A true story of mass murder and military aviation disaster—from the man who ended the active-shooter killing spree. On 20 June 1994, a disturbed airman killed his mental-health doctors before opening fire on the patrons and staff of an Air Force hospital. Four days later, a B-52 bomber crashed while performing air-show maneuvers, killing her crew and a pilot who was known for his reckless flying. Two fatal tragedies that occurred suddenly... but not without warning. As a young military policeman, Andy Brown saved countless lives when he confronted a rampaging gunman and put and end to his murderous shooting spree. Brown was hailed as a hero, but was haunted by the lives he was unable to save. While attempting to make sense of the tragedies, the former criminal investigator discovered that numerous people had recognized the signs of impending violence and disaster and attempted to intervene. This compelling narrative gives a voice to the ordinary men and women who witnessed the extraordinary tragedies unfold and reveals the leadership culture that allowed two men to travel unchecked on a path toward destruction. With cinematic clarity and the pacing of a suspense novel, Warnings Unheeded delivers an unprecedented look inside the mind of a would-be killer. It shares tales from aviators who were forced to fly with a dangerous pilot. It tells the story of courageous bystanders who became life-saving first responders, victims who fought for survival, and survivors who fought for answers, accountability and change. Part true crime, criminal biography, historical narrative and military memoir, Brown offers a candid insight into how he prepared for the deadly gunfight only to discover he was ill-prepared for the hidden cost of becoming a "hero". Find out why people are saying Warnings Unheeded is the best nonfiction book they've read in years. Read this page-turning true story of mental illness, mass murder, and military aviation disaster. "A highly readable book ... from a unique source. Recommended for a wide audience." —Ron Franscell, Best Selling True-Crime Author of Delivered From Evil and The Darkest Night "In vivid and thoroughly researched detail, Andy Brown masterfully weaves two tragic stories ... this is an important and well-written read." —Gregory K. Stand Your Ground

Author : Caroline Light
ISBN : 9780807064665
Genre : History
File Size : 88.73 MB
Format : PDF, ePub, Docs

Despite inevitable questions about gun control, there is a sharp increase in firearm sales in the wake of every mass shooting. Yet, this kind of DIY-security activism predates the contemporary gun rights movement -- and even the stand-your-ground self-defense laws adopted in thirty-three states, or the thirteen million civilians currently licensed to carry concealed firearms. As scholar Caroline Light proves, support for "good guys with guns" relies on the entrenched belief that certain "bad guys with guns" threaten us all. This book explores the development of the American right to self-defense and reveals how the original "duty to retreat" from threat was transformed into a selective right to kill. Light traces white America's attachment to racialized, lethal self-defense by unearthing its complex legal and social histories -- from the original "castle laws" of the 1600s, which gave white men the right to protect their homes, to the brutal lynching of "criminal" Black bodies during the Jim Crow era and the radicalization of the NRA as it transitioned from a sporting organization to one of our country's most powerful lobbying forces.

Concealed Carry Bible A Complete Self Defense Guide A to Z There are too many books about self-defense and handguns, I know. I see them and read a few of them. But one thing I noticed lacking is how a gun can protect you in a self-defense situation. Most experts tell you what guns to buy, how to train with them, how to load them and how to shot them, but is that all you need to know? How do you find out when the time comes you will be able to pull the trigger? When I teach people about self-defense, I teach them about the ins and outs of handguns that are popular, how they work and what and how to fix common issues. But I hope that is not why you would read this book, I want to prepare you mentally, and physically and I want you to know all the laws that may affect you along with making you a master of concealed carry where you are comfortable, confident and will know when and how to use it if the time ever comes. I never thought my education and training would be put to test until one fateful day when I found myself in the middle of a gang related shoot out situation where I did have to draw my gun and use it. Let's just say I was little faster. That situation taught me a lot about the legal system and the abuse that goes on in the government everyday basis. But the important thing is I survived through it, and it made me a better person both as a human being and as an instructor who teaches self-defense through concealed carry. Regardless what you hear about declining crime rate, just remember the world population is growing at a much faster rate than the resources we survive on. When this happens you can imagine, more people will fight over the same resources than before. It won't surprise me if there will be a day when it will be "survival of the fittest" law meaning who has more strength, and power will win and have access to the resources. I am not trying to scare you; we are not there yet, it may never happen, but what if it does? Should we be ready? I believe we do. So if you can learn some basic self-defense handgun skills and learn to protect yourself and your family, it won't be such a bad thing would it? I tell my students, 97% of the people who carry guns will never have to use them on anyone, but it is there in case they ever need it. In my opinion, there is no harm in learning a new skill, specialty, if that skill can save lives. In This Book I Show You: The 50 State Laws for Concealed Carry Concealed carry and Ethics of Violence History of Concealed Carry in the USA What do you need to get ready for concealed carry How to Pick the Right Gun & Ammo Revolver Vs. This book concisely summarizes concealed-carry licensing laws and restrictions and legal concepts related to self-defense, such as stand your ground, the castle doctrine, use of deadly force, and the no-retreat rule. The book brings attention to the complex and differing concealed-carry and self-defense laws of various states and pertinent federal laws and what is required for compliance. Finally, this book is about the preservation of gun freedom and the individual right to self-defense as recognized by the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and recent U.S. Supreme Court decisions. A case is made for a national Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act that will enable universal concealed carry for self-defense in all 50 states.

The Ethics Of Self Defense

Genre : Double effect (Ethics)
File Size : 32.76 MB
Format : PDF, Docs

The fifteen new essays collected in this volume address questions concerning the ethics of self-defense, most centrally when and to what extent the use of defensive force, especially lethal force, can be justified. Scholarly interest in this topic reflects public concern stemming from controversial cases of the use of force by police, and military force exercised in the name of defending against transnational terrorism. The contributors pay special attention to determining when a threat is liable to defensive harm, though doubts about this emphasis are also raised. The legitimacy of so-called "stand your ground" policies and laws is also addressed. This volume will be of great interest to readers in moral, political, and legal philosophy.
