'The work of a prolific humorist at his best' Observer The Discworld is very much like our own - if our own were to consist of a flat planet balanced on the back of four elephants which stand on the back of a giant turtle, that is . . . ____________________ 'Sorry?' said Carrot. If it's just a thing, how can it commit murder? A sword is a thing' - he drew his own sword; it made an almost silken sound - 'and of course you can't blame a sword if someone thrust it at you, sir.' For Commander Vimes, Head of Ankh-Morpork City Watch, life consists of troubling times, linked together by...well, more troubling times. Right now, it’s the latter. There’s a werewolf with pre-lunar tension in the city, and a dwarf with attitude and a golem who’s begun to think for itself, but that’s just ordinary trouble. The real problem is more puzzling - people are being murdered, but there's no trace of anything alive having been at the crime scene. So Vimes not only has to find out whodunit, but howdunit too. He's not even sure what they dun. But soon as he knows what the questions are, he's going to want some answers. ____________________ The Discworld novels can be read in any order but Feet of Clay is the third book in the City Watch series.

Someone is killing Lord Vetinari, Patrician of Ankh- Morpork. No one knows who, no one knows why and, worst of all, no one knows how – he just gets weaker and weaker. But it’s not just Vetinari – across the city, people are being murdered, but there’s no trace of anything alive having been at the crime scene. Commander Vimes, Head of the City Watch, is a man who hates ‘clues’. He and his team must question everyone – the butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker. In a city teeming with vampires, werewolves, dwarfs with attitude and golems, Vimes must solve the crimes and save the Patrician. As all children know, the way you get into a fantasy world is by accident... You go into the wardrobe, looking for somewhere to hide and – bingo. And that’s how Stephen Briggs found Discworld. In 1990, he wrote to ask Terry if he could stage Wyrd Sisters. That was the first time anyone, anywhere in the world, had dramatised Terry’s work. He had no idea it would go any further than one play (possibly two). But it did. So far, he has now adapted, staged and published twenty-two plays. He and Terry also worked together to produce the original Discworld Maps and Diaries, Nanny Ogg's Cookbook, The Discworld Companion (now called Turtle RecallThe Wit & Wisdom of Discworld.

"Your Majesty looked, and there before you stood a large statue - an enormous, dazzling statue, awesome in appearance. The head of the statue was made of pure gold, its chest and arms of silver, its belly and thighs of bronze, its legs of iron, its feet partly of iron and partly of baked clay." -Daniel 2:31-33 (NIV). A popular Yoruba saying goes: "what is not good enough needs prayers, and what is good also needs prayers." Historically, democracy has been promoted and upheld as the best and most efficient form of government. Wars have been fought and hundreds of thousands of people have died, all in the name of protecting and defending democratic values. Despite these emphases on democratic principles, certain individuals throughout history, as well as in recent times, have taken advantage of democratic institutions and the collective social sentiments of the people, to create divisions, sow doubts and exploit weaknesses in society's fabric on their way to acquiring and consolidating power at any cost. The social issues presented in this book are meant to further the conversations surrounding how best to protect democracy and democratic values from external destructive influences. These external influences are analogous to the statue described in the second chapter of the Bible's book of Daniel, whose feet of clay symbolized its own fundamental weaknesses. From its head downwards, the quality of the statue's construction materials gradually reduced. Today's rampant social issues - racism, sexism, bigotry, intolerance, tribalism, etc. - all represent flaws and weaknesses in the fabric of democracy as we know it. Careful and deliberate conversations are necessary in order to carry out effective course-correction. Before it is too late.

The year is 2014. America is no longer the industrial or the military dynamo that it had previously been. Inside its own borders, minor disputes over national issues are accelerating beyond the comprehension and management of both the American public and among its political leaders. In the fog of distance, a phantom cargo ship drifts hauntingly alone on the Pacific Ocean. Its crew mysteriously murdered by someone... or something... thats too horrible to explain...too eerie to reveal its forbidden truth. Some six thousand miles away, covert activities and treasonous acts against the United States now send rippling consequences that will soon be felt throughout the entire world. America itself will not be left untouched, for it is this country that will now strain and struggle against itself as it attempts to elude the coming Armageddon that will inevitably test its willits spiritand even its founding principles, towards remaining the true leader of the free world. Yet, another era in history is quickly emerging. And with it a new nations leadership that truly believes that its time has come. Its iron-will belief system is so strong, that its success will ultimately come not from its own military might, but rather from an unraveling of the international stage towards a veiled co-existence. Against this background, a sinister plan for a nuclear holocaust has been conceived. Its chief architect is not a person of self-control, but rather a psychopathic madman intent on becoming the most powerful and feared individual of all time. His weapon of choice is neither guns nor direct threats, but rather the devils very own deception of coy innocence. Anarchy in America....Armageddons arrival.... Ascension of a Dark Horse nation the end of days....is about to begin.

Her personal life may be a mess. And no one said her family was sane. But as lead detective at Atlanta's Peachtree Investigations, hard-nosed, fast-talking PI Sunny Childs is always up for cracking a case. And now in Feet of Clay, her sixth mystery, Sunny is in thick. When her cousin Lee-Lee, a documentary filmmaker who's interviewing convicted murderer and rapist Dale Weedlow, invites Sunny along for the ride, Sunny knows her very presence will probably convince her flighty cousin that the sicko's been framed. But Sunny ends up going, and to her surprise, things are, indeed, not as they seem. Evidence of a cover-up looms behind the gentility of the local politics, business, and law enforcement, and as usual, Sunny finds herself deep into the original murder case. But with the locals closing their doors in her face and the time before the convict's execution running short, Sunny has to hurry if she's going to get to the bottom of the six-year-old murders of two girls whose feet had sunk deep into the Southern clay.
