Led by the Office of Economic Opportunity, Lyndon Johnson's War on Poverty reflected the president's belief that, just as the civil rights movement and federal law tore down legalized segregation, progressive government and grassroots activism could eradicate poverty in the United States. Yet few have attempted to evaluate the relationship between the OEO and the freedom struggles of the 1960s. Focusing on the unique situation presented by Texas, Freedom Is Not Enough examines how the War on Poverty manifested itself in a state marked by racial division and diversity—and by endemic poverty. Though the War on Poverty did not eradicate destitution in the United States, the history of the effort provides a unique window to examine the politics of race and social justice in the 1960s. William S. Clayson traces the rise and fall of postwar liberalism in the Lone Star State against a backdrop of dissent among Chicano militants and black nationalists who rejected Johnson's brand of liberalism. The conservative backlash that followed is another result of the dramatic political shifts revealed in the history of the OEO, completing this study of a unique facet in Texas's historical identity.

This is a complete, comprehensive Texas Hold'em book. It is far, far more analytical of the subtleties of a specific form of Poker, Texas Hold'em than the usual poker books. It doesn't just claim you can win at poker, it provides the skills needed to dominate the game. Any table, any opponent. Pros don't play with a game plan, they understand the game better than amateurs. Reading this book is like playing 500,000 hands of Texas Hold'em because it explains it all. Well worth the investment at ten times the price. Read and profit from it. NOTE: There was a card corruption in the latest version with the new custom cards (the ones with skulls) in the PDF starting at page 60ish. It did not raise alarms when uploaded. I'm sorry Google didn't catch it and neither did I. If you paid for a pdf book with corrupted cards please show me your receipt and I will personally send you one with the old cards until I can get the latest SNAFU corrected. The current PDF has the old cards. You can get the epub version, which works on lean pub but for some reason Google won't approve, elsewhere... NOTE2: I resolved the problem no help from Google. The current version has correct cards. ISBN: 9780993819704

Format : PDF, Docs

A Texas Destiny, The Saga Begins is the prequel to Joe Bax’s award winning reconstruction-era epic, The General and Monaville, Texas. The intoxicating notion of free land draws characters to Texas during the early period of Stephen F. Austin’s colony, including the family of young Leander Wilhite. When a yellow fever epidemic takes his family, Leander finds himself the owner of over six thousand acres of cotton-growing land. The responsibility matures him beyond his years. The community of Monaville looks to Leander for leadership. He becomes a ranger, chasing Comanches and attempting to protect his neighbors. With the fall of the Alamo, his company joins Sam Houston at San Jacinto. Later, Leander and his community become embroiled in the National debate over slavery issues. The birth of his mulatto son intensifies long-strained friendships and the American Civil War heats to a boiling point. A Texas Destiny, The Saga Begins dusts off old tales that have long since been dropped from the history books. It follows the beloved characters the General, the Colonel, Momma Mae and Blue, and reveals what made them the individuals that they had become. Fictional and historical figures are imaginatively intertwined as Austin, Houston, Bowie, Rose, Zuber, the notorious Pamela Mann, and the entire cast play out their parts on a giant stage called Texas.

They ride to the frontier town of Natchitoches, Louisiana, where Michael falls in love with Marie Villaret, daughter of a wealthy French landowner, then cross the Sabine to find Stephen F.
