From the Introduction of After the Trip: This book is unique, as it intertwines the mundane and the mystical. Through the practice of journaling, I provide a narrative depiction of my daily life while discussing various topics related to personal growth. Some of these topics include my thoughts on spirituality, the psychedelic experience, maintaining a high level of happiness, achieving goals, and living a fulfilling life. In hopes of communicating authentically, I share some of my most private thoughts on reality and our place in the cosmos. My first psychedelic experience, at only eighteen years of age, had a profound effect on me. So much so that I felt it was necessary to delve deeper into my consciousness through a succession of high-dose trips. Of course, there were positive and negative consequences to this course of action. My life was a roller coaster of blissful states of non-duality and nightmares I now wish could be erased from my memory entirely. When I was twenty-three, I decided to begin writing about these experiences and the events surrounding them in my book Lysergic. Three years down the road, I embarked upon the first edition of After the Trip as a follow-up to Lysergic. It's not necessary to have read Lysergic prior to reading this book. However, if you do, you'll likely have a better understanding of some of the subjects I discuss - particularly those relating to the Pickard-Skinner LSD bust. In this second edition of After the Trip, I continue my daily journal. I share my perspective on reality as a thirty-two year old to demonstrate how my worldview is developing directly as it occurs. To my knowledge, this is the only book in existence where such an endeavor is being attempted. I hope you find what I've learned and what I'm in the process of learning to be helpful to you. After all, we're the same loving oneness at our deepest and innermost level. There's no separation. No you, no me. Just Being. Well, that's what I experienced anyway... Atomic Bomb Cinema

Author : Jerome Franklin Shapiro
ISBN : 0415936608
Genre : Performing Arts
File Size : 68.2 MB
Format : PDF, ePub

Unfathomably merciless and powerful, the atomic bomb has left its indelible mark on film. In Atomic Bomb Cinema, Jerome F. Shapiro unearths the unspoken legacy of the bombing of Nagasaki and Hiroshima and its complex aftermath in American and Japanese cinema. According to Shapiro, a "Bomb film" is never simply an exercise in ideology or paranoia. He examines hundreds of films like Godzilla, Dr. Strangelove, and The Terminator as a body of work held together by ancient narrative and symbolic traditions that extol survival under devastating conditions. Drawing extensively on both English-language and Japanese-language sources, Shapiro argues that such films not only grapple with our nuclear anxieties, but also offer signs of hope that humanity is capable of repairing a damaged and divided world.

HauptbeschreibungField trips are a popular method for introducing students to concepts, ideas, and experiences that cannot be provided in a classroom environment. This is particularly true for trans-disciplinary areas of teaching and learning, such as science or environmental education. While field trips are generally viewed by educators as beneficial to teaching and learning, and by students as a cherished alternative to classroom instruction, educational research paints a more complex picture. At a time when school systems demand proof of the educational value of field trips, large gaps ofte.

Over 10 million adults in the United States have chronic problems with dizziness and imbalance - vestibular problems. This compares to 400,000 with multiple sclerosis or 1.5 million with autism for example, both chronic illnesses with much greater name recognition. Vestibular problems are difficult to diagnose and treat. While vestibular problems come with various medical names (Meniere's, Perilymph Fistula, Endolymphatic Hydrops, Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV), Mal de Debarquement (MdDS), and others) they present a common challenge for the affected person on how to deal with the dizziness and eventually find balance. Finding Balance addresses over a decade of illness, from the initial two years searching for a diagnosis, through the long years of treatment and finally to the period of rebuilding a life within the confines of what dizziness and vertigo will allow. Finding Balance provides a detailed description of symptoms, what can trigger them, the emotional reactions to symptoms, how to recognize their subtle differences, and how to track them in order to contribute to your own diagnosis. It also emphasizes the patient's responsibility for healing and eventually how to find the inner balance in life that will be necessary to equitably live with these symptoms over time. And it provides a sense of time, of patience. Special Features of Finding Balance Include: Call-out boxes presenting facts and tips for dealing with the disorder All of the medical information in the book has been reviewed by vestibular specialists for accuracy Bulleted lists at the end of chapter with advice to the reader on next steps

Examines the backpacking trip usually taken by Israeli youth following military service. In the period after their military service, Jewish Israeli youth customarily embark on a unique touristic practice: the backpacking trip. Combining sociological, anthropological, and psychological research—based on innovative fieldwork conducted with Israeli backpackers in Israel and abroad—this book depicts the complex relationship between the traveling youth and their society of origin. Via a perspective the editors term “outside-in,” we learn how social and cultural tensions and tenets, identities, fantasies, and preoccupations are acted out within a symbolic, touristic space by scores of Israeli youth. Chaim Noy teaches in the Department of Communication at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Erik Cohen is George S. Wise Professor Emeritus of Sociology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and is the author of many books, including Contemporary Tourism: Diversity and Change.
