Theresa Dietz covers just about everything you need to know about the meaning and symbolism of flowers. Included in the book is an introduction that explains the meaning of flowers and how those meanings have become lost or confused over time. The reader will then learn how to use the book and what is important with flower reading, such as symbolic meanings, folklore and facts, color meaning, and possible powers of particular flowers or plants. Here and there, the author has sprinkled little poems or sayings that add much to the book. The middle section of the guide breaks down each flower in alphabetical order for ease of location, and assigns each flower a meaning and a fact. All the flowers are covered from A-Z, making this a terrific reference guide and companion for those who want to understand the symbolic meanings of various flowers, trees, and plants. Not only does Floriography Today provide meanings of flowers, it also includes a handy Plant Name Index so you can hop to each flower location with ease. As a reader, I was especially excited to learn about roses and their color meanings — red for beauty and love, yellow for friendship, and many others — and the folklore and traditions surrounding the rose. Any flower I could think of was in the guide, and I spent much time reading through and learning about plants and flowers. At the end, there is even an index for symbolic meanings, such as wishes, art, luck, beauty, desire, and love. S. Theresa Dietz has done meticulous research on this topic, and it shows. I would highly recommend the book to those seeking knowledge in the field of flowers, plants, and trees - brides, florists, gardeners and flower lovers!

Flowers can talk. Red roses say 'I love you'. White lilies offer condolence. Poppies invite us to remember. For thousands of years, humans have used flowers as a language, a short-hand for emotions and meanings. Ancient myths and legends are bursting with flowers and their symbolic meaning; Shakespeare scattered floral clues throughout his plays, knowing his medieval audience could decipher the code; the buttoned-up Victorians used 'floriography' or the secret language of flowers to convey forbidden feelings.Valentine's Day isn't complete without a bunch of red roses, mistletoe invites us to sneak a kiss, daises are the flower of childhood innocence, and daffodils speak of Easter and new life. Oxford University students still wear white carnations for their first exams, a red carnation for their final exam and pink in between. In her new book, Sally Coulthard, takes a fascinating look at floriography and shows how we still use this secret language, across the world, even today. She delves into the meanings of flowers and where they came from, whether it's ancient mythology or hedgerow folklore. She finds that many flowers get their meanings from subtle references to their medicinal or deadly properties, while others are linked to ancient rites or religious texts. Some flowers even get their meanings from sympathetic magic or their resemblance to human body parts or other common objects. Covering 50 well-loved flowers and plants, from peonies to sweetpeas, ivy to irises, Floriography is a beautifully illustrated book takes the reader on an intriguing journey across the world through the history, legend, anthropology and literature of flowers, and shows how modern-day society still holds many of ancient beliefs and customs of their ancestors. From the Chinese lotus flower to the Celtic bluebell, the myth, magic and language of flowers is still blossoming today.

Peribology seeks to discover the etymology of symbolism. If a gift is given in a distant future; and no one knows how to interpret the secret message, does the traditional meaning carry over subconsciously? Furthermore, does this symbolism unfold in the human experience in other ways? Peribology seeks to uncover secrets from bygone eras, and encourage those who are willing, to breathe life again into ye age-old, archaic Floriography. Peribology will set the stage for modern flower talk from these gathered sources and on-going research. Since scientific inquiry admonishes the old flower language, Peribology rationalizes meaning not on poetry, but on the natural effects nature's treasures have on the five senses and the human psyche. Daniel G. Harvey, a common man, becomes the forty-fifth president of the United States. Using the power of the truth, he returns control over government back to the people. Politicians declare his acts devastating but have no way to stop the change. Through it all, this outspoken nonpolitician swears his actions are right for the country . . . but is he correct? Chief Justice Brown leans in. “So you don’t contest that your actions have caused this Revolution?” Daniel slowed his words. “Sir, if you are asking, are we seeking a World Revolution—yes, I believe we are. The United States is in the midst of a Second Revolution. Today we carry the torch, but soon our actions will become the establishment for the rest of the world.” Chief Justice shouts, “Mr. Harvey, how can you be so sure?” Daniel laughs. “I suggest the establishment does not get in the people’s way.” This is a story about one man’s journey to make a difference. The Outcome delves deep into the philosophical role of government and tasks its readers to ask if Daniel’s actions can work in today’s United States. Written to spawn thought and debate, it further answers the question if people can be trusted to govern themselves.
