Your Life in Christ introduces high school students to the essential message of Christian moral teaching--love of God and love of neighbor. Against this backdrop, students encounter and explore Catholic teaching that applies the mandate to love in real-life scenarios and situations. In a culture where moral relativism increasingly blurs distinctions between right and wrong, students quickly see that this subject couldn't be more relevant. Students consider and study such topics as conscience formation, law, Jesus as a moral guide, sin and forgiveness, respect for life, and sexuality.

Your Life in Christ: Foundations of Catholic Morality focuses on the essential message of Christ's moral teaching, the importance of love of God and love of neighbor and presents it in a way that is clear and applicable to the lives of today's teenagers. In doing so, this text accomplishes a formidable task -- to teach Catholic morality In a contemporary culture where religious indifference is at an all-time high, where human rights are violated in many places, and where there is a rise of "ethical relativism" which diminishes any fixed moral reference point to guide political and social life.Your Life in Christ: Foundations of Catholic Morality covers the major points of the "Life in Christ" section of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. In doing so, it pulls together these elements by developing nine essential steps for living a Christian moral life in the Catholic tradition. These steps are: 1. Act like o human; be who you are. 2. Use your intellect; search out the facts. 3. Look to objective truths to guide your freedom. 4. Imitate Jesus, friend and savior. 5. Form, inform, and follow your conscience. 6. Repent and seek forgiveness. 7. Love God above all. 8. Love yourself. 9. Love your neighbor. In its ten chapters. Your Life in Christ: Foundations of Catholic Morality includes several common features; introductory material with biblical quotes, topic outlines, exercises, several margin discussion questions, moral coses, hero profiles, summary statements, review questions, vocabulary lists, and prayer reflections. The sequence of the book helps to introduce the full scape of Catholic morality.

The Christian life is an imitation of Christ's response to God - a religious response to God's initiative. We are called to make al responses - religion and morality - acts of adoring worship and praise. This sacramental theology is the fundamental moral theology of Bernard Häring, CSsR, whose contributions as a twentieth-century theologian have prepared the way of renewal in Catholic theology today. Part One of this book introduces Bernard Häring and his place in the history of Roman Catholic moral theology. Part Two examines the central concepts of Häring's sacramental-moral theology: responsibility, Christ as Word of God and High Priest, the human person as word and worshiper, and the sacraments as dialogue and response. In Part III the author illustrates how Häring takes a minor category - the virtue of religion - and places it at the center of moral life. Chapters under Part I: Bernard Häring and Roman Catholic Moral Theologyare Reassessing Bernard Häring's Moral Theology, - and "Moral Theology and Sacramental Practice. - Chapters under Part II: The Dogmatic Foundations of Häring's Sacramental-Moral Theologyare *Word and Response: The Theological Foundations of the Religious-Moral Life, - and *Sacraments as Word and Response. - Chapters under Part III: The Christian Moral Life and the Virtue of Religionare *The Theological and Moral Virtues and the Virtue of Religion, - and *The Interior and Exterior Acts of the Virtue of Religion. - Chapters under the Conclusion are *Bernard Häring and Contemporary Proposals in Liturgy and Ethics: Critique and Contributions. - Kathleen A. (© 2010) The Subcommittee on the Catechism, United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, has found that this catechetical high school text is in conformity with the Catechism of the Catholic Church and fulfills the requirements of Core Course V of the Doctrinal Elements of a Curriculum Framework for the Development of Catechetical Materials for Young People of High School Age.Meeting Jesus in the Sacraments reveals the sacraments as the definitive way that Jesus remains present to the Church and the world today. The text explores concrete ways for students to understand the sacraments, participate in their rites, and benefit from their graces. The text is organized around the traditional definition of sacrament from the Catechism of the Catholic Church--an efficacious sign of grace, instituted by Christ and entrusted to the Church, by which divine life is dispensed to us by the work of the Holy Spirit. This definition is clarified by organizing the chapters around four dimensions of the sacrament: memorial, celebration, communion, and transformation.Through regular placement of "For Reflection" panels and assignments that focus on deeper research, developing a personal and communal prayer life, and active transformation of self and society, this text allows students to come to know Jesus through participation in the sacraments and the grace of their effects. Selections from Catholic blogs and profiles of saints offer a practical application of the sacrament to teenagers.

The Ten Commandments: Case Studies in Catholic Morality is a single source that summarizes Catholic teaching around the Ten Commandments. Thirty case studies related to real-life issues and dilemmas addressed by each commandment make up the heart of this text and remind students of the central importance of the Ten Commandments as a source for moral decision-making along with contemporary ways the Commandments can be applied in their own lives. The text addresses both every day issues of morality faced by teens, such as cheating on exams, using alcohol and drugs, sex before marriage—along with wider and new societal issues including the use of embryonic stem cells for medical research, responsibility for environmental problems, and the proper use of money. The Ten Commandments: Case Studies in Catholic Morality is intended as an ancillary resource for students to accompany their study of Catholic morality. The text is a helpful partner to any theology class to help students review current applications of the Ten Commandments. The book is also applicable as a resource for teens participating in a high school youth ministry program.

Sharing In Christ S Virtues

The encyclical Veritatis splendor (The Splendor of Truth) represents the first document of the magisterium devoted to the foundations of the Catholic moral life. Though it was intended to confront a genuine crisis of moral disintegration and to offer positive directions for carrying out the work of renewing moral theology, it was fiercely criticized by theologians who regarded it as a simplistic and "repressive" document. Now, several years after the publication of the encyclical, Livio Melina offers an original contribution not only to the study of Veritatis splendor and the controversy surrounding it, but also to the field of moral theology as a whole. In Sharing in Christ's Virtues, Melina proposes a blueprint for organizing moral theology, one that is in harmony with the directions given in Veritatis splendor and one that likewise respects the requirements of both the "theological" and the "scientific" character of the discipline. He describes it as a "Christocentricism of the virtues," which understands the moral life of Christians as a participation in the virtues of Christ by means of the grace of one's ecclesial incorporation in Christ. Melina argues that the renewal of moral theology should result in, first, a search for a more integral and dynamic understanding of human action, and second, a theological "re-dimensioning" of morality to better comprehend the synergy between human action and God's action. The contents of the book are: Part One: Toward a Christocentrism of the Virtues: Lines of Renewal 1. Between Crisis and Renewal: The Cultural and Theological Context of Morality Today 2. An Ethics of the Good Life and of Virtue 3. An Ethics Founded on the Truth About the Good of the Person 4. A Morality of Faith: The Salvific Relevance of Moral Action 5. A Christocentric Ethics of the Virtues Part Two: Ecclesial Sense and Moral Life: Perspectives and Developments 6. Ecclesial Dimensions of Moral Theology 7. The Call to Holiness in the Catechism of the Catholic Church: The Morality and Spirituality of "Life in Christ" 8. Moral Conscience and Communio: Toward a Response to the Challenge of Ethical Pluralism Livio Melina is professor of moral theology at the John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family at the Lateran University in Rome. In addition to numerous articles, he has written and coauthored several books, including La conoscenza morale. "Melina's thought-provoking and powerful presentation of key themes in moral theology will be welcomed by English readers.... One comes away with an understanding and appreciation of the basis of Christian morality for the twenty-first century. The excellent bibliography lists authors from Aristotle to John Paul II, many not well known in the English literature on moral theology. . . . Melina's work is timely. ..."--Catholic Library World
