming all his life. Summa Theologica All Complete Unabridged 3 Parts Supplement Appendix Interactive Links And Annotations

Author : Thomas Aquinas
ISBN : 9788074842924

File Size : 83.7 MB
Format : PDF, Mobi

This carefully crafted ebook: "Summa Theologica (All Complete & Unabridged 3 Parts + Supplement & Appendix + interactive links and annotations)" is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. This ebook is the best-known work of Thomas Aquinas (c.1225–1274). Although unfinished, the Summa is "one of the classics of the history of philosophy and one of the most influential works of Western literature." It is intended as an instructional guide for moderate theologians, and a compendium of all of the main theological teachings of the Catholic Church. It presents the reasoning for almost all points of Christian theology in the West. The Summa Theologica is divided into three parts, and each of these three parts contains numerous subdivisions. Part 1 deals primarily with God and comprises discussions of 119 questions concerning the existence and nature of God, the Creation, angels, the work of the six days of Creation, the essence and nature of man, and divine government. Part 2 deals with man and includes discussions of 303 questions concerning the purpose of man, habits, types of law, vices and virtues, prudence and justice, fortitude and temperance, graces, and the religious versus the secular life. Part 3 deals with Christ and comprises discussions of 90 questions concerning the Incarnation, the Sacraments, and the Resurrection. Some editions of the Summa Theologica include a Supplement comprising discussions of an additional 99 questions concerning a wide variety of loosely related issues such as excommunication, indulgences, confession, marriage, purgatory, and the relations of the saints toward the damned. Scholars believe that Rainaldo da Piperno, a friend of Aquinas, probably gathered the material in this supplement from a work that Aquinas had completed before he began working on the Summa Theologica. It seeks to describe the relationship between God and man and to explain how man’s reconciliation with the Divine is made possible at all through Christ. To this end, Aquinas cites proofs for the existence of God and outlines the activities and nature of God. Approximately one-half of the Summa Theologica then examines the nature and purpose of man. Finally, Aquinas devotes his attention to the nature of Christ and the role of the Sacraments in effecting a bridge between God and man. Within these broad topical boundaries, though, Aquinas examines the nature of God and man in exquisite detail. His examination includes questions of how angels act on bodies, the union of body and soul, the cause and remedies of anger, cursing, and the comparison of one sin with another. Aquinas is attempting to offer a truly universal and rational view of all existence. Thomas Aquinas, O.P. (1225 – 1274), also Thomas of Aquin or Aquino, was an Italian Dominican priest, and an immensely influential philosopher and theologian in the tradition of scholasticism, within which he is also known as the "Doctor Angelicus", "Doctor Communis", and "Doctor Universalis". He was the foremost classical proponent of natural theology, and the father of Thomism. His influence on Western thought is considerable, and much of modern philosophy was conceived in development or refutation of his ideas, particularly in the areas of ethics, natural law, metaphysics, and political theory.

Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772-1834) was an English poet, literary critic and philosopher who, with his friend William Wordsworth, was a founder of the Romantic Movement in England and a member of the Lake Poets. He wrote the poems The Rime of the Ancient Mariner and Kubla Khan, as well as the major prose work Biographia Literaria. His critical work, especially on Shakespeare, was highly influential, and he helped introduce German idealist philosophy to English-speaking culture. He coined many familiar words and phrases, including suspension of disbelief. He was a major influence on Emerson, and American transcendentalism. Coleridge is one of the most important figures in English poetry. His poems directly and deeply influenced all the major poets of the age. He was known by his contemporaries as a meticulous craftsman who was more rigorous in his careful reworking of his poems than any other poet, and Southey and Wordsworth were dependent on his professional advice.

Between 1788 and early 1795 Blake published a series of fifteen Illuminated Books. He returned to creating Illuminated Books in 1804 when he began work on Milton (finished in 1808 or later) and Jerusalem. Blake committed himself in the minute particulars of producing his Illuminated Books. The process included creating a mental image, drawing, composing the design and poetry of the plate, engraving, printing, painting, compiling and selling. From inception to final production the color copy of Jerusalem was labored over for sixteen years. William Blake (1757 – 1827) was a British poet, painter, visionary mystic, and engraver, who illustrated and printed his own books. Blake proclaimed the supremacy of the imagination over the rationalism and materialism of the 18th-century. Largely unrecognised during his lifetime, Blake is now considered a seminal figure in the history of both the poetry and visual arts of the Romantic Age.

The title ‘the Son of Man’ evokes the different aspects of the whole Christ: the humanity and divinity of Christ, his earthly ministry, his sacramental presence, and the eschatological consummation of his work. It is also a term of relationship, suggestive of both the relations constitutive of the life of the Holy Trinity, and also of the way that our knowing and loving the Son of Man is always an invitation to communion - with the Triune God, as the Body of Christ, and for the life of the world. Contributors to this collection explore some of the many registers of the mystery of Christ, both historically and thematically. Contributors include some of today’s leading theological thinkers, including N.T. Wright, Rowan Williams, Lydia Schumacher, Kallistos Ware and Oliver O’Donovan. With poetic reflections from Malcolm Guite. Chapters include: "Son of Man and the New Creation" (N.T. Wright), "The Son of Man in the Gospel of John" (John Behr), "Sound and Silence in Augustine’s Christological Exegesis" (Carol Harrison), "According to the Flesh?: The Problem of Knowing Christ in Chalcedonian Perspective" (Ian Mcfarland), "Christ and the Moral Life" (Oliver O'Donovan), "Christ and the Poetic Imagination" (Malcolm Guite)

THE STORY OF JESUS: AN INTUITIVE ANTHOLOGY Many contemporary Christians suspect that there is more to Jesus and his enduring message than the little that has survived in historical writings and the legendary Christian tradition. This book offers a narrative account of Jesus' life from the perspective of twenty contemporary writers who have developed their natural intuitive abilities to an unusually high level. They are therefore able to bring forth new and detailed information not ordinarily accessible by historical or literary means. Some of them had demonstrated their unusual skill by probing deeply into the personal lives and minds of historical individuals other than Jesus, while some had provided important and detailed technical information which was then verified scientifically. They apply their intuitive skills here to uncover fresh information about the man Jesus, his contemporaries and his extensive teachings which never found their way into the New Testament Gospels and related historical documents. These new findings offer a much richer view of the man himself than that available from traditional Christian sources. They also provide illuminating insights and a deep spiritual understanding of Jesus' original and hidden teachings. The Story of Jesus is essential reading for all inquirers and seekers into these hidden and previously lost portions of Christian spiritual history.
