The Diary of a Desperate Naija Woman in the Year 2011 is collection of random blogs written by Bola Essien-Nelson giving the reader an insight into her daily life. It captures, in her own unique conversational manner, the soars and dips, the losses and the victories, the whoops of joy and the frustrated cries of defeat, and pain of an ordinary woman desperately chasing after her extraordinary God. Bola hopes that, as you read this book, the words you encounter will make you smile a little, laugh out loud a lot, and maybe even tear up on occasion as you realise that you are not alone and that many of lifes experiences are universal. She hopes that you will read and come to a deeper understanding of the incredibly intense love God has for you and that this realisation will birth a new hunger in your belly to chase after God and to do so desperately.
In this book East and West are united in a total vision which gives the reader an expansive view of inner lives and behaviors, some of which are healthy and some not. The author presents an analysis of contemporary social relationships and the attitudes associated with them. But he does far more than this. He also vividly describes the "primary" and "secondary" capabili ties of the psyche, capabilities that are valid for all times and all situations. Peseschkian draws on his experiences in the Middle Eastern homeland of his youth and also on the insights he has gained through his psychotherapeutic practice. He does not stop with special examples, but draws conclusions that are valid for people everywhere. He then molds these conclusions into an illustrative system. Uniquely interesting are the passages where the author describes errors in the development of a child and erroneous attitudes on the part of the educator, such as when he characterizes the punitive behavior of parents: "Right from the start a child must learn to obeYi" "There must be punishmenti" and "You have to break the child's wilL" Or when he shows how tensions between the parents are transferred to their children: "You're just like your father. He doesn't know what punctuality is either. " The author attempts to integrate his faith in psychotherapy with his vision of the world and also tries to understand the world's religions as an expression of their times.

Impoverished young Americans had no greater champion during the Depression than Eleanor Roosevelt. As First Lady, Mrs. Roosevelt used her newspaper columns and radio broadcasts to crusade for expanded federal aid to poor children and teens. She was the most visible spokesperson for the National Youth Administration, the New Deal's central agency for aiding needy youths, and she was adamant in insisting that federal aid to young people be administered without discrimination so that it reached blacks as well as whites, girls as well as boys. This activism made Mrs. Roosevelt a beloved figure among poor teens and children, who between 1933 and 1941 wrote her thousands of letters describing their problems and requesting her help. Dear Mrs. Roosevelt presents nearly 200 of these extraordinary documents to open a window into the lives of the Depression's youngest victims. In their own words, the letter writers confide what it was like to be needy and young during the worst economic crisis in American history. Revealing both the strengths and the limitations of New Deal liberalism, this book depicts an administration concerned and caring enough to elicit such moving appeals for help yet unable to respond in the very personal ways the letter writers hoped.
