What lurks in the shadows...? A haunting novel of love, loss... and flesh-eating trolls, from the undisputed master of the macabre, Richard Laymon. Perfect for fans of Dean Koontz and Clive Barker. 'One of the eeriest, and one of the most immediate, horror novels of recent decades' - Publishers Weekly Everything changed for Ed that day in the fall semester when he got a letter from Holly, the girl he loved: 'Dear Ed,' it began, 'I will always cherish the times we had...' Holly was in love with someone else. It was as if his whole world had changed in a second. That night, heartbroken and half mad with despair, Ed couldn't sleep, so he decided to go for a walk. But it's a dark, scary night in the lonesome October, and Ed is not alone... There are others out there in the night, roaming the streets, lurking in the darkness - wanting to show Ed just how different his world could be. Some of them are enticing, like the beautiful girl who wants to teach Ed about the wonders of the night. Some are disturbing and threatening. Some are deadly... and in search of prey. What readers are saying about Night in the Lonesome October: 'This book is fantastic! It had me gripped from beginning to end! The storyline was superb, with twists and turns that keep you captivated' 'This is an absolutely astounding book. This displays a natural talent at his best. The way Laymon writes is ingenious' 'The best thing about this novel was its atmosphere - the feeling of being out on empty streets and the nefarious things that may be lurking in the corners of any suburban town'

Getting rid of an article of trash can be difficult, there never seems to be any rubbish bins around when you need one. However this is a simple chore compared to the frustration and complexity of disposing a friend’s dead body. "I Didn’t Mean to Kill My Best Friend" is a novella about two friends and their quest to dispose of a mutual friend’s body. Throughout the night, the duo is faced with various obstacles that prevent them from accomplishing their goal. "I Didn’t Mean to Kill My Best Friend" is a comedic, entertaining look at the difficulties associated with this grim task. *Featured ebook at the San Diego Comic-Con 2012 Word count: 12,172 - Professionally formatted and edited. What people are saying about this book: Rebecca Hurst (5 out of 5) - U.K. Brilliantly funny! A wonderful debut, sharp and witty with a distinctly fresh writing style and new approach to the genre. This novella, 'I didn't mean to kill my best friend' is an intelligent investigation of the relationship of two friends, and uses the murder of their mutual friend to explore how little things about your friendship can lead to the stickiest of ends! What I loved most about this book was the visual elements, and I could very well imagine it as a manga, illustrated novel and film. ------------ Defaye (5 out of 5) - U.K. Exciting, Funny, Thrilling. A really entertaining short story. Read it in one session and was glued to it. If you like a bit of a thrill, the plot is bang on. The story revolves around two friends trying to ditch their murdered, mutual friend. Coupled along the way with satirical humour and moments of suspense. Can already imagine a film adaptation. ------------ Sheila Deeth (4 out of 5) - U.S. Grim, humorous, odd and a fun short tale. Two Steves make the beginning of this short story a little confusing, but the confusion's part of the tale so it has to be excused. The characters aren't particularly pleasing, but their dilemma evokes memories of comedy movies and there's an enjoyable inevitability to their inept efforts to both salve their consciences and get rid of the best friend / worst enemy's body. While the conclusion is bounded by odd coincidence it has a certain logic of its own, preset by the story's direction. And there are some cleverly amusing discussions on the nature of life, death and relationships. The author has a nice touch with dialog and a casual off-beat humor. And the first person narration, mixing present tense thoughts with action in past tense, works surprisingly well. Short, definitely not sweet, but entertaining in a grimly satirical way.

Stages of Conflict brings together an array of dramatic texts, tracing the intersection of theater and social and political life in the Americas over the past five centuries. Historical pieces from the sixteenth century to the present highlight the encounter between indigenous tradition and colonialism, while contributions from modern playwrights such as Virgilio Pinero, Jose Triana, and Denise Stolkos take on the tumultuous political and social upheavals of the past century. The editors have added critical commentary on the origins of each play, affording scholars and students of theater, performance studies, and Latin American studies the opportunity to view the history of a continent through its rich and diverse theatrical traditions.--from publisher's statement.

A compelling psychological thriller that probes the darkest compulsions of the human mind. Dr. Stanley Kolberg was not just murdered. His lifeless body was battered and broken almost beyond recognition, as though his unknown killer had been driven by a ferocious rage that had exploded madly out of control. As far as the Seattle police are concerned, there is no shortage of suspects. A distinguished psychiatrist, Kolberg specialized in anger management and often treated violent offenders with severe psychiatric disorders. His client list is a virtual lineup of sociopaths, psychotics, and convicted murderers, any one of whom might have unleashed their homicidal fury on the doctor. For Dr. Joel Ashman, who consults as a profiler for Seattle Homicide, the shocking crime strikes particularly close to home. Not only was the victim a fellow psychiatrist, but Kolberg was also his former partner and mentor--he was practically a second father to Joel, who soon finds himself the target of a faceless stalker as well. Who killed Stanley Kolberg and why? The answers lie hidden in a lurid underworld of depraved sex and violence--and in the tortured past of one disturbed young woman.
