Effective Positive Behavioral Support Systems (PBSS) consist of three interdependent components: (a) teaching students prosocial interpersonal, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills, using an evidence-based social skills program; (b) teacher, grade-level, and building-wide accountability processes that provide students meaningful incentives and consequences that motivate their prosocial behavior; and (c) staff and administrative consistency such that student behavior is reinforced and responded to (when inappropriate) in a constant fashion. Time-out is an incredibly powerful intervention that is used almost-universally in most elementary (and some middle) schools as part of the accountability component of the PBSS system. Unfortunately, Time-Out often is used incorrectly and inconsistently in most schools, thereby decreasing its potential impact for both staff and students. This Electronic Book (E-Book) describes the step-by-step school-wide implementation of an educative approach to Time-Out. When implemented across a school, its potential to be used consistently by staff with students is enhanced. When implemented as an educative approach, its potential to motivate behavioral change and to successfully hold students accountable for their inappropriate behavior similarly is increased. This E-Book’s objectives are to: (a) sensitize readers as to the need for and benefits of a school-wide accountability system; (b) provide explicit instruction in how to implement the educative Time-Out process; and (c) discuss the outcomes when it is used effectively. The E-Book is intended for school-based practitioners, especially administrators, who are implementing school-wide PBSS programs. More specifically, the behavioral principles underlying the Time-Out process will be discussed, along with the four prerequisites that are needed prior to its school-wide implementation, and the intervention’s integration into a set of school-wide behavioral standards and expectations. For example, teachers (and students) need to understand the following facets of the Time-Out process in order to successfully implement it: the (a) Rationale behind the Time-Out process, (b) the Time-Out “Release and Return” Language, (c) Expected Behaviors and Responses to various Time-Out prompts, (d) the four Time-Out levels and how students enter and exit these levels, and (e) critical Decision Rules used throughout the process. Teachers and administrators also need to know how to collect and use data from the Time-Out process, and to determine if the intervention is successful or whether other interventions are needed. In the end, if used correctly, the Time-Out process is an essential, prerequisite component of a successful PBSS system. Furthermore, non-banks and near-banks have to be considered in this respect, too, as these entities' business models are increasingly targeting customers of universal banks. On the demand side, changing customer behavior has accelerated transformation processes in recent years. An increased willingness to change suppliers can be noticed as consumers are placing more and more importance on price. A strong price awareness is changing market conditions in many business sectors in Germany. Decreasing customer loyalty forces universal banks to push sales activities and to intensify their personal relationship with the customer. The main objectives of this dissertation are the following: Work out a strategy within today s typical structure as a universal bank. Identify key success factors and evaluate this strategy for its chances for success. Derive the consequences for the future business model of a cooperative bank. Determine the change steps necessary to strengthen the competitiveness. Furthermore, the prerequisites of such a change process will have to be worked out. An inductive approach was chosen to achieve the aims of this thesis (Gill & Johnson). Firstly, an in-depth analysis of existing literature was carried out in order to gain an overview on current developments such as a) customer behaviour, and b) the competitive situation of the financial services sector. The results were to produce not only an explanation for current trends but also allow the prediction of future trends over the course of the next years. The environment in which cooperative banks are operating was described in detail. This approach provides a good basis to identify the relevant factors and to work out the necessary consequences for cooperative banks. In order to examine possible conclusions, interviews with 12 experts in the field were conducted. This report presents a description of the patterns of change in rural women's reproductive behaviour in South Africa over a period of 17 years extending from 1987-9 to 2004. The analyses were informed by the Programme of Action that was set out at the 1994 International Cairo Conference on Population and Development. The Programme of Action has a 20-year implementation time period, and the year 2004 was halfway through the 20 years. The year 2004 is also 30 years since the introduction of South Africa's National Family Planning Programme in 1975, which advanced the health rationale for fertility regulation. It is also twenty years after the introduction of the Population Development Programme in 1985, which emphasized the demographic rationale for fertility regulation. It is finally the seventh year after the introduction of the Choice on Termination of Pregnancy Act in 1997, which legalized pregnancy terminations under prescribed conditions, with emphasis on women's rights to choice. Five of South Africa's nine provinces, which have more than 50 per cent of their populations living in tribal areas, were included in the analyses.
