What happens when you lose your marriage, and then gain your ex's dad's trust? Kate Bergin, a married Manhattan attorney, was always attracted to aviation and learned to fly during her marriage, acquiring her pilot's license. Kate and her beloved father-in-law, Warren Ethan, a pilot who made millions in business, share a special bond over aviation, honor, and mutual respect. Kate's husband, Rick Ethan, the scion who's found a mistress, divorces Kate, even insisting that she resume her maiden name after more than twelve years of marriage. In her late 30s, Kate loses her husband, her home, and the life of wealth and privilege she's enjoyed as an "Ethan" and returns to her native Cape Cod to start all over. She hangs out a shingle, practicing law in a storefront in Hyannis and becomes an airline transport pilot working for Cape Air Charter. She settles into her new life as a single, small town lawyer working with her sister-like sidekick, Celeste, and flying the wealthy between the mainland and Nantucket and the Vineyard. One of Kate's passengers, Steven Philips, a private equity banker, sparks her romantic interest. Not long into this new life on Cape Cod, Kate is notified that her former father-in-law is dead and she's been named the executor and trustee of his estate worth a fortune. Kate is beckoned to L.A., where she is confronted by her ex, his new wife, and Warren's team of advisors. In probate court, Kate also meets Lyndsey, a woman who appears out of nowhere claiming to be Warren's biological daughter, demanding legitimacy and her filial share of Warren's estate. Kate strives to fulfill her role and marshal the millions to fund the trust Warren created, but encounters trouble from the start. Kate's new passenger/friend, Steven Philips-the banker that she's been flying to the Vineyard-helps her, to a point; but then it all goes terribly wrong. Can Kate set things right by employing her skills as a lawyer and an aviator, and accepting a little help from new friends? If Charitable Trust were a movie, its log line would be: Legally Blonde, meets Baby Boom (but instead of inheriting a toddler, the star inherits a fortune to fund a trust to help veterans--and then, trouble ensues), with a little Working Girl on the side (an homage to the relationship depicted between Melanie Griffith and Harrison Ford, via the relationship between Kate-the protagonist of Charitable Trust-and Steven, the private equity passenger).

In 1970 a scraggly, antiheroic young man from North Carolina by way of Massachusetts began presenting a comforting new sound, a kind never heard before. Within a year, when young ears sought a new sound, there was "Fire and Rain" and "You've Got a Friend," and a new Southern California-fed branch of pop music. Taylor was its reluctant leader. Remarkably, Taylor has survived: his 2015 release, Before This World, edged out Taylor Swift and went to #1 on the charts. Today he is in better physical and probably mental condition than during the whirlwind when he influenced music so heavily, the decade when magazines and newspapers printed feverish stories about his gawky hunkiness, his love affair with Joni Mitchell, his glittery marriage to Carly Simon, his endlessly carried-out heroin habit, and sometimes even his music. Despite it all, Taylor has become the nearest thing to rock royalty in America. Based on fresh interviews with musicians, producers, record company people, and music journalists, as well as previously published interviews, reviews, and profiles, Sweet Dreams and Flying Machines is the definitive biography of an elusive superstar.

'A magnetic and colourful portrait' Daily Telegraph Hugh 'Boom' Trenchard was embarrassed by being described as 'The Father of the Royal Air Force' - he thought others were more deserving. But the reality was that no man did more to establish the world's first independent air force and ensure its survival in the teeth of fierce opposition from both the Admiralty and the War Office. Born in Taunton in 1873, Trenchard struggled at school, not helped by the shame of his solicitor father's bankruptcy when he was sixteen. He failed entrance examinations to both the Royal Navy and the Army several times, eventually obtaining a commission through the 'back door' of the militia. After service in India, South Africa - where he was seriously wounded - and Nigeria, he found his destiny when he joined the fledgling Royal Flying Corps in 1912, where he was soon known as 'Boom' thanks to his stentorian voice. Quick to recognise the huge potential aircraft offered in future conflicts, he rose rapidly to command the RFC in France during the First World War despite handicaps that would have blighted conventional military careers: he was obstinate, tactless, inarticulate and chronically unable to remember names - yet he was able to inspire unflagging loyalty among all ranks. Despite his conspicuous distrust of politicians, he served as a successful Chief of the Air Staff for a decade after the war and then, at the personal request of the King, took over as Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, which he reorganised and reformed. He never wavered in his belief that mastery of the air could only be achieved by relentless offensive action, or in his determined advocacy of strategic bombing. His most enduring legacy was the creation of the finest air force in the world, engendered with the spirit that won the Battle of Britain.
