This book describes the philosophy and the use of Aleister Crowley's Thoth Tarot, a deck of Tarot cards designed by Crowley and co-designed and painted by Lady Frieda Harris. The Thoth Tarot has become one of the best-selling and most popular Tarot Decks in the world. It is also one of the most original interpretations of the tarot, incorporating astrological, numerological, Egyptian, and Qabalistic symbolism. While there are many other useful guides to this famous tarot deck, there are no others that explain the deck in its designer's own words. The book is divided into four major parts: * Part One: The Theory Of The Tarot. * Part Two: The Atu (Keys or Trumps). * Part Three: The Court Cards. * Part Four: The Small Cards. Part One is further divided into three chapters; Part Two into two chapters and an appendix; Part Three into one chapter; and Part Four into one chapter. The book includes a list of plates depicting the Tarot cards as seen by Crowley and Harris.

I wrote this ebook because it’s very difficult to come across reliable information about the original tarot system of ancient Egypt. Most people aren’t even aware of it – they’re only exposed to the christianized Rider-Waite version that departs from natural principles the cards represent. To write this book I researched all the genuine ancient Egyptian tarot sources (provided at the end of the book) and designed cards in a way that would most accurately reflect the principles of nature. Thus, this book has not only information about universal principles that each card stands for, but also original illustrations of those principles. I researched not only ancient Egyptian card symbolism, but also constellations that each card represents, each sign, planet and number as it relates to this system. Also, I included information about how to read the cards, different spread methods, how to make sure the cards show the truth, in-depth explanation of the major arcana, playing cards and minor arcana correspondences, in-depth minor arcana explanation, and much more. I hope that this book will help you see universal principles in each tarot card so that these cards are no longer divorced from the rest of life but are its representations. This is what Egyptian tarot cards are designed to do, and by seeing them this way you will be able to get life lessons from each one of them, whether through making a spread or by simply drawing one card in the morning to start your day.

Hundreds of new Tarot decks have been produced in the late twentieth century, many of them based on the structure and images of Arthur Waite and artist Pamela Smith’s Rider-Waite deck (1910). The continuing popularity and influence of the Rider-Waite deck makes it a standard for identifying, categorizing and analyzing contemporary Tarot and other meditation decks. This work of art history analyzes such decks in relation to conventional art styles and movements, including Symbolism, Surrealism, the modernist “grid” and the low/high value hierarchy, and postmodern art movements and concepts such as the dissolution of the modernist value hierarchy, Pattern and Decoration art, and collage. It also examines them in relation to literary concepts, including the novel, utopias, and popular genres. The author’s analysis is supported by numerous illustrations, including the Rider-Waite major arcana cards juxtaposed with examples of their counterparts from more recent decks.
