By far the most fabulous school to be found! Perfectly planned and impeccably clean. On a scale, 1 to 10, it's more like 15! And learning is fun in a place that's fun, too. If Jack built a school, there would be hover desks and pop-up textbooks, skydiving wind tunnels and a trampoline basketball court in the gym, a robo-chef to serve lunch in the cafeteria, field trips to Mars, and a whole lot more. The inventive boy who described his ideal car and house in previous books is dreaming even bigger this time.

Building A House In Heaven

Charity is an economic act. This premise underlies a societal transformation—the merging of religious and capitalist impulses that Mona Atia calls “pious neoliberalism.” Though the phenomenon spans religious lines, Atia makes the connection between Islam and capitalism to examine the surprising relations between charity and the economy, the state, and religion in the transition from Mubarak-era Egypt. Mapping the landscape of charity and development in Egypt, Building a House in Heaven reveals the factors that changed the nature of Egyptian charitable practices—the state’s intervention in social care and religion, an Islamic revival, intensified economic pressures on the poor, and the subsequent emergence of the private sector as a critical actor in development. She shows how, when individuals from Egypt’s private sector felt it necessary to address poverty, they sought to make Islamic charities work as engines of development, a practice that changed the function of charity from distributing goods to empowering the poor. Drawing on interviews with key players, Atia explores the geography of Islamic charities through multiple neighborhoods, ideologies, sources of funding, projects, and wide social networks. Her work shifts between absorbing ethnographic stories of specific organizations and reflections on the patterns that appear across the sector. An enlightening look at the simultaneous neoliberalization of Islamic charity work and Islamization of neoliberal development, the book also offers an insightful analysis of the political and socioeconomic movements leading up to the uprisings that ended Mubarak’s rule and that amplified the importance of not only the Muslim Brotherhood but also the broader forces of Islamic piety and charity.

For years, a middle-aged, middle-of-the-road couple, Max and Amanda, had enjoyed each other's company in their modest home. With adult children, the two seemed to have everything they could want: health, some wealth and happiness. Until one day when they vanish, leaving behind no trace. Called in for the case, Detective Inspector George Hennessey, whose own life bespeaks horrible tragedy, automatically suspects foul play. His hunch proves a keen one when the bodies of the missing couple turn up in a shallow grave. But this macabre discovery is only the beginning of a case that will test the mettle of the entire police force. For one thing, no murderer would have killed them for their money since the couple had lost a small fortune right before their death. For another, the couple, apparently unbeknownst to the other, had been involved in illicit liaisons. For some reason, their only son has been acting strangely and to top these off, in the midst of the fracas a family secret arises. In search of a road to answers, Hennessey instead finds a maze littered with conflicting clues and misinformation. And instead of lacking any suspects at all, the detective finds there are all too many people who had wished the deceased couple harm. A compelling and grittily authentic novel from the author of the acclaimed P Division series.

The book ‘Sakthi Olhi’ is published as per the advice from the Divine Mother. She has said that, each house must have Sakthi Olhi. Wherever there is Sakthi Olhi, the Divine Mother is there, too. The readers of Sakthi Olhi get a chance to know the experiences of millions of devotees around the world. This magazine is published in Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada at the time of the writing of this book. In this book, titled ‘Our Bangaaru Amma – We Love You’, you will find the devotees’ experiences from Sakthi Olhi – January, 2002 to December, 2002 – translated into English. Mel Maruvathur Temple is situated in Kanchipuram district, almost ninety kilometres from Chennai, on the Chennai-Thiruchi National Highway. In Malsya Puranam, this place is referred to as ‘Siddhar Vanam’ (the forest, in which the siddhars dwell). On this soil, twenty one siddhars have attained jiva samadhi (liberation, or moksha). When we set our foot on this soil, we get the blessings of the Divine Mother Adi Parasakthi, our Adigalaar Amma, who is the incarnation of the Divine Mother, and all the siddhars, who have been living in this place. This universe has been created by the Divine Mother (God). Everything in this universe belongs to Her. Still, the Divine Mother has chosen Adigalaar Amma as Her Son. The Divine Mother says in Her oracle that, Adigalaar Amma has all the good qualities to be chosen as Her own Son. ‘Adigalaar’ is the name, which has been given to our Amma by the Divine Mother. The name ‘Adigalaar’ means one, who deserves the love and respect of all. She has repeatedly said that, She resides inside Adigalaar Amma. The body alone is that of Adigalaar Amma. His soul is Adi Parasakthi Herself. This oracle clearly makes us understand that God and our Adigalaar Amma aren’t separate. They are one. Amma is very simple in appearance. He is very merciful and kind-hearted. If we pray to Amma sincerely and faithfully, Amma helps us in different ways. It is the Divine Mother, who speaks to us through Adigalaar Amma. Hence, whatever our Amma says is an oracle from the Divine Mother. This is a fact proclaimed by the Divine Mother. Devotees come to see Amma from all around the globe. Everyone who comes to Amma with physical or mental problems, returns home with the consolation that Amma is there to take care of him or her, and that there is no need to worry anymore. Millions of people have had such experiences. Amma gives us innumerable chances to do service to the Divine Mother. Even a small service, which we do to God, brings us a great result.
