The hymn Ganesha sahasranama is found in the Ganesha purāna. It is taught to lord Shiva by lord Ganesha himself. The story is given in detail in poorvapeethika that when lord Shiva wanted to destroy the tripurāsura - the demon king with three flying cities, but could not succeed even after enormous efforts, lord Shiva meditated on Ganesha. Then Ganesa appeared before Shiva in his five faced form (panchamukha Ganesha) and initiated lord Shiva with this hymn. This thousand name hymn of ganesha ( ganesha sahasranama ) is one among the powerful hymns on lord Ganesha and it has great importance in the Gānāpatya tradition.Bhāskara rāya mākhin a great shākta scholar and devotee of the mother goddess, a scholar in Vedas, purānas and mantra shāstras had written a wonderful commentary on the hymn. The commentary is called khadyota (that which enlightens the sky) It is named so as it puts light on the deeper meanings of the names of this thousand names hymn (sahasranāma stotra) I have explained every name of this thousand names hymn based on the khadyota commentary and I have also quoted shlokas from the Vedas, purānas and tantras. Some names of the sahasranāma refer to various forms and incarnations of lord Ganesha. I have quoted the dhyāna shloka (verses describing forms of ganesha to be meditated on) of those forms from the tantra and āgama shāstras and also explained their meanings. The sahasranamavali (list of names from the sahasranama) starting with one and ending with namah (salutation) is also given for the perpose of chanting. the book has two indexes first index containing index of all names in the order in which it occurs in the hymn and the second index is alphabetical.

The Huns were first called the people of the Andronov culture, who reached the Baltic and reached as far as China. It was the Scandinavian sagas that allowed us to explore the history of this people, in the Russian Federation.

The book is devoted to upholding the author’s concept of the formation of the state of Russia from the tribes of the Wends who came from the Baltic States, and the autochthonous tribes of the North-Siverts of Sarmatian-Hunnic origin, who had already created a state called the Khazar or Russian Khaganate. The book proves that the Sivertsy northerners are part of the Huns who have always lived in this territory, and it was their language that became the basis of the Russian language.

Winner of the 2006 Gradiva Award A collection of new and previously-published essays that sheds light on the intersections between psychoanalysis and Indic Studies. While Indian academics and clinicians have been familiar with psychoanalysis for many decades, they have kept this Western model of the mind separate from the spiritual and philosophical traditions of their own country. Freud Along the Ganges bridges this important lacuna in psychoanalytic and Indic studies by creating a new theoretical field where human motives are approached not only psychoanalytically but also from the perspective of the teachings of Buddha, Tagore, Ghandi, and Salman Rushdie. The authors of this collection show how the insights of these Indian masters give a new force to the Freudian discovery by providing a basis to better understand the social and psychological Indian makeup. The book begins by questioning the applicability of the psychoanalytic method to non-Western cultures. It then traces the history of the psychoanalytic movement in India from its onset while it emphasizes the intricate overlap between Indian existential and mystical traditions and psychoanalysis. Freud Along the Ganges offers a unique study of the ways that Indian thought and psychoanalysis illuminate and enrich each other.

Excerpt: The Vishnusahasranama (Sanskrit, a tatpurusha compound translating literally to "the thousand names of Vishnu") is a list of 1,000 names (sahasranama) of Vishnu, one of the main forms of God in Hinduism and the personal supreme God for Vaishnavas (followers of Vishnu). It is also one of the most sacred and commonly chanted stotras in Hinduism. The Vishnusahasranama as found in the Shanti Parva of the Mahabharata is the most popular version of the 1,000 names of Vishnu. Another version exists in the Padma Purana and Matsya Purana. Each name eulogizes one of His countless great attributes. The Vishnusahasran ma has been the subject of numerous commentaries. Adi Shankaracharya wrote a definitive commentary on the sahasran ma in the 8th century, which is the oldest and has been particularly influential for many schools of Hinduism even today. Parasara Bhattar, a follower of Ramanujacharya wrote a commentary in the 12th century, detailing the names of Vishnu from a Vishishtadvaita perspective. Madhvacharya asserted that each name in the sahasranama has a minimum of 100 meanings. According to the 149th chapter of Anush sanaparva (verses 14 to 120) in the epic Mahabharata, the names were handed down to Yudhisthira by the famous warrior Bhishma who was on his death bed (of arrows) in the battlefield of Kurukshetra. Yudhisthira asks Bhishma the following questions: Bhisma answers by stating that mankind will be free from all sorrows by chanting the "Vishnusahasran ma," which are the thousand names of the all-pervading Supreme Being Vishnu, who is the master of all the worlds, the supreme light, the essence of the universe and who is...
