A practical guide to stop searching for meaning by creating meaning from within • Explains how we can only discover who we are by naming what we want to be and taking steps to make it a reality • Offers simple evidence-based methods to generate enthusiasm, creativity, and direct spiritual experience and to co-create with the natural world as our ancestors did • Presents 11 core principles for living life from within, such as how to take full responsibility for motivation and effort, express gratitude, and focus your intention Everyone wants to experience purpose and inspiration in their lives, but the search for meaning often leaves a seeker in the hands of fate. Offering a different approach to self-discovery, one where we create our meaning from within rather than seek it from the outside world, Julie Tallard Johnson shows there is a science behind personal spiritual experiences and creativity. She reveals simple evidence-based methods that can be applied to any situation to generate enthusiasm, inspiration, and direct spiritual experience and transform the inner and outer landscapes of your life. Drawing from the Heart Sutra, the I Ching, indigenous wisdom, and the teachings of the Dalai Lama, Joseph Campbell, and the Kadampa master Atisha, Johnson outlines a practice centered on what she calls the Zero Point Agreement--the realization that you are the zero point of your life, that life’s purpose comes from within. She explains how to discover who you truly are by naming what you want to be and taking steps to make it a reality. Providing 11 core principles for the Zero Point Agreement as well as thought exercises, meditations, and journaling practices, Johnson shows how to break free from negative habitual states, liberate yourself from your attachment to the behaviors of others, take full responsibility for motivation and effort, express gratitude, focus your intention, and learn to co-create with the natural world. She also explores how to transform repressed material and how to apply the Zero Point Agreement to heal both personal and global relationships. Revealing how we can tap in to the creative, creational power that lies within and around each of us, Johnson offers a spiritual technology for self-illumination, creative restructuring of your life, and manifestation of your life’s purpose.

Stellar Candles For The Extragalactic Distance Scale

Author : Danielle Alloin
ISBN : 3540201289
Genre : Science
File Size : 78.2 MB
Format : PDF

This volume reviews the current status with respect to both theory and observation of the extragalactic distance scale. A sufficient accuracy is required both for a precise determination of the cosmological parameters and also in order to achieve a better understanding of physical processes in extragalactic systems. The "standard candles", used to set up the extragalactic distance scale, reviewed in this book include cepheid variables, RR Lyrae variables, novae, Type Ia and Type II supernovae as well as globular clusters and planetary nebulae.

An up-to-date, comprehensive guide to LITHIUM CHEMISTRY Although lithium has been the subject of numerous individual studies, this intriguing element has rarely been examined from the broad perspective many researchers require. Lithium Chemistry: A Theoretical and Experimental Overview fills this void by providing the most thorough and up-to-date overview available of current theories and experimental data. Supported by nearly two hundred illustrations, this book draws upon the expertise of prominent researchers in the field, and treats the full range of modern applications and techniques. The result is a unique and invaluable guide to lithium studies for researchers and graduate students working in the fields of organic, inorganic, and organo-metallic chemistry. Lithium Chemistry: A Theoretical and Experimental Overview assumes a background in quantum chemistry and experimental physical chemistry at the graduate level and includes coverage of these major topics: * Bonding, structures, and energies in organolithium compounds * Theoretical studies of aggregates of lithium compounds * Comparison of lithium and hydrogen bonds * Lithium atom matrix reactions with small molecules * NMR of organolithium compounds * Aspects of the thermochemistry of lithium compounds * The structure of lithiated amines and lithiated ethers--from carbanions to carbenoids * Complexes of inorganic lithium salts * Structures of lithium salts of heteroatom compounds * Synthetic ionophores for lithium ions

—Reliable though a tax may be Supporting elderly, poor and helpless, Cruises, yet, Alaska bound Are set for Acapulco gold and eggs Of fish to hatch another heaven Lying in and to the sun exposing Windows of dirt in religion, race And politics way behind the norm, The ship is now a harbor.— I would think there is a way around ourselves. But where is it? My advice is to study the answer. But what is the nature of the answer? I see the multiplicity of questions is unique to each individual. My conclusion has been that the question and the answer are one divinity. Divinity is everywhere. The question may be how do we not forget? Here in these slices of awareness, I have sought, in some way, on some level to remind.

The Casimir Effect

In its simplest manifestation, the Casimir effect is a quantum force of attraction between two parallel uncharged conducting plates. More generally, it refers to the interaction — which may be either attractive or repulsive — between material bodies due to quantum fluctuations in whatever fields are relevant. It is a local version of the van der Waals force between molecules. Its sweep ranges from perhaps its being the origin of the cosmological constant to its being responsible for the confinement of quarks. This monograph develops the theory of such forces, based primarily on physically transparent Green's function techniques, and makes applications from quarks to the cosmos, as well as observable consequences in condensed matter systems. It is aimed at graduate students and researchers in theoretical physics, quantum field theory, and applied mathematics. It is appealing also in its unified approach, based mainly on Green's function methods that Milton and others developed in collaboration with Julian Schwinger.”Physics Today “Milton's monograph provides an outstanding review of the present state of the theory and applications of Casmir effects to diverse problems … Because of its clarity and advanced treatment, this book will likely stimulate the next stage in that development by opening a number of impenetrable fields to advanced students.”American Journal of Physics “This carefully written book gives a survey of the experimental and theoretical situation concerning the Casimir effect … All technical points are presented clearly and thoroughly. The book belongs on the shelf of anyone who wishes to make practical calculations involving the Casimir effect. The book contains an extensive bibliography. There are occasional historical notes as well. A graduate student or researcher would gain a good perspective of the role of the Casimir effect in physics from a reading.”Mathematical Reviews “Milton also tries to survey the field while emphasizing the Green's function technique in concrete calculations. In the past decades, he contributed in so many ways to our present understanding of the effect that the book more or less recounts his personal journey through the Casimir world.”Zentralblatt MATH

In this Fifth Edition of their best-selling Social Statistics for a Diverse Society, Chava Frankfort-Nachmias and Anna Leon-Guerrero use straightforward, conversational prose and emphasize common sense as they demonstrate the link between the practice of statistics and important social issues. The book helps students learn key sociological concepts through real research examples related to the dynamic relationship between race, class, gender, and other social variables. An emphasis on SPSS (version 16.0) throughout the book, in conjunction with General Social Survey data, introduces students to one of the most commonly used analytical software packages. Each chapter ends with a demonstration of a related SPSS procedure, along with a set of useful exercises to help students practice what they learn.

For the experienced amateur astronomer who is wondering if there is something useful, valuable, and permanent that can be done with his or her observational skills, the answer is, “Yes, there is!” This is THE book for the amateur astronomer who is ready to take the next step in his or her astronomical journey. Till now there has been no text that points curious amateur astronomers to the research possibilities open to them. At the 2006 meeting of the Society for Astronomical Sciences, participants agreed that the lack of such a text was a serious gap in the astronomical book market. This book plugs that hole.
