Everyone grieves differently. This is as it should be, but grieving is so intense that people often feel isolated and alone. Bluebirds on the Roof shows how we can support those who grieve and provide them with understanding and compassion. We don't know how to cope with the devastation of losing a loved one. Nobody does. So how do we deal with the impossible event that has changed our lives forever? This book is designed to be read one page at a time. When you are crying and lack the ability to concentrate, it can be difficult to read more than a few paragraphs in one sitting. Becoming a member of the "Club," learning to breathe, and realizing that there are others out there who truly care, are topics discussed that only those who are emotionally distraught may understand. The immense frustration of dealing with those who don't really comprehend your grief, religious contradictions, and feelings of despair are detailed. Honest stories of loss shared by others are incorporated into the book to show how the randomness of life and religious beliefs can seem to be in conflict with one another. These contradictions produce feelings that often overwhelm a person. Unbelievable, but not unusual. The frustration produced by this realization can be debilitating. The book's challenge is to offer ways to come back from all of this. Some of these personal stories are fairly graphic and intense. All are true. In some cases exact details are omitted to protect the people who shared these experiences for the book. Unfortunately, the author has extensive personal experience in being devastated by the loss of loved ones. His own story is included as an example of the challenges we must all face in order to understand what is important in life. The point is made that everyone has a different experience, copes differently, and must find a personal path forward. There is no loss that is "tougher" or more "special" than another. The circumstances of death do not matter. Grief has no rating system. Finally, there are a variety of strategies offered for people to begin to cope with the loss of a loved one. The choices abound, but the point is that people in mourning have to change with their new lives somehow, some way. The power to try is the power to succeed. Every attempt to try something new is a success. There are no failures. It is a habit that ultimately leads to a positive change in one's life! Bluebirds on the Roof reflects a personal transformation for a positive outcome from a tragic experience. There is something positive that can come from grieving - and we must all be motivated to search for it. The key to surviving in a positive way when one's life has changed is to change with it.

Astrid Lindgren, author of the famed Pippi Longstocking novels, is perhaps one of the most significant children's authors of the last half of the twentieth century. In this collection contributors consider films, music, and picturebooks relating to Lindgren, in addition to the author's reception internationally. A hilarious spoof on the classic country-house murder mystery, from the Russian masters of sci-fi—never before translated When Inspector Peter Glebsky arrives at the remote ski chalet on vacation, the last thing he intends to do is get involved in any police work. He’s there to ski, drink brandy, and loaf around in blissful solitude. But he hadn’t counted on the other vacationers, an eccentric bunch including a famous hypnotist, a physicist with a penchant for gymnastic feats, a sulky teenager of indeterminate gender, and the mysterious Mr. and Mrs. Moses. And as the chalet fills up, strange things start happening—things that seem to indicate the presence of another, unseen guest. Is there a ghost on the premises? A prankster? Something more sinister? And then an avalanche blocks the mountain pass, and they’re stuck. Which is just about when they find the corpse. Meaning that Glebksy’s vacation is over and he’s embarked on the most unusual investigation he’s ever been involved with. In fact, the further he looks into it, the more Glebsky realizes that the victim may not even be human. In this late novel from the legendary Russian sci-fi duo—here in its first-ever English translation—the Strugatskys gleefully upend the plot of many a Hercule Poirot mystery—and the result is much funnier, and much stranger, than anything Agatha Christie ever wrote.

'Once upon a time there was a nail named Neil. His biggest dream was to be hit on the head with a hammer. However, Neil's dream did not come true easily at all. Right after leaving the factory, an accident happened to him – he fell out of the cardboard box and spent many days lying on the road. From there, on one beautiful morning he got picked up by a car tire that was rolling by. After the owner of the car finally pulled Neil out of the tire using tongs, he threw him angrily far over his shoulder. Nail Neil fell on a sidewalk and lied there for several days until finally he got picked up by a technology guy Teet. The technology guy Teet took the nail Neil to his home. At home he threw Neil into an old metal box and put the box on the shelf in the cellar. Luckily Neil was not alone in the metal box. There already lived screws Steve and Sven, washers Walter and Warren, fat bolt Bruno and nuts Nina, Nana and Nelly.
