When I first had the thought for this book one of my reasons for writing it was so I could entitle it the "You do Know you Will Get Wet" tour, yeah sad I know but it made me smile. In the end this pithy title had to go because it was just too easy a target to hit. Everyone goes on about the rain in Ireland whilst missing the point that if it didn't rain so much it wouldn't be quite so bloody beautiful, and beautiful it is. In fact we toured the entire length of the Wild Atlantic Way and only got wet twice, and on neither occasion did it rain hard enough to get past our skin. Anyway if you are that bothered about the rain you wouldn't own a motorbike in the first place now would you? The other thing that has become something of a cliché is how friendly the people are. I can confirm that cliché is, in actual fact, true. Look if you want a book telling you where to go, what must see places you have to visit and a detailed itinerary for every minute of the day on your tour put this down now because this isn't the book for you. Sure there are places mentioned in here and it will explain how we filled each day of our tour around the coast of Ireland but that was our tour, yours should and will be different. One thing that will be the same though, unavoidable in fact, is that you will come home staggered by the sheer beauty of this Island and the welcome of its people. Oh yeah one final point, the pictures in here are printed in black and white (paperback edition, the kindle edition is in colour and has far more pictures) to keep the cost down for you. I mean why spend a fortune on a book just to get colour pictures when you are going to see them in the flesh? And you better go my mate or you will be missing out on one amazing road trip, seriously.

The Wild Atlantic Way is a driving route along Ireland's Atlantic seaboard, covering over 2,350km of coastline and showcasing the region's breathtaking landscapes. This guide adapts the route for cyclists - and throws in a couple of other highlights (such as the Aran Islands and Killarney) for good measure. Since relatively few people are likely to have seven weeks to spare for a full Wild Atlantic Way tour, the book presents six self-contained cycle tours, each offering 7-10 days of riding. For the full Wild Atlantic Way experience, these distinct routes can be linked together into a 44-stage trip from Derry/Londonderry to Cork. Each route includes detailed advice on accommodation and facilities, plus optional detours and shortcuts and points of interest. The routes themselves are presented as 'route cards': ideal for use with a cycle computer, these pages provide 'at a glance' information for when you're on the road, covering navigation, facilities and local highlights. The guide covers all the practicalities - including transport, equipment and general tips on cycling in Ireland.

Searching for the Ireland of his youth, James Kelly travels a section of the Wild Atlantic Way from Galway to Dingle by bicycle...with a teddy bear called Kieran. The aim of the trip was to see if the Ireland of James' childhood was still around, and more importantly, if the fabled warm Irish-welcome to strangers still exists. Their journey starts in Dublin then snakes along the gorgeous west coast of Ireland, taking in some wonderful sights on the way. Finally they end up in a bar in Tralee, dancing the night away. This book follows the misadventures they have on the journey. The people they meet, the places they visit, and their struggle with the Irish weather. There are many travel books, memoirs and novels about Ireland. But there's only one adventure with A Bear, A Bike And The Wild Atlantic Way.
