It was a tank battle exceeded in size and significance only by the famous defeat of Germany’s Panzer force near Kursk in 1943. And yet, little is known about this weeklong clash of more than two thousand Soviet and German tanks in a stretch of northwestern Ukraine that came to be known as the “bloody triangle.” This book offers the first in-depth account of this critical battle, which began on 24 June 1941, just two days into Operation Barbarossa, Hitler's invasion of the Soviet Union. Author Victor Kamenir describes the forces arrayed against each other across that eighteen-hundred-square-mile-triangle in northwestern Ukraine. Providing detailed orders of battle for both Wehrmacht and Red Army Forces and contrasting the strengths and weaknesses of the Soviet and German tanks, he shows how the Germans slowly and decisively overwhelmed the Russians, apparently opening the way to Moscow and the ultimate defeat of the Soviet Union. And yet, as Kamenir’s account makes clear, even at this early stage of the Russo-German war the Soviets were able to slow down and even halt the Nazi juggernaut. Finally, the handful of days gained by the Red Army did prove to have been decisive when the Wehrmacht attack stalled at the gates of Moscow in the dead of winter, foreshadowing the end for the Germans.

An inspirational, fictional novel based on actual events. For generations the Barker family legacy had been one of unity and an unparalleled sense of pride in their heritage. Living the 'black experience' served to motivate them to achieve, in spite of the stigma placed on African Americans in a society plagued with unfounded prejudices. Education, hard work and 'family mentorship' had elevated them from Alabama sharecrop farmers at the turn of the century, to upper middle class Educators, Medical professionals, Brick-mason contractors and Administrative Managers. To be a 'Barker' was to hold your head up high, take pride in who you are, accept your responsibilities, set goals and work to attain them. The thought of a 'Barker' shirking or abandoning their responsibilities, was the unthinkable! Deidre' was an African American beauty of Jamaican descent. She was dark complexioned with long hair as coarse as hemp rope and as black as ebony. Her round full face displayed a pert nose and keen lips with the expression of an impish cherub as her right eyebrow lifted slightly when she laughed. Beautiful dreamy eyes reflected a piercing honesty as she looked directly into the eyes of anyone that she talked to. At fourteen, she was mature beyond her years, physically and mentally. Dwayne Jr., Deidre's younger brother by sixteen months, was over five feet ten inches tall and weighed 170 pounds. He was a beautiful 'Black Adonis' with an enchanting smile displaying perfect white teeth. Deidre' was only nine years old when she and Dwayne Jr. were taken to Alabama by their father for a six week 'visit' with a sixty-six year old Great Aunt, whom they had never met. They had never known their Mother and the only positive maternal influence in their lives had been their Paternal Grandmother. Their disappointment when their father did not return for them was manifested by erratic behavior and confusion. The many attempts by their Grandmother to gain custody and return them to their home State of Ohio was met with many obstacles. Their Faith in God and the belief that all things are possible through 'him' gave them the strength to persevere during five years of untold adverse experiences.

In just four weeks in the summer of 1941 the German Wehrmacht wrought unprecedented destruction on four Soviet armies, conquering central Ukraine and killing or capturing three quarters of a million men. This was the Battle of Kiev - one of the largest and most decisive battles of World War II and, for Hitler and Stalin, a battle of crucial importance. In this book, David Stahel charts the battle's dramatic course and aftermath, uncovering the irreplaceable losses suffered by Germany's 'panzer groups' despite their battlefield gains, and the implications of these losses for the German war effort. He illuminates the inner workings of the German army as well as the experiences of ordinary soldiers, showing that with the Russian winter looming and Soviet resistance still unbroken, victory came at huge cost and confirmed the turning point in Germany's war in the East.

In 1804, Liverpool was the largest slave trading port in Great Britain, yet her influential traders felt threatened by the success, in Parliament, of the anti-slavery movement. Few in Liverpool condemned the ‘Trade’. William King, son of a Liverpool slave trader, sickened by what he experienced aboard a Spanish slaver, was one of the few who did speak out.??Triangle Trade, set during the dying days of this despicable business, has generational change, moral wickedness, greed, romance, and the fortunes of war woven through the lives of a father and son caught up in the turmoil that preceded the implementation of the British Trade Act of 1807, which would end Britain’s involvement in the slave trade. Nineteenth century Liverpool is revived; a city of political conflict and dynamic change, mirrored in its inhabitants.??As seen on
