Do you constantly feel anxious? Do you have panic attacks that make you feel as though you are about to lose control? You are not alone. In fact, anxiety disorders are among the most common mental health conditions faced by our society. Perhaps you’ve tried therapy or medication and have not found any real, lasting relief for your symptoms. So where do you go from here? Calming the Rush of Panic will introduce you to the practices of mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR)—a proven-effective meditational method developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn—as a way to work through episodes of panic. After an informative introduction to MBSR, you will be guided through a number of exploratory practices and meditations to transform your panic into peace." Each chapter in the book contains informational background on the topic, guided meditations, and up to 10 practices that let you put the information and skills you will learn into action. The book promotes mindfulness-based practices and exercises to help you deal with the physical, emotional, and mental effects of panic, and inside you will learn foundational MBSR meditation practices, including mindful breathing, sitting meditation, and loving-kindness meditation. If your fear response is out of sync with the situations you find yourself in, this book will show you that your thoughts are just thoughts—they are just one part of you. If you have anxiety or suffer from panic attacks, little things like driving, being at a party where you don’t know anyone, or even going to the grocery store can seem overwhelming. But these little things are a part of everyday life, and if you try to avoid them, you may end up feeling alienated, lonely, and unfulfilled. Furthermore, simply avoiding anxiety-causing situations will not help you to conquer your anxiety. If anything, it can make it worse! So how can you take control of your anxiety symptoms, once and for all? In The Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Workbook for Anxiety, three mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) experts provide mindfulness meditations and exercises to help sooth anxiety, understand common triggers, and live more fully in the moment. Developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, MBSR is a powerful, evidence-based treatment model that fuses mindfulness meditation and yoga, and has been proven effective in treating a wide range of chronic disorders and diseases. The mindfulness practices in MBSR help you to cultivate a greater awareness of the connection between your body and mind, and can help you identify and move past the toxic thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that lie at the root of your anxiety. If you are ready to take the first step toward managing your fears, anxiety, and worry, this book can help show you the way.

If you struggle with intense irritability or angry outbursts, you may feel like your reactions are beyond your control. But this simply isn’t true—you, and only you, have the power to change your life. You just need to be shown the way. In Daily Meditations for Calming Your Angry Mind, Brantley details three different paths—or approaches—based in mindfulness and meditative perspectives, that you can choose from to take control of your anger, and your life. First, you’ll learn to disengage from your anger by pausing to be mindful when anger is happening. Second, you’ll discover ways to cool your anger using meditative practices to nurture kindness and compassion towards yourself and others. And third, you’ll find tips for practicing mindfulness to transform your understanding and realize your anger is not an identity, a defect, or a permanent condition. Five Good Minutes In Your Body

Format : PDF, ePub

Five Good Minutes in Your Body offers simple yet effective activities to help us restore and recharge our relationships with our bodies. With these tools we can create a life that is more fulfilling-a life in which we are no longer at the mercy of the stress of our day. The practices can transform the mundane into the extraordinary, and renew our sense of vitality and passion for life. Learning to be mindful of our bodies can be hard in this fast-paced, stressful world. Some of us live from the neck up, forgetting to nourish and appreciate-or even be comfortable in-our bodies. In the western world we often live nearly entirely in the mind. Through mindful practices, this book will help bring us back into our bodies and help us reduce stress, breathe again, and actually enjoy our bodies. We're also incredibly self-critical of our bodies. Who among us hasn't wished they were just a little skinnier, more muscular, taller, had a narrower foot, darker hair, lighter eyes... the list of our inadequacies is endless. We are very self-critical of our bodies and often have distorted perceptions of ourselves. We needlessly compare ourselves to some unattainable-and airbrushed-ideal. This often leads to feeling cut off from our bodies and, ultimately, disembodied. We then end up making unhealthy choices, such as eating foods that don't make us feel good, drinking too much, or even over-exercising, all in an effort to try to feel better about ourselves.

This novel starts with a prologue dealing with the mythology surrounding the development of two different species of mankind: the group of people designated as Homo Sapiens and the much smaller subtype know as Cro-Magnon Man. The action starts immediately with the two groups clashing and then differentiating into the development of civilizations populated by Homo Sapiens but mentored by Cro-Magnon known as the Coruscus. As the adventure develops other themes come into play. “The capacity of the Coruscus to influence the whims of nature has been characterized by numerous titles, the most common of which is known as magic.” Magic is the undercurrent of this action adventure but there are more themes which become sophisticated in both concept and presentation. For example, the idea of life beyond death is explored. There are detailed description of Virgil’s journey into the realms of life beyond this physical plane. There are also metaphysical themes running through this novel with detailed descriptions of chakra meditations as necessary preparations for Virgil to enter into the realms beyond the first plane of physical life. The dark side of human nature is explored but mostly in the context of an adventure story about the Coruscus known as Virgil and his warrior companion known as Glaiden. The story describes how their relationship was developed and how their efforts to evade the overwhelming Roman forces of the rouge Coruscus known as Baracore. When evasion is no longer an option, battles ensue.

In the 1930's lighthouse keeping was dangerous and mundane, a way of life and isolation from life. Estonia was thriving and backward, unique and powerless. Women were submissive and yet the impetus for all things. And marriage was mandatory. But romantic love was the sweetest and most unlikely twist of fate. Paula is a woman I knew in my childhood. She was an Estonian immigrant. She was a mail-order bride. Her husband was an Estonian-American, a lighthouse keeper, a wife beater and maybe a pedophile. Paula, an educated woman in Estonia, came to this country not knowing the language or culture and was kept a virtual prisoner for more than a decade at a string of lighthouses on the rugged Alaskan coast. Paula was a woman who's life, while dictated by tradition, was full of excitement and adventure and characterized by passion and courage. And while at times there seems no end to the misery she endured, a love story unfolds. Come along on this true journey inside real lighthouse living and one woman's life.
