This enhanced eBook includes exclusive behind-the-scenes video of Dan Brown's INFERNO research trips throughout Italy, and a fascinating twenty-five minute video of his book launch presentation in New York City. With the publication of his groundbreaking novels The Da Vinci Code, The Lost Symbol, and Angels & Demons, Dan Brown has become an international bestselling sensation, seamlessly fusing codes, symbols, art, and history into riveting thrillers that have captivated hundreds of millions of readers around the world. Now, with this stunning special illustrated edition of his record-setting Inferno, brought to life by more than 200 breathtaking color images, Dan Brown takes readers deep into the heart of Italy . . . guiding them through a landscape that inspired one of history’s most ominous literary classics. “THE DARKEST PLACES IN HELL ARE RESERVED FOR THOSE WHO MAINTAIN THEIR NEUTRALITY IN TIMES OF MORAL CRISIS.” Harvard professor of symbology Robert Langdon awakens in a hospital in the middle of the night. Disoriented and suffering from a head wound, he recalls nothing of the last thirty-six hours, including how he got there . . . or the origin of the macabre object that his doctors discover hidden in his belongings. Langdon’s world soon erupts into chaos, and he finds himself on the run in Florence with a stoic young woman, Sienna Brooks, whose clever maneuvering saves his life. Langdon quickly realizes that he is in possession of a series of disturbing codes created by a brilliant scientist—a genius whose obsession with the end of the world is matched only by his passion for one of the most influential masterpieces ever written—Dante Alighieri’s dark epic poem The Inferno. Racing through such timeless locations as the Palazzo Vecchio, the Boboli Gardens, and the Duomo, Langdon and Brooks discover a network of hidden passageways and ancient secrets, as well as a terrifying new scientific paradigm that will be used either to vastly improve the quality of life on earth . . . or to devastate it. In his most riveting and thought-provoking novel to date, Dan Brown has raised the bar yet again. Inferno is a sumptuously entertaining read—a novel that will captivate readers with the beauty of classical Italian art, history, and literature . . . while also posing provocative questions about the role of cutting-edge science in our future.

Illustrations To Dante S Inferno

This volume is intended to fill a need long felt by teachers who, year after year, have their students read Dante's Inferno in world literature or Italian language courses. The student is fascinated by Dante's overpowering visual imagination, and illustrative material directly treating or at least influenced by the Inferno is often sought. However, such a search can be carried on with some comprehensiveness only in the largest libraries in America, and then often only in the rare book rooms of these libraries. In the three decades, in conjunction with the 700th anniversary of Dante's birth in 1265, several magnificent volumes dealing with illustrations to the Divine Comedy have been published. However, many of these are foreign-language editions rarely found on American library shelves. Additionally, such volumes are both expensive and specialized, covering specific time periods, such as the miniatures in the illuminated manuscripts of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, the earliest printed editions of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, or the illustrations of a single artist, such as Botticelli, Signorelli, or Blake. Illustrations to Dante's Inferno offers to a general readership, in a relatively compact and inexpensive format, a critical overview of illustrations to the Inferno from the age of Dante to modern times. Professor Nassar has selected more than 400 plates (many in color) for inclusion in this volume. His criteria for selection are those of a literary critic seeking fidelity to the tone and texture of a literary masterpiece, as is discussed in the introduction. He has organized the selections in a canto-by-canto format, which will prove convenient for both the teacher and student and will also allow for comparative studies. Also included are a select list of illustrated editions, a select bibliography, and a comprehensive index.

Hell of The Inferno by Dante Alighieri (1265-1321)Translated by Rev. Henry Francis Cary, M.A. (1772-1844) and illustrated with the seventy-five designs of Gustave Doré (1832-1883)."Inferno" (Italian for "Hell") is the first part of Dante Alighieri's 14th-century epic poem "Divine Comedy". It is followed by "Purgatorio" and "Paradiso". "The Inferno" tells the journey of Dante through Hell, guided by the ancient Roman poet Virgil. In the poem, Hell is depicted as nine concentric circles of torment located within the Earth. As an allegory, the "Divine Comedy" represents the journey of the soul toward God, with the Inferno describing the recognition and rejection of sin."The Divine Comedy" (Italian: Divina Commedia) is a long narrative poem, begun in 1308 and completed in 1320, a year before Dante's. The poem's imaginative vision of the afterlife is representative of the medieval world-view as it had developed in the Western Church by the 14th century. It is divided into three parts: Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso. It is widely considered to be the preeminent work in Italian literature and one of the greatest works of world literature.
