The young man from Hibbing released Highway 61 Revisited in 1965, and the rest, as they say, is history. Or is it? From his roots in Hibbing, to his rise as a cultural icon in New York, to his prominence on the worldwide stage, Colleen J. Sheehy and Thomas Swiss bring together the most eminent Dylan scholars at work today--as well as people from such farreaching fields as labor history, African American studies, and Japanese studies--to assess Dylan's career, influences, and his global impact on music and culture.

La Cort D Amor

ISBN : 9781351197823
Genre : Literary Criticism
File Size : 86.73 MB
Format : PDF, Kindle

"The ""Cort d'Amor"" is a late 12th-century allegorical romance in Occitan which fuses a variety of lyric and narrative genres together and which predates the ""Roman de la Rose"" by some 50 years. In this edition, Matthew Bardell highlights the work's intertextuality with Andreas Capellanus' ""De Amore"" to show how the Occitan work presents a dialogue between gendered approaches to love whilst parodying the exegetical tradition. It juxtaposes lyric passages with some of the standard Ovidian teaching on love and undermines the reader's attempts to distinguish between the two. This volume has a facing English translation and aims to make an important contribution to the study of medieval allegory and courtly love in general, as well as to the dissemination of Ovid in the Middle Ages and the narrative transformations of Old French and Occitan lyric."

The Villas Of Pliny From Antiquity To Posterity

Author : Pierre de la Ruffinière du Prey
ISBN : 0226173003
Genre : Architecture
File Size : 51.56 MB
Format : PDF, Mobi
Download : 760
Read : 1268

Pierre de la Ruffinière du Prey traces the influence of Pliny the Younger as a continuous theme throughout the history of architecture. First he looks at what Pliny considered to be the essential qualities of a villa. He then discusses the many buildings Pliny inspired: from the Renaissance estates of the Medici, to papal summer residences near Rome, to Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, and the home of former Canadian prime minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau. Equally important to du Prey's study are the many designs by architects past and present that remain on paper. These imaginary restitutions of Pliny's villas, each representative of its own epoch, trace in microcosm the evolution of the classical tradition in domestic architecture. In analyzing each project, du Prey illuminates the work of such great masters as Michelozzo, Raphael, Palladio, and Schinkel, as well as such well-known modern architects as Léon Krier, Jean-Pierre Adam, and Thomas Gordon Smith.
