The second group was told to eat in line with the DASH diet. Like the first group, they were to consume high proportions of vegetables and fruits. Group two had high magnesium, potassium, calcium, and fiber content. Their diet consisted mainly of whole grains, fish, nuts, and, of course, fruits and veggies. The third group was the control of the experiment. Group 3 was to follow the typical U.S. diet. This diet was rich in protein and fat but low in fiber, magnesium, calcium, and potassium.
